Study from a social scientific perspective how humans create, transmit, receive, and respond to messages. The communication studies program will help you better understand intrapersonal and interpersonal communication. The mass communication program shapens your skills in mediated processes and effects, social media, digital media, and other multimedia processes. Your intellectual, organizational, and social abilities will increase through our new curriculum. These abilities can be applied to a variety of contexts, including interpersonal, organizational, and mediated settings. Your courses will underscore real-world experiences with theoretical frameworks. Your ability to critically think about the world around you cannot be overemphasized. Wright State University prepares technical production experts, designers and stage managers to succeed in professional theatre and film production. Our Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) degree in Theatre Design and Technology offers a wide range of courses, four years of outstanding production opportunities, and state-of-the-art facilities. Our students’ work is highlighted in the campus productions of one of the top-tier performing arts programs in the nation, as well as for our award-winning Motion Pictures program.

Design and Technology faculty members are both working professionals and teachers, with active careers as technicians and artists in regional theatre companies, national conferences, and schools. They share their expertise as they work side by side with students on every aspect of production design and management.

Students may choose to concentrate in stage management, design or technology. With any track, our comprehensive program incorporates general theatre arts coursework with artistic design and theatre technology.

After four years of specialized training, our graduates are prepared to work in theater, opera and dance companies, television and movie studios, performing arts centers, and recording studios. Wright State alumni are currently employed at leading performance venues in such major entertainment centers as New York, Las Vegas, Chicago, and Orlando.

Wright State’s Microbiology and Immunology program has established a tradition of producing graduates who excel as doctors, dentists, and veterinarians in Ohio, across the U.S., and in countries around the world.

Wright State’s excellent facilities include access to constant temperature rooms, coldrooms, darkrooms, animal care facilities, and cell and tissue culture facilities. The equipment includes the latest available technology in fluorescent microscopes, flow cytometry, and mass spectrometers.

You will learn about the human body and how it interfaces with its immune system to battle foreign organisms. Pursue a specialty in areas like immunology, virology, immunotoxicology, DNA and conventional vaccine development, and molecular genetics. The honors program in the Department of Art and Art History is designed to give students with outstanding academic ability and superior accomplishments in art history the opportunity to complete a program that encourages and recognizes their distinguished efforts. These students may earn an honors degree by completing the departmental major requirements, maintaining a high academic record, and successfully completing a senior honors project. Students are usually admitted to the program during their junior year. Interested students can obtain information on the honors program from the Department of Art and Art History office.

Program Learning Outcomes:

• Have integrated drawing skills into their aesthetic sensibility.
• Demonstrate an acquaintance with the materials and procedures of four of the studio disciplines taught at Wright State.
• Show appropriate levels of proficiency in several of the studio disciplines

Crime and justice studies (CJS) is an interdisciplinary and incredibly varied field of study. Knowledge specific to the discipline relies upon research from fields as varied as sociology, law, history, psychology, and political science. It encompasses analysis of federal, state, and local entities that seek to understand, control, and deter crime. The principal agencies charged with these responsibilities are law enforcement, the judiciary, and corrections. More fundamentally, however, crime and justice studies examines questions of social justice—concerns related to equality, fairness, freedom, security, and social order. If you are interested in understanding the causes, responses, and consequences of crime for the individual as well as the larger society, consider this program.

Crime and justice studies is a liberal arts degree and therefore, our focus is on providing you with a well-rounded, critically engaged, and scientifically informed understanding of the field. While practical experience is a vital component of our curriculum, our larger mission is that, when you graduate, you will be an innovator and leader in your chosen occupations and will utilize scientific reasoning and sharply honed analytical skills on your path to success. You will be prepared for positions in a variety of occupations, including local and federal law enforcement, probation and parole, civil, criminal and juvenile courts, research, corrections, teaching, forensics, and a variety of other fields.

While crime and justice studies is an exciting and challenging major, it is not for everyone. Unfortunately, if you have a prior criminal record or a drug or alcohol dependency it will be difficult for you to obtain employment in the field once you graduate. Further, it is a field that generally requires not only keen analytic and technical skills but also the ability to empathize, establish strong interpersonal boundaries, and, most importantly, maintain fundamental respect for the rights and dignity of others.

The master’s program offers you a broad education in accountancy-related topics, allowing you to work in a variety of business industries, governmental agencies, or non-profit organizations. The demand for graduates educated in accountancy is growing in a complex and competitive business environment.

Our Master of Accountancy program helps you meet the requirements to take the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam. Graduates of our Master of Accountancy program consistently perform above the national average for passing the CPA exam and our graduates usually post pass rates that are among the top rates of any program in the state of Ohio.  

Program Outcomes
If you complete the program, you will graduate with a Master of Accountancy degree. You will have a broad educational experience for completing professional accounting exams such as the Certified Internal Auditor or Certified Management Accountant exams, as well as meet the requirements to take the CPA exam. This program also provides an excellent background for students interested in pursuing a law degree in the future.

The program in selected studies allows students to pursue a self-designed course of study. It is intended for students with a definite educational objective that is not met by the majors presently offered by the College of Liberal Arts. While the program is free from several traditional requirements, students must meet other requirements and procedures to obtain the degree.

The Department of Chemistry offers programs leading to the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, and Master of Science degrees in chemistry. The Bachelor of Science in Education degree with a concentration in chemistry is also available. The Bachelor of Arts curriculum is designed to prepare undergraduate students for careers as professional chemists, entrance into medical or dental school. However, the Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry program is not designed to prepare students for entry into graduate school for chemistry. The Bachelor of Science American Chemical Society (ACS) certified program is best suited to prepare students for a graduate program in chemistry. All of the programs are flexible and permit the options of a heavy concentration in chemistry courses or a combination of a chemistry major with extensive course work in allied (other sciences) or non-allied (business, arts) areas. In order for students to develop their academic programs to meet specific needs and individual interests, they should consult an academic advisor.

The goal of the program is to train students in modern electrical and computer engineering design skills, with the objective of post-graduation employment in a related field.  This will be achieved through attainment of the following student outcomes, as specified by the ABET Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission.  Each of these outcomes is addressed in one or more curricular requirements of the program.

The aerospace medicine Master of Science degree program is conducted by the Boonshoft School of Medicine’s Department of Community Health, Division of Aerospace Medicine. The program is the preventive medicine specialty that  promotes the health and functional well-being of pilots, astronauts and other flight crew members as well as all other people traveling in air or space. Our physician trainees endeavor to discover, prevent and manage various adverse  physiological responses of the normal healthy individual to the hostile aerospace environment, and learn to manage common medical problems associated with aerospace flights. Operationally related training includes life-support systems, aircraft and spacecraft accident investigation and aerospace human factors. Aerospace medical certification of pilots, astronauts and other flight crew members is also an important part of this training.
