UNSW’s Bachelor of Commerce/Arts is a double degree that will equip you with business experience and expertise, combined with the creativity, analytical and critical thinking skills that come with an arts degree. Both degrees offer flexibility, allowing you to shape your degree to match your ambitions and interests.

The Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) has been designed with consultation from industry to set you up for lifelong employability. By combining your BCom with a Bachelor of Arts, you can choose from a diverse range of majors and subjects in the arts, humanities and social sciences. You'll develop an in-depth knowledge and breadth of understanding, gaining the tools to think critically, communicate effectively and conduct independent research.

This double degree is designed for students wishing to pursue a career in either Engineering or Biomedical Engineering. The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) will provide you with a solid background in mathematics, natural sciences and computing which give you knowledge and skills in your chosen engineering discipline specialisation.

Biomedical Engineering applies engineering principles to the development of technologies and solutions in a range of healthcare-related fields, including implantable bionics, drug delivery systems, medical imaging, radiotherapy, orthopaedic devices, robotic surgery, cell and tissue engineering, physical rehabilitation and others. This double degree is currently offered for select specialisations only.

Key features

When you study this degree you’ll graduate with a specialised knowledge in Biomedical Engineering and a related Engineering specialisation unique to your interests and professional aspirations. With two degrees you’ll increase your knowledge of engineering by studying across two disciplines, one being Biomedical Engineering.

The globally recognised Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree is accredited by Engineers Australia and acknowledged by the Washington Accord.

This degree includes a practical component where you’ll apply your knowledge in practical settings through 60 days of approved industrial training in Australia or overseas. Industrial training will give you a taste of a real-world professional engineering setting and the hands-on experience to hit the ground running.

When you study engineering at UNSW you can take part in the ChallENG Program. This unique program connects students, academics and industry to exciting, real-world, project-based learning initiatives. The program will prepare you for your future career by helping develop technical and design skills and expanding your professional expertise.

You can take part in discipline electives including a Vertically Integrated Project and the Maker Games: Activation Hub – an award-winning rapid prototyping competition that includes access to industry experts and professional skills training.

The Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) is a four-year degree when studied full time, with an integrated honours component.

This bachelor’s degree focuses on the very real and very important outcomes of social work – giving you the practical skills to make a difference, with direct guidance from industry professionals and current social workers. Accreditation
Empower yourself with an education that meets formal accreditation standards. Upon graduation, you’ll meet the benchmarks set by the Australian Association of Social Workers (the professional body for social workers) and be eligible for their membership.

UNSW’s Master of Property and Development is a 1.7 year, or 1 year accelerated postgraduate degree that will equip you to work at the cutting-edge of a dynamic industry.

You’ll learn the modern principles of property investment, development and management and apply them across different phases of the industry cycle, learning to achieve successful outcomes in financial viability, risk management, sustainability as well as facilities and asset management.

Integrated design
Integrated designers place people at the heart of their work. Drawing from diverse design skills and methods, integrated designers engage with a range of materials, encounters, and forms of visual communication in their everyday lives. Integrated designers create insightful solutions using critical thinking, research, making skills and an awareness of industry needs.

The integrated design specialisation strongly focuses on solutions that respect human diversity and environmental sustainability while building skills in multiple areas of design. You'll choose at least two of these areas from graphic design, object design, textiles, experiences, interaction (UX), and 3D visualisation.

We'll introduce you to this range of design disciplines, starting with the fundamentals. Working in state-of-the-art studios, you'll build core skills grounded in deep reflection on diverse historical, social, cultural and technological values.

Start by choosing two design study areas outlined below, then decide which program structure suits your goals. (See 'Program structure' for more information.)

Graphics
Graphic design uses the skills of typography, image making, colour and design systems to develop effective and inspiring visual communications. Apply creative thinking to brand identities, innovative packaging, visually striking publications, and graphic design in 3D spaces. You’ll develop strong portfolio projects that demonstrate your voice as an emerging designer. 

Object
Object design works with different materials to create tangible and meaningful items – including but not limited to jewellery, furniture and ceramic design.

Fundamental hands-on classes explore materials before moving on to digital prototypes with 3D printing and cast designs. You’ll also understand different contexts and discover how object design gives people opportunities for social and meaningful interactions.

Textiles
Textiles tell stories and solve problems, whether applied to fashion, interior, exterior or product contexts. In this highly experimental program, you'll explore creative approaches to making meaningful materials. Journey through hands-on textile making traditions and contemporary technologies to develop your own innovative practice. You will gain knowledge in sustainability and social engagement to analyse contemporary issues, and learn how to respond to professional design briefs responsibly, ethically and with cultural acknowledgement.

Experience
Experience designers transform spaces for people. They design memorable and meaningful environments with the intention of creating connection. Be it social connection or the connection of audiences to content, experience designers draw on human centred design principles to develop unique spatial outcomes, understand and integrate digital technologies and craft atmospheres that move people. With application across a wide range of industries, the design of activations, exhibitions and events relies on critical engagement with cultural contexts, neuroscience, materials and modelling, with a sprinkling of spectacle.

In this program, you'll experiment with a diverse range of design methods that contribute to a practice that ideates and creates evocative environments that surprise, delight and, ultimately, engage participants.

Interaction
Explore fascinating emerging smart technologies – think voice assistants, robots, and mixed reality (for example, animated Instagram or Snapchat filters). Using these emerging technologies, you'll create a project demonstrating your understanding of human capabilities and user needs. But not before learning User Experience (UX) fundamentals in web and mobile.

Gain industry standard skills to meet people's needs with designing apps, software, products, websites, environments, and services. You'll develop practical and professional design processes through case studies and projects from concept to testing. 

3D Visualisation
Discover the world of 3D technologies including real-time (or gaming) systems and virtual environments. Understand how to create objects and environments before creating a sophisticated and explorable 3D world. Learn through live, hands-on experiences of key technologies and understand how to conceptualise through design thinking. Build the theoretical knowledge for high-level art direction while developing professional skills in 3D modelling, CGI lighting and rendering.

Go beyond traditional courses to examine new approaches to marine science. The Master of Marine Science and Management is multidisciplinary and cross-institutional, giving you access to a comprehensive set of approaches and methods unique to the field.

Your study will explore information systems and remotely sensed data analysis. It also covers the impact and use of marine science on legislation and management in marine and coastal zones. You’ll learn about coastal management and engineering, climate change, marine ecology and conservation, physical oceanography and modelling.

The UNSW Bachelor of Arts is a three-year degree when studied full time. As you develop your worldview through personalised course combinations, you’ll define a future life purpose suited to your passions and skills.

The School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications offers a five-year integrated degree leading to a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Master of Engineering (BE ME) in Electrical Engineering. Flexibility and choice are ingrained throughout the entire structure by providing many elective courses.

This degree is designed for you to develop essential capabilities such as creative problem-solving, analytical and critical thinking, independent learning, in-depth and discipline-specific knowledge, interpersonal communication skills, ethical standards, and a team-oriented attitude.

Push the boundaries of traditional practice with an extensive education in exercise science, physiotherapy and exercise physiology. This unique degree combination will prepare you to provide more comprehensive care for patients across three areas of practice. Prepare yourself for an exciting career in clinical settings such as hospitals or private practices, as well as non-clinical roles such as working with sporting teams or leading advocacy in healthcare management and policy.

Exercise scientists are specialists in the human body both at rest and in response to exercise. Exercise scientists gain knowledge in a broad array of subdisciplines such as biomechanics, motor control and exercise prescription – they use this knowledge to better prescribe exercise for the maintenance of health and improvement of performance.

Physiotherapists are experts in the structure and movement of the human body. Physiotherapists use hands-on physical therapy, tailored exercises, rehabilitation technologies and lifestyle modifications to help people affected by injuries, musculoskeletal conditions, and neurological and cardiovascular disorders. Along with improving mobility and function, physiotherapists provide health education to prevent further injury or illness.

Exercise physiologists use physical activity as a rehabilitative and preventative therapy. Exercise prescriptions are used to manage a wide range of conditions including cancers, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, metabolic, renal, respiratory, neurologic and mental health conditions.

In just five years, you’ll gain both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree, which will accelerate your career in health. When studied separately, this set of qualifications would normally take a minimum of six to seven years to complete. This degree has an embedded professional practice stream, where you’ll learn alongside students from our dietetics and food innovation, clinical exercise physiology and pharmacy programs. You’ll develop key interprofessional skills such as effective communication, cultural safety and competence, leadership, advocacy, entrepreneurship and business management. The stream provides an opportunity to start building connections with your future health colleagues and mirrors real-world practice, where professionals work in integrated healthcare teams. You’ll gain an understanding of how different teams work together to improve patient outcomes, such as how and when to refer a client to another health professional.

This degree will prepare you to work as an exercise scientist, physiotherapist, exercise physiologist, workplace rehabilitation consultant, wellness coordinator or clinical research assistant.
