Humber’s Tourism – Travel Services Management diploma program is ideal for those who possess a genuine love of travel, exploration and adventure. The program will provide you with the experience you need to excel in this exciting industry including:

In order to best prepare for this dynamic industry, you will have several opportunities to travel internationally on both short duration trips and for full semesters abroad. In addition, several courses include local travel opportunities that give you hands-on experiences in a variety of tourism and travel products and adventures. In the Trip Planning course, you will plan and execute a travel experience. The program also includes extensive training with the most recognized software systems in the tourism industry.

Fast-track program – Students that start in January will complete the program on a fast-track schedule. The first semester (January to April) is immediately followed by the second semester (May to August), resulting in a short summer break. Students enter Semester 3 in September, completing the two-year program in just 16 months.

Students will apply their skills and knowledge in the fourth semester in a seven-week (32 hours per week) unpaid work placement. Placement opportunities include positions in retail travel agencies, tour operators and destination management companies. You will practise and develop skills selling tourism products, as well as gain introductions to operations, sales and marketing.

Humber’s Construction Engineering Technology program is one of three stackable programs within the Carpentry-Construction group. Along with the Carpentry and Renovation Techniques certificate and the Building Construction Technician diploma, the program introduces you to the carpentry trade, gives you practical experience with trade regulations and with best practices. Students will be able to move from various certificate and diploma programs into the advanced diploma program (including Carpentry and Renovation Technician, Industrial Woodworking Technician, Carpentry and Renovation Techniques, and Building Construction Technician).

The advanced diploma program is designed to explore the construction industry from an engineering and management perspective. You will become familiar with the strategies required for project planning and execution for the commercial-based industry.

Throughout the program, you will learn about compliance with workplace health and safety practices and procedures in accordance with legislation and regulations. You will also learn how to ensure that work is performed in compliance with contractual obligations, applicable laws, standards, bylaws, codes and ethical practices. Coursework will include sustainability practices. Teamwork, leadership, and supervisory and interpersonal skills will be emphasized.

Key learnings will include:

• Collecting, processing, analyzing and co-ordinating technical data to produce project-related documents
• Co-ordinating and facilitating the collecting, processing, interpreting and application of survey/geomatics and layout information
• Selecting and using industry-specific technologies
• Monitoring projects through principles of construction project management
• Preparing estimates
• Performing, co-ordinating and facilitating quality control testing

Optional Co-op
This program offers a co-op option. Co-op work terms enable you to apply your skills and knowledge in a work environment and gain valuable, practical experience related to your program of study. You will learn new skills, learn about the world of work and meet people in your profession.

For students who are accepted into the program, two co-op work terms will take place. The first four-month work term is between Semesters 2 and 3, and the second four-month work term is between Semesters 4 and 5. There are limited spaces in the co-op option. Therefore, you will apply for the co-op option during Semester 1 and be informed of the process by which to apply. While co-op work opportunities are not guaranteed, as students are in a competitive job placement market, participating students will receive a wide range of services to help them find a co-op opportunity.

This is one of the few Pre-Health Pathway programs with real science lab experience with no prior lab experience/studies necessary. There are a multitude of careers in health sciences, and this program is a pathway to explore your options. You will strengthen your science, writing and math skills, and explore career paths in biotechnology, pharmacy technician, registered or practical nursing, Chinese medicine, paramedicine and more.

Humber’s Computer Programmer diploma program is designed to prepare students for a wide variety of employment opportunities within the dynamic and ever-growing field of programming. In addition to learning programming in a variety of languages, from ASP.NET to XML, you will gain an in-depth understanding of industry-standard operating systems and how to use them. You will learn everything from C programming and shell scripts, to back end web design and Java. Upon graduation, you will be equipped with the up-to-date skills you need for success.

Our programming courses are designed to give you a thorough grounding in theory and practice including web development and design, distributed computing, database management and administration, project management, technical writing, information technology, and all facets of information systems. You will also learn about software development applications and follow the standards of planning, developing, testing and supporting software.

Canada has approximately 675,000 people working in information and communications technology (ICT), and about half of that workforce is in Ontario where the ICT industry accounts for over $30 billion in sales. Help satisfy the continuing demand for skilled IT professionals. Our graduates are able to work as computer programmers, junior web developers, junior database designers, junior software testers, customer support analysts, system co-ordinators, technical sales co-ordinators or technical support representatives.

Humber’s Millwright Techniques certificate program is designed to help introduce prospective millwrights to the trade. The program aims to facilitate employment or provide the required components to enter into a millwright apprenticeship program, giving practical experience with trade regulations and practices. You will gain a solid understanding of the various technical theory and elements of the millwright trade. There will be a significant practical component to the program, and you will learn valuable skills by using the latest industry software programs and working in fully equipped up-to-date labs and shops. At Humber, skilled instructors highlight current trends within the industry and strive to duplicate situations that apprentices and skilled tradespeople will see in their everyday working life.
Canada currently faces a critical shortage of skilled workers. Skilled tradespeople will be increasingly in demand because of the rapid pace of technological changes and as current workers in the field begin to retire. According to the Working in Canada Report (Government of Canada), employment opportunities for licensed millwrights will be steady. Graduates of this program will find a range of employment opportunities through millwright apprenticeship programs, as well as positions associated with construction and industry work, metal fabrication, and green energy. There are many opportunities for advancement within this career path from supervisory to management positions.

Humber’s Electrical Techniques certificate program is designed to introduce you to the fundamental elements of the trade. We aim to facilitate your employment by giving you practical experience with trade regulations and practices. Throughout your program, you will get a solid understanding of the various technical elements of the electrical trade. There will be a significant practical component to the program. Our graduates find a range of employment opportunities with electrical apprenticeship programs, power generation, green energy and automation.

Humber’s Culinary Management diploma program teaches you the skills you need to excel as a chef in the culinary industry. This program will also prepare you to to design, organize, implement, serve and execute your own dinner event in the “Chef's Table” course. Using a market-related themed menu, mise en place and à la carte cooking, students will showcase classical and contemporary techniques and skill. The Charcuterie and Advanced Garde Manger courses involve students using contemporary level food presentation, styling techniques and becoming proficient with various butchery processes on a wide range of meats. The Emerging Trends course is unique among Ontario colleges, providing students with the opportunity to work alongside local guest chefs. Students also have the opportunity to experience preparing meals on the Humber Food Truck, Humber’s classroom on wheels. In addition, students work alongside some of the country’s best chefs. Qualified students will complete work placements in the kitchen of a leading hotel, restaurant or golf course of their choice for seven unpaid weeks in the fourth semester (40 hours per week). Students are also able to apply for placements across Canada and internationally, which has jumpstarted many successful careers.

In Humber’s Film and Television Production (FMTV) advanced diploma program, you will gain hands-on experience with production and digital cinematography equipment from your first days at school. Industry experts will train you in the skills required for success in the film industry. A wide variety of filmmaking, editing and cinematography courses will help you achieve well-rounded capabilities and create head-turning work.

In our FMTV program you will:

Work Placement
The program features a work placement that runs from four to eight weeks. Instructors work with students to find a suitable placement, enabling them to hone their skill sets in a professional environment. Toronto and southern Ontario are home to numerous television and film production, post-production, lighting and sound companies. Humber has strong relationships with these firms, with many having worked with students before, giving you an advantage when applying for your placement.

Humber’s Electronics Engineering Technician diploma program emphasizes electronic products, control systems and telecommunications - all built on a strong basis of computer and networking engineering. The program provides you with hands-on experience of electronic, analog, digital and programmable circuits. Our experienced faculty will teach you about computer programming, interfacing, local networks, radio frequency circuits, basic programmable logic controllers (PLC), industrial electronics, wired and wireless communication devices, and troubleshooting techniques. You’ll be taught how to embed these circuits into smart devices, industrial equipment, and consumer products.

You’ll also build and test circuit boards, learn electronics fabrication, program PLCs and design embedded systems in our state-of-the-art labs including a prototyping facility.
