Employers are looking for environmentally responsible citizens who have a wide range of essential skills. The Environmental Studies certificate is designed to introduce you to those skills.

The Environmental Studies certificate is designed to allow you a degree of autonomy in your course selection. You will take a specific number of courses that deal with the environment along with options from a variety of subjects including geography, geology, anthropology and sociology.

This program is delivered in the classroom although a number of courses are also available online. Completion of the certificate may help you find employment in entry-level jobs or to move into further education to become more specialized.  We have transfer agreements with a number of Canadian universities. This program provides you with the skills you need to respond to rapidly transforming resource and manufacturing industry needs. The program aims to respond to the need for technicians skilled at installing and supporting wireless sensor and controller networks and other electronics systems. Graduates may find employment in a variety of industry settings, including users of telecommunications and radio frequency systems, manufacturing, and natural resources.

In year one, students learn the foundational skills required for more complex practical applications introduced later in the program. This includes a focus on electrical and electronics systems (AC, DC, circuits, and digital fundamentals). Students then proceed to microcontroller principles, several levels of data networks (LANs, WANs, routers, switches), and allowing networks to scale.

Are you passionate about exercise, sport, health, and human movement? Consider the Kinesiology program. Kinesiology is the study of the human body in motion and is a growing field that offers a variety of careers and educational opportunities.

Associate of Science in Environmental Sciences

The Associate of Science degree provides the student with the first two years of study towards a Bachelor of Science degree. The ASc, Environmental Studies, offers students an opportunity for cross-disciplinary studies in their areas of interest, particularly those that relate to the local and global environment.

Generally, students who earn an associate degree in Environmental Sciences will expect to transfer to university programs in Environmental Sciences. Those who complete the Biology core within their ASc should also be able to transfer into most Biology programs at Canadian universities. Students may also be able to take a directed studies course in Biology and become involved in an ongoing research project in Ecology. Some students may complete an associate degree in Environmental Sciences to pursue an academic career path. Others may use it to enter a more specific environmental technology program.

As with all of our Business Management programs, the General Management diploma infuses sustainable business practice knowledge throughout your courses. Sustainability is a priority for many in today’s global business environment. Upon completion of the General Management diploma, students are eligible to take advantage of block transfer agreements the College has with many other Canadian colleges and universities. Transfer is available to most Canadian post-secondary institutions on a case-by-case basis. Students can also enter directly into Year 3 of the Bachelor of Business Administration in Sustainable Business Practices degree program at College of the Rockies.

This major was developed for students who wish a high degree of flexibility in their course selection. As well as the required Business Management courses, students may select other specialized areas.
