Our busy days are often highly scheduled, making it essential that quality wellness and recreation services are available within our community. Recreation and sports professionals help build healthy communities and develop programs for individuals of all ages.

Experiential Learning
This hands-on program produces recreation and sport professionals with the skills and knowledge to help people of all ages and abilities combine wellness and physical activity in their daily lives:

• Engage in outdoor recreation activities such as stand-up paddle boarding, canoeing, slacklining and skiing.
• Work directly with children and youth with a variety of exceptionalities and abilities within an adaptive recreation setting.  
• Prepare for self-employment through an independent research project in the final semester. Design an original program or business that can be showcased to employers and investors upon graduation.
• Pursue opportunities to complete aquatic and outdoor recreation qualifications.
• Gain important public relations, marketing, financial, and research and proposal writing skills.
• Hear from industry professional guest speakers in recreation and outdoor education.
• Gain 320 hours of on-the-job experience in two field placements within a variety of settings: municipal health and wellness centres, military recreation, resort destinations, outdoor education centres, retirement and therapeutic recreation facilities, and international programs

Prepare for an exciting and rewarding career providing leadership and guidance during emergency situations. Gain the knowledge and specialized skills needed to respond operationally and strategically to emergencies through mitigation and prevention, preparedness planning, response and recovery.

Experiential Learning
Explore topics such as planning and coordination, legislative frameworks, risk and assessment, incident management systems, incident response and crisis communications to prepare for a career providing management expertise in a range of emergency situations.

• Learn how to develop, review and update emergency policies and programs based upon relevant legislation, standards and procedures, and what is required to conduct effective hazards identification and risk assessments.
• Explore developing, conducting and evaluating training programs and exercises to test current emergency management programs while assessing the integration and compatibility of various emergency polices, plans and procedures.
• Develop strategies for implementing and maintaining a business continuity plan that will ensure the recovery of normal operations for affected businesses and industries.
• Get an introduction to coordinating the development and administration of public awareness and education programs, emergency information and media relations programs.

As our dependence on electricity grows, so too does the demand for skilled electrical workers. Electrical Engineering Techniques students are introduced to electrical principles and building construction wiring while technician students advance into industrial automation and PLC programming, preparing for tomorrow's trends in next generation robotics.

Get practical, real-life training in a supportive learning environment that nurtures one-on-one relationships with instructors:

• The first year provides a working understanding of electricity and electronics, as well as the fundamental skills needed in electrical construction and automation.
• Develop skills in electrical installation, motor control and the basics of industrial processes — including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), fluid power and process control.
• Hands-on work with actual PLCs in your first year, not just simulation software.
• Students gain a solid understanding of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code.
• A second year of study delivers skills required in installing, configuring, maintaining and calibrating industrial control systems, including industrial robotic and automated production systems.
•  Students can apply their knowledge to extracurricular projects, such as building a racecar simulator arcade game using only automation equipment and software.

Prepare to get your hands dirty! Loyalist offers real-world learning for real-world problems — featuring extensive fieldwork and instruction with technologies of the future in the newly equipped Bay of Quinte Skills Centre:

• Sample natural environments and analyze environmental contaminants.
• Get hands-on experience in leading-edge environmental facilities, including well-equipped Field Biology and Instrumentation labs.
• Understand the underlying social systems that contribute to pollutants in water, soil and air.
• Learn to apply current legislation under the Environmental Protection Act.
• Applied project learning and field placements in the second and third years provide practical experience, preparing you for a smooth transition to the workforce with a wide range of skills.

Spas and salons are increasingly popular destinations for people wanting to reduce stress and feel younger. Train in a full range of spa services to help people look and feel their best. Then, put those skills to work, both in our on-campus, student-run day spa and during two field placements.

Experiential learning
In this hands-on program, students operate The Spa at Loyalist, a busy wellness retreat and retail boutique delivering full esthetic services in a supervised environment:

• Train in a full range of spa services in a safe learning environment, including manicures, pedicures, facials, hair removal, make-up artistry, aromatherapy and hot stone massage.
• Get the highest technical skills in Loyalist’s lab using the latest in skincare technology, including microdermabrasion and facial machinery.
• Work with new state-of-the-art medical spa equipment, including the Sonicator 740, an anti-aging skincare system that applies ultrasound technology, and the IPL Angelite, an Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) machine used for photo facials and permanent hair reduction.
• Deliver high-end customer service as you interact with clients.
• Develop important skills in front desk management and the latest point-of-sale software.
• Learn the business side of spa management with instruction in visual display, retail sales, marketing, personal finance, business communications and entrepreneurship.
• Create a business plan including a spa design layout and creative spa menu showcasing a variety of skills learned in the program.
• Earn 180 hours of clinic time in our state-of-the-art, full-service spa.
• Network and showcase your skills to industry, with two field placements.
• Learn from reputed guest-speaker educators.
• Participate in community outreach events to support local women and children.
• Be proficient and fast with skills by practicing skills throughout the two years.

Train for a career in the fast-paced and ever-changing automotive field with expertise that can be applied to motive power trades such as heavy equipment, small engine, marine, power sport, truck and coach and agricultural technician.

• Learn by doing in Loyalist’s new state-of-the-art Bay of Quinte Skills Centre.
• Practise your skills on real vehicles and vehicle components in a safe learning environment.
• Gain practical knowledge of safe environmental practises and small business management.
• Enjoy extracurricular opportunities including the annual Show and Shine event, Drive to Survive, Santa Claus parade, Heels on Wheels, and the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas.
• SEMA has invited Loyalist students to participate in its student placement program for the past seven years – the only College Automotive program in Canada to participate in the program.
• Selected parts of the course content mirrors that of the three levels of the Automotive Service Technician Apprenticeship program.

From sustainable houses to sophisticated office buildings and community recreation centres, you can help design and build residential, commercial and institutional spaces that will shape our communities and the way people live.

Experiential learning

• Creative problem solving and real-world skills will build the buildings and cities of the future. In this program, students will learn the significance of architecture to human culture and how buildings are designed, developed and constructed.
• Learning combines studio work, classroom instruction and field trips to study the design and construction of major construction and renovation projects – working independently and in teams.
• Develop skills in manual and computer design and drafting (CADD), and then create 3D models using the latest software in our state-of-the-art design studios.
• During independent design projects, students determine a structure’s physical needs, and design solutions that creatively address the use of space, materials, codes, structure, construction methods, zoning and the environment.
• There will be an optional work integrated learning opportunity upon completion of semester four.
• In their last year, Technology students use 3D modelling software to design a public facility in a local community.

Paramedics are often the first people on the scene of an emergency. They balance compassion with critical decision-making skills and the ability to take command in a crisis and help save lives.

Leveraging the best practices of paramedicine established from our Bancroft offering, the Belleville campus is excited to offer a traditional Monday through Friday delivery model utilizing our state-of-the-art, interprofessional simulation centres and experienced faculty to deliver more options to the Belleville community and its future first responders.

• Enhance your learning and engage in 'real-life’ clinical situations with a variety of technology solutions.
• Access all of the resources and facilities available through a main campus experience.

This program prepares participants to monitor and control radiation exposure and to implement safety measures. Radiation safety technicians and specialists work together with physicists, occupational safety and health specialists and public health officials in various nuclear, health care and natural environments.
