• Enjoy extracurricular opportunities including the annual Show and Shine event, Drive to Survive, Santa Claus parade, Heels on Wheels, and the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas.
• SEMA has invited Loyalist students to participate in its student placement program for the past seven years – the only College Automotive program in Canada to participate in the program.
• Selected parts of the course content mirrors that of the three levels of the Automotive Service Technician Apprenticeship program.

In the Business – Finance and Analytics program students will:

• Process and maintain financial records in compliance with relevant policies, procedures and regulations for individuals and/or organizations.
• Prepare and present financial information in compliance with relevant legislation and regulations for individuals and/or organizations.
• Generate financial reports for individuals and/or organizations by applying financial mathematics and statistics.
• Contribute to the development and the implementation of a financial plan to meet individuals’ and/or organizations’ needs and objectives.
• Contribute to the development and the implementation of marketing strategies to promote financial products and services and to enhance customer service.
• Develop and implement strategies to establish and maintain professional networking and business relationships in the finance sector.
• Analyze, within a Canadian context, the impact of economic variables, legislation, ethics, technology and the environment on individuals’ and/or organizations’ operations.
• Develop and implement ongoing strategies for personal and professional development, highlighting ethics, values and standards in the finance sector.
• Develop strategies to scrape and mine financial data to meet clients and/or organizational goals.
• Develop and pitch new product ideas based on data analysis that will enhance the user experience of financial products.

• Gain a depth of knowledge in customs, including compliance, risk management and the global movement of goods.
• Navigate international customs and business practices.
• Get applied knowledge of project management including planning and reporting, scheduling techniques, element interdependencies, and project costing and crashing.

• Beginning with a two-week start-up boot camp, move your ideas forward through flexible scheduling that fits your already busy life. 
• Work in teams to nurture high-growth ideas or existing early-stage start-ups and be guided through the building process.
• Create and deliver executive-style presentations before an audience of prospective customers, employees and investors during industry showcase and pitch competitions.
• Participate in monthly educational “pit stops,” providing tailored, rigorous training on strategic entrepreneurship issues.
• Utilize the Business Model Canvas to develop the nine key components of your business.

This hands-on introduction to residential design includes consideration of the environment, building codes and residential building design practices. It delivers marketable skills in under a year of study and prepares students for further study in the Architectural Technician/Technology program.

Bring your design ideas to life in this hands-on program:

• Get a practical blend of classroom instruction and hands-on studio experience.
• Design a small building by creatively addressing the use of space, materials, code requirements and the environment.
• Showcase creativity and analytical skills to create a design, and then bring your concepts to life with a 3D models.
• In less than a year, you will develop marketable skills and knowledge in construction drawings, residential building codes, computer drafting (AutoCAD and SketchUp), construction materials and methods, and presenting your designs.

Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) are in demand in virtually every field, including public accounting, industry, arts and entertainment, as well as not-for-profit sectors. Develop the technical foundations in financial and managerial accounting, taxation, and more that you need for a successful career as a professional accountant. In the Ontario Tech University BCOM Stream program, you can earn a diploma and a Bachelor of Commerce degree in just four years.

Earn five Ontario Tech University BCOM credits during your two-year diploma studies at Loyalist and gain direct entry to third-year degree studies in the Ontario Tech University Faculty of Business and Information Technology.

• Build on your studies at Loyalist with further study at Ontario Tech University in advanced auditing, information systems, financial and managerial accounting, taxation, and financial statement analysis.
• Eligible students can apply to the Bachelor of Commerce Accounting major, which is aligned with CPA Ontario for entry into the CPA Professional Education Program.

• Put your skills to work in Loyalist’s student-run tax clinic. For the 2016 tax year, students completed more than 200 returns — putting more than $245,000 back in the hands of Loyalist students.

• Develop managerial skills in budgeting, product costing and price setting, eliminating financial waste and finding operating efficiencies.
• Access opportunities to gain certification in industry-leading software such as MS Excel, Sage 50 Accounting and QuickBooks.
• A third year of study provides advanced knowledge of financial and management accounting, corporate taxation and audit techniques, focused on obtaining the ACAF certification.
• Collaborate and formulate strategy in simulated business competitions.
• Learn from case studies and guest speakers from the local business community.
• Put your skills to work in Loyalist’s student-run tax clinic. For the 2016 tax year, students completed more than 200 returns — putting more than $245,000 back in the hands of Loyalist students.
• In year three, put your skills to work in our Money Matters clinic and gain customer service experience assisting students with budgeting and financial matters.
• A four-week field placement in third year provides valuable industry experience and networking, and the opportunity to graduate into a job.

A horticultural technician works with plants and has knowledge and skills in ornamental horticulture and plant health care. Using tools and machinery, this person installs, grows and maintains indoor and outdoor plants; builds urban and rural landscapes; maintains outdoor properties; cares for turf grass and golf courses; and installs and maintains irrigation systems. The fundamentals of grounds keeping, including safe snow and ice removal, as well as sustainable agriculture practices and green technologies are also introduced.
