The Organizational Leadership major and minor are multidisciplinary, focused on the people side of organizations and managing others. An education in organizational leadership can provide you with a broad perspective to prepare for complex social, cultural, and professional issues that are sure to be encountered.

The goal of the program is to train students in modern electrical and computer engineering design skills, with the objective of post-graduation employment in a related field.  This will be achieved through attainment of the following student outcomes, as specified by the ABET Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission.  Each of these outcomes is addressed in one or more curricular requirements of the program.

Program Core Skills

Course work in the Bachelor of Arts in Earth and Environmental Sciences, Earth Sciences Concentration program combines lecture, lab, and field experiences with geology and the broader earth sciences, which include subjects such as water, soils, and atmosphere. Students pursuing the B.A. have wide latitude in their choice of coursework that allows them to supplement required courses with a broad sampling of other courses or to earn an additional credential such as a second major, a minor, or a certificate program.

You will grasp basic principles of the structure, design, and language of music in its historical and cultural contexts while studying music history and literature at Wright State. You can better understand the music you hear, perform, and create. This major is not a terminal degree, and you should expect to continue at the graduate level. Study from a social scientific perspective how humans create, transmit, receive, and respond to messages. The communication studies program will help you better understand intrapersonal and interpersonal communication. The mass communication program shapens your skills in mediated processes and effects, social media, digital media, and other multimedia processes. Your intellectual, organizational, and social abilities will increase through our new curriculum. These abilities can be applied to a variety of contexts, including interpersonal, organizational, and mediated settings. Your courses will underscore real-world experiences with theoretical frameworks. Your ability to critically think about the world around you cannot be overemphasized. We strive to help you participate in a democratic society as an informed and civically engaged citizen and demonstrate global and multicultural competence.

The Department of Human Services’ programs share a common curriculum of courses associated with five different counseling concentrations. Students may choose to obtain a M.S. degree in counseling with a specialization in clinical mental health counseling; business and organizational management counseling; and marriage and family counseling; or students may choose to obtain either a M.R.C. degree with a specialization in severe disabilities or chemical dependency, or a M.Ed. in school counseling.

Students entering the Human Services Department must complete a program of study that includes a general core curriculum and requirements specific for their area of concentration. Students plan their program of study in consultation with their faculty advisor, and elective courses may be chosen as appropriate.

Students must pass a comprehensive examination at the conclusion of their plan of study, in some cases a professional licensure test or certification may be used to fulfill this requirement.

The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) has conferred specialty accreditation to the following program areas in the department: clinical mental health counseling, and school counseling (M.Ed.). The Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE) has accredited both rehabilitation counseling programs: severe disabilities and chemical dependency.

The aerospace medicine Master of Science degree program is conducted by the Boonshoft School of Medicine’s Department of Community Health, Division of Aerospace Medicine. The program is the preventive medicine specialty that  promotes the health and functional well-being of pilots, astronauts and other flight crew members as well as all other people traveling in air or space. Our physician trainees endeavor to discover, prevent and manage various adverse  physiological responses of the normal healthy individual to the hostile aerospace environment, and learn to manage common medical problems associated with aerospace flights. Operationally related training includes life-support systems, aircraft and spacecraft accident investigation and aerospace human factors. Aerospace medical certification of pilots, astronauts and other flight crew members is also an important part of this training.

Program Learning Outcomes
The learning outcomes are centered on graduate pass rate for the American Board of Preventive Medicine - Aerospace Medicine certification exam.

The Bachelor of Arts degree in music is designed for students who want to study music but do not necessarily plan a professional career in music. Students will get a much broader, more general education than students seeking a Bachelor of Music degree. Required courses are kept to a minimum. Consequently, students must work closely with an advisor in selecting course electives. For graduation, students must complete level III in the applied music concentration.

You can harness the power of music and its ability to express and communicate while studying music at Wright State. You will develop knowledge, technical skill, and the use of technology in our multifaceted curriculum. After graduation, pursue a career as a performer, composer, arranger, teacher, cultural administrator, or community leader. Graduates of Wright State’s music programs have proven successful in all of these fields.

A degree in economics provides you with a solid foundation for a career in business, government, or nonprofit sector. Economists are vital in helping predict and study responses to changes in policy and the market and our program boasts a placement rate or nearly 100 percent in occupations requiring a master’s degree. You will study research methods and how social factors influence and shape our economy and apply those analytical skills to working in business, government, and nonprofit sectors.

This program develops professional economists who can solve contemporary problems with a unique skill set created by a curriculum that bridges the gap between research and the application of research. Our curriculum stresses applied research using traditional and nontraditional methods and takes advantage of our faculty’s diverse teaching and research activities. You are encouraged to develop and evaluate new approaches to economic problem solving while building the skills to work in business, government, and nonprofit sectors or continue your education.

Program Outcomes
If you complete this program, you will graduate with a Master of Science in Social and Applied Economics. This graduate program equips you to solve contemporary economic problems with a unique set of skills created by a curriculum that combines applied economics with social economics. This program bridges the gap between research and the application of research in business, government, and nonprofit sectors. In this program, you will be encouraged to develop and evaluate new approaches to economic problem solving.

If you want to see the big picture and manage a diverse range of people and business areas, pursue a master’s degree in leadership development at Wright State. We will work with your schedule, as we are transitioning to 100 percent remote course delivery. You can take two courses per semester and finish your degree in five semesters. You take courses in a cohort model that includes program-related experiences that integrate theory and practice.  

Your coursework will address the principles of individual-based leader development, focusing on processes that build the capacities of groups in organizations. You will be capable of applying knowledge, critical analysis, improvement strategies and research to common challenges encountered in business, community, educational and non-profit organizations.
