The Bachelor of Early Childhood Care & Education (ECCE) offers students a range of academic and education courses that blend theory and practice in the early years, engaging with research and theory.
Three core threads are intertwined throughout the degree: Curriculum, Childhoods, and Leadership and Advocacy. Students are invited to engage in critically reflective practice, working to create classrooms of social justice and equity for children and families.

Courses in the first two years meet the requirements of MCFD for:

• ECE Certificate to Practice
• Infant/Toddler Certificate to Practice, and/or
• Special Needs Certificate to Practice
• The ECCE degree is a pathway to elementary teacher education programs at SFU and UBC.

The Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication is a four year long baccalaureate program offered by Capilano University. This program is specifically designed for students who wish to build a career in creative arts and communications. The aforementioned course focuses on performance, improvisation, knowledge of music, composition skills and understanding of music theory and integration of theoretical concepts with practical performance. The course is perfectly suitable for anyone who wishes to perform, compose, teach or go for higher education in the field of jazz music. Through the said degree students learn to Research, discuss, analyze, and notate music of a sophisticated harmonic, rhythmic, and formal character. Students are also provided abundant opportunities to learn from and witness the performances of world renowned jazz personalities.

The Bachelor program majoring in Jazz Studies is a four year long program that deals with various aspects of the said subjects such as jazz performances, composing music and theoretical knowledge about music pertaining to the field of jazz. This degree deals with the playing, composing, teaching and conduction of jazz music. 

The two-year diploma comprises the first two years of the Bachelor of Music and gives students the skills to develop a career as a self-employed music professional. Students are taught about the history of music, about the influential figures in Jazz Music, research, analysis and notation of jazz music. Students are required to produce scholarly work that shows a firm contextual understanding of music theory and history as well as exercise self-discipline and a strong work ethic in the development of performance and composition skills.

Learning Outcomes

• Describe the motion picture production process and demonstrate an introductory understanding of the roles of producer, director, production designer, writer and various crew positions on the set.
• Successfully demonstrate at an entry level the scripting, development, production design, pre-production, production, post-production and delivery of short dramatic narrative independent films in a collaborative manner utilizing professional standard communication skills, protocols and techniques.
• Apply appropriate management practices and procedures including the computational, intuitive, creative and technical skills involved in screenplay development, breakdown, scheduling and budgeting for small-scale projects.
• Demonstrate keys to success, including attitude, teamwork, set etiquette, human/public relations, professional behaviour and self-marketing in the established and emerging motion picture industry sectors.
• Understand how aesthetic engagement can enable them to make cultural contributions through the effective use of media.

Capilano University offers its students a four year long Bachelor’s degree program which majors in Liberal Arts. This baccalaureate program gives the students an opportunity to build their own multi-disciplinary with a number of courses from arts and sciences. This program is a golden opportunity for students to choose from a myriad variety of subjects and build up a custom made course for themselves, hence the name liberal arts. 

During the final year of the degree, students are required to produce an impressive graduating project that will cap off their entire university experience. This Bachelor of Arts program is designed by the students for the students according to their discretion.

Capilano University provides a diploma in Classical Music which spans for 24 months. This two year program offers students a wholesome and creative environment to nurture their potential. This program is a unified whole of theoretical, historical as well as performance studies. Students are taught a number of instruments such as piano, voice, guitar, strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion and composition.

This two year diploma is a transferable program and students can get transferred to a Bachelor’s Degree in Music or a post graduate degree in Music Education and Liberal Arts. Many of the music diploma students transfer to the third year in Music Therapy program. The Bachelor of Motion Picture Arts is a baccalaureate program spanning for a length of four years and offered by the School of Motion Picture Arts. In this program, students are taught a number of things such as theoretical and technical knowledge about the field, development of critical skills, practical experiences with people from the industry and state of the art equipment for practical purposes. The Bosa Centre for Film and Animation is used for students to interact with professionals from the field of motion picture arts. 

In order to gain skills in different technical as well as creative departments students are taught a number of things by trained faculty members. Teamwork is also very significant for this program for students are required to do group projects in collaboration with fellow students. This way a student has the opportunity of learning and choosing from different areas of filmmaking. The up-to-date professional equipment that includes an 8000 sq. ft. sound stage, 3D camera rigs and a 3D editing lab open for students to use and work on. 

The Rehabilitation Assistant program at Capilano University is offered by the School of Allied Health and is an undergraduate program that extends over a period of 2 years. The said program incorporates a number of important features which are to be followed by the students such as completing assigned tasks, use of appropriate language, time management, taking constructive feedback and inculcating practical skills necessary to fulfill the role of a rehabilitation assistant.

This is one of the few programs which combine occupational therapy, physiotherapy as well as speech/language audiology therapy. Rehab Assistants are mostly employed under acute care with the patients as well as at rehabilitation centres where the clients or patients need assistance in their day to day life. The age demographic of clients can be from infants to adolescents and can extend to elderly people. The triple-training provided in this unique program means you could be providing physical, cognitive, communication or psychosocial support.
