Electrical engineers make big dreams into reality—in the areas of alternative energy, wireless communications, electronic surveillance, computing technology, and semiconductor devices. Electrical engineers are at the forefront of technological advances. Imagine being part of a team that uses a CCD array to create an artificial retina, or a non-tethered pacemaker the size of a vitamin pill. How about developing an alternative-energy system to give a rural homestead power and wireless access, or designing the next generation of autonomous vehicles that conserve energy, plan routes and eliminate collisions? Closer to home, you can imagine a system that monitors your grandmother’s health, automatically administers her medication, and communicates remotely with care providers to allow her to live safely and with confidence in her own home.

Computer scientists do not just design software for computers. They work with the software and software systems that allow the day-to-day use of any computing system. Concepts and theory are the focus of this major.

Program Outcomes
Students who complete the B.S. in computer science will have an ability to:

• Analyze a complex computing problem and to apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.

The Bachelor of Science curriculum offers a broad, integrated, and in-depth approach to the life sciences. Departmental requirements consist of a balanced core of courses selected from several subject areas, combined with elective courses from the Department of Biological Sciences and other life science departments such as Neuroscience, Cell Biology and Physiology, and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. This degree program can accommodate students with such differing interests and objectives as graduate work in molecular biology, laboratory work in microbiology, or field work in ecology. The B.S. degree also can serve as preprofessional preparation for programs such as medical, dental, or veterinary sciences, or for education licensure.

Biological Sciences Program Learning Objectives

• Students completing a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences will be able to:
• Demonstrate proficiency in the knowledge of essential concepts of biology at molecular, organismal, and ecosystem scales.
• Demonstrate proficiency in the knowledge of concepts in chemistry and physics necessary to understand the foundations of biology.

The human resource management major provides advanced training if you are seeking upper-level human resources positions. Advanced human resource professionals are detail-oriented, have excellent people skills, and strong social and emotional awareness. Many of our human resource management students also double major in management, acquiring additional skills in leadership, team, and organization development.

The Master of  Organizational Studies comprises the core courses for the current Organizational Studies Educational Doctorate (Ed.D.) program. Students who are admitted into the Organizational Studies Ed.D. program will receive the M.S. in Organizational Studies once they have satisfactorily completed the Ed.D. program core courses, which includes the internship. The M.S. degree will permit all students to receive the master’s degree. The core courses provide an interdisciplinary approach to the study of topics, theories, and research critical to the success of leaders in a variety of organizational settings. These courses reflect a scholar-practitioner oriented program for working professionals, grounded in systems theory, adaptive leadership change, decision making, structure, personnel roles and functions, external relations, planning, program evaluation, and organization theory. The program is for those working in community, government, public service, business, non-profit, and education organizations.

Program Outcomes
The focus of the master’s program is to develop scholar-practitioners committed to exploring and expanding research related to the practice and processes in organizations. Graduates will deepen their understandings related to leadership and change within organizations. The participants will gain the knowledge and skills to conduct robust research, to strengthen practices in organizations, and to establish networks for education, psychology, urban affairs, and health and human services, to name a few. The following six principles (Fullan, 2005) form the conceptual framework of the proposed program:

Welcome to the Chemistry Department's Graduate Program at Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio! As faculty members, we look forward to working with you as you continue your education in the field of chemistry. You will find the graduate education experience at Wright State University an interesting and exciting transition from student to independent scientist. Graduate students begin this program by taking courses in Chemistry very much as they did as undergraduates. Upon the completion of this program, the student will present a thesis describing their own research, which contributes to the body of new knowledge in chemistry. Actually, the progress is not the simple progression that the foregoing statement might imply. This program takes approximately two years of hard work, and while you are taking courses, usually you will be serving as a teaching assistant for undergraduate courses. The experience and knowledge you obtain in this program will remain with you always. A productive chemist never loses the attitude of an inquiring student.

The Department of Chemistry offers a research-based program of study in two dedicated Master of Science (M.S.) degree programs. The M.S. degree in Chemistry is available with research concentrations in the traditional areas of Analytical, Inorganic, Organic, and Physical & Theoretical Chemistry as well as in Environmental, Polymer & Materials and Bioorganic Synthetic Chemistry and in Chemical Education.

Mechanical engineers focus on the analysis, design, automation, fabrication, testing, evaluation, and optimization of mechanical systems. Mechanical engineers are designers and problem solvers who are involved, in some way, with practically everything around us.

Historically, mechanical engineering (ME) includes two branches of study. The first deals with heat, fluids, and energy, such as combustion in a rocket engine, the wind and water flow past a racing yacht, or the design of a solar panel for a space station. The second area concerns force and motion in mechanical systems such as determining robot trajectories, analyzing automotive vibration and noise, and computing stress levels in the wings of a new aircraft.

The Master of Science program, leading to the M.S. degree, gives the student a broad base of fundamental theory and concentrated study in a particular area of specialization. This program is designed for the student who either desires a career in industry or government or wants to pursue further graduate study. Each student does experimental or theoretical research in an area of interest and writes a thesis.

This multidisciplinary program’s courses focus on starting, financing, commercializing, and managing a new business. Students learn to evaluate and plan new business opportunities, research and write comprehensive business plans, and learn additional skills in market analysis, problem solving, return on investment principles, team building, and planning.
