The Bachelor of Actuarial Studies is accredited by the Actuaries Institute and includes the option to choose a specialisation to diversify your future career as a business professional. You’ll develop a specialist quantitative skill set in actuarial models, financial maths, probability, machine learning/AI analytics, and commerce. Graduates of Actuarial Studies at UNSW are in high demand. The Master of Engineering Science (Structural Engineering) will help you develop advanced professional skills in computational analysis and design of steel, and in reinforced, composite and pre-stressed concrete structures.

It is designed for practising structural engineers and recent graduates planning a career in structural or civil engineering.

You will investigate and gain practical experience in the structural integrity of materials used in buildings, bridges, dams, tunnels, roads, pavements and other structures when exposed to natural phenomena or hostile environments.

The typical two-year program, sitting within the UNSW School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, comprises 16 courses and features complex, open-ended enquiry-based projects as well as many other opportunities to help you become a leader in the field.

The program offers advanced disciplinary knowledge courses in the likes of structural stability, pre-stressed and reinforced concrete design, bridge engineering, advanced materials technology and computational structural mechanics.

In addition, you will develop a systematic approach to solving problems, as well as core project planning skills and the ability to analyse, interpret and communicate results proficiently.

Those with a degree or extensive prior professional experience in a related area can apply for credit of up to 50% of a program.

Building on UNSW Art & Design’s experience of delivering leading postgraduate education for arts and cultural professionals, the Master of Curating and Cultural Leadership (MCCL) is designed with extensive industry engagement and consultation. With an established and trusted history of producing graduates sought after for their vision, our graduates have secured roles in world-leading cultural institutions such as the Smithsonian, Carriageworks and MAAS.

This degree is for those interested in exploring a wide range of areas across curating and cultural leadership through industry engagement and professional experience with galleries, libraries, archives, museums and other cultural institutions. We deliver our curriculum in close collaboration with our on-campus UNSW Galleries and a broad range of Australian and international creative industries partners. These opportunities allow you to experience integrated, collaborative and diverse industry experiences throughout your postgraduate studies.

This degree provides pathways for both those with backgrounds in museums, galleries, arts organisations, art history and art practice and those who wish to enter curating or cultural leadership from other professional backgrounds.

The Master of Professional Accounting (Extension) follows the structure of the Master of Professional Accounting but adds four extra courses in your choice of electives to further your knowledge. This provides you with the opportunity to complete a more comprehensive program beyond the core professional knowledge areas required for accreditation.

UNSW Master of Engineering Science in (Water, Wastewater and Waste Engineering) is a 2-year full-time postgraduate degree that promotes flexible learning at Australia’s leading engineering faculty. It’s designed for students who already have a four-year accredited engineering degree and want to broaden their job prospects through cross training, re-training or specialisation.

Water, like many natural resources, is the lifeblood of individuals and communities across the world. Effective and sustainable water and wastewater treatment are crucial for urban populations as well as environmentally responsible waste management. If you’re an engineer or professional interested in expanding your knowledge and skills in the area, this degree will cover current and future technologies for water usage, wastewater treatment and waste disposal. In this degree you’ll learn the fundamentals of current practices in this field and engage with existing and future technologies ensuring your degree is relevant today and tomorrow.

Petroleum Engineers work with oil or gas companies to design, test and implement efficient methods to extract petroleum products from the earth and sea floor. They use their knowledge and skills to make estimations about what is going on thousands of metres below the ground. Petroleum Engineers rely on physical, mathematical and engineering principles to identify and solve problems in exploration, exploitation, drilling and production.

They work closely with other professionals, such as geologists, to locate the dig site, design and build the machines that extract as much oil and gas as possible. They also oversee the removal and processing of the petroleum itself. Petroleum engineers address the economic and management problems associated with the recovery of hydrocarbons and alternative sources of energy from below the Earth’s surface. Petroleum engineers apply practical science to the challenges and problems associated with oil and gas exploration, drilling and petroleum production. In this career you’ll focus on the environment, and how we can meet global energy needs in a long-term, sustainable manner.

In this career you’ll apply knowledge of chemistry, physics, geology and economics to the discovery, development and production of energy and material resources below the Earth’s surface. This knowledge can also be used to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and geothermal resources engineering.

The UNSW Master of Laws (LLM) is a one-year full-time postgraduate degree that offers you the opportunity to develop an advanced and contemporary understanding of one or more areas of legal study, acquire further expertise and enhance your career prospects.

Environmental Law and Sustainable Development
Environmental protection and the quest for sustainable development that can meet the needs of both present and future generations have become pressing common concerns at the national and the international level. In past decades, national and international law has developed a wide range of sector-specific and creative cross-cutting approaches to respond to these challenges. 

This Master of Laws specialisation will provide you with a strong theoretical and practical understanding of the environmental legal system, the frameworks of and tools for sustainable environmental management, and the complex policy issues presented by the environmental challenges of the 21st century. Environmental law encompasses a wide and diverse range of issues: energy, climate change, biodiversity conservation, water and oceans, agriculture, finance and international development, but also (and especially in Australia, as one of the world’s most urban nations) issues like city planning, commons, platform and sharing economies, transport, housing and corporate social responsibility. 

You'll acquire the skills and understanding needed to address the ‘wicked problems’ posed by environmental sustainability challenges and be equipped to pursue a career in environmental law and environmental policy. The specialisation draws on UNSW Law & Justice academics and visitors nationally and internationally recognised as experts in the field.
