UWM's Global Studies program combines the benefits of a liberal arts education with the training of a professional program to prepare students to work internationally or domestically on matters that cross borders and cultures. The College of Letters and Science and several of UWM's professional schools have formed a partnership to offer students this unique program of study that will prepare them for positions of global leadership in our increasingly interconnected world.

At UWM, Global Studies is a rigorous degree program incorporating classes across disciplines, including an extensive foreign language requirement. This challenging and rewarding program prepares students to excel in a job market that demands knowledge across subject areas and a culturally sensitive approach. The analytical, communication, cultural knowledge and language skills acquired through the Global Studies degree will serve students well in any area of work.

Global Studies students choose from one of five tracks:

• Global Communications - with a focus on language, culture and the technology of modern, global communication (option for a joint degree between the College of Letters and Science and the School of Information Studies)
• Global Management - focusing on business and the world economy (joint degree between the College of Letters and Science and the Sheldon B. Lubar School of Business)
• Global Security - dealing with aspects of conflict and change such as water resources, war, human rights, borders, and global health
• Global Sustainability - where students develop expertise in matters of the environment and government systems
• Global Health - a track for students interested in global careers in healthcare, international aid, healthcare policy, international health education, health outreach, and international health regulations (option for a joint degree between the College of Letters and Science and the College of Nursing)

The Bachelor of Science in Data Science (BSDS) program is a special degree program that blends courses from both the College of Letters & Science and the College of Engineering & Applied Science. It is a structured curriculum offering courses from both statistics and computer science, in addition to electives from other departments and colleges.

The job outlook for individuals with data science degrees is extremely favorable. A student with combined skills in statistical analysis and computer programming is likely to be in high demand on the job market.

Our program is highly technical in nature yet still retains elements of a classic liberal arts degree. Students take courses in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences as part of the general education requirements, in addition to mandatory courses on the ethical implications of data science and on writing and communication. A broad world view of cultures, history, and society leads to better decision-making in scientific careers, and strong communication skills make graduates even more attractive in the job market.

Religious studies is an interdisciplinary major that draws on courses from multiple departments to give students a broad understanding of the historical, cultural and philosophical principles of the world's religions, including Buddhism, Christianity, Classical Greek and Roman religions, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, African and Native-American religions. These diverse belief systems are studied not just for their influence over past generations but also to better understand their role in modern issues.

Religious Studies is not just for students planning to go on to become a priest, rabbi or minister. The program provides excellent preparation for all careers that require critical thinking, logic, analysis and writing skills. Because of the breadth of the subject matter, students graduate with a global perspective, an appreciation for different viewpoints and substantive knowledge about ethics and core belief systems of the past and present.

The Master of Science in Engineering program is a flexible program designed to meet the needs of a wide variety of students. The program can be a stepping-stone on the way to further studies and the pursuit of advanced research, such as can be obtained by pursuing the PhD. Or the program can provide a pathway to professional advancement through greater technical knowledge and intellectual maturity. The student, with the help and approval of a major advisor, can choose from a wide range of courses from throughout the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS), and where appropriate, from other schools and colleges.

The Computer Engineering major is offered through the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science departments at UWM. Computer engineering pertains to the design, implementation and maintenance of hardware and software components of computers and computer-controlled equipment.

Our program provides students with a broad and strong technical background in the field. It also helps students develop a solid grounding in computing, mathematics and engineering. Students will learn to apply these theoretical principles to design hardware, software, networks, and computerized equipment for diverse application domains.

The Peck School of the Arts’ Kenilworth Square East (KSE) Gallery provides a year-round schedule of exhibitions, with galleries that are housed in the Kenilworth Square East building, a research facility approximately one mile from campus. The Department of Art and Design offers a schedule of workshops and special lectures each year. In addition, graduate student studios are located in the Kenilworth Square East building.

The Department of History offers MA and PhD programs that prepare students for careers in teaching, in historical research, and in archives, historical agencies, museums, libraries and government. The Department offers a wide array of geographically, chronologically and thematically defined courses.

Accounting is often described as the “language of business.” Numbers as language? Well, not exactly. Accountants definitely need to be numbers savvy, but what they really do is provide information. As an accountant, you’ll gather and organize financial information, analyze that information, assess performance and efficiency, and make suggestions for change or improvement.

The field of accounting is where you can see exponential growth. With advancements in technology, continuing changes related to accounting rules and regulations, and rapid globalization, there is no shortage of new opportunities and challenges for accountants. And because understanding of the accounting “language” is so fundamental to business, a degree in Accounting is a great launch pad for any business career.

The Lubar School of Business STEM-Designated Master of Business Administration (MBA) provides the specialized business skills needed to meet an individual's career goals. Lubar offers a major metropolitan learning laboratory where dynamic individuals, applied project work, and superb business connections translate into a rewarding life-long career.
