• Understand the principles and techniques of organic and analytical chemistry, chemical engineering and industrial processes.
• Gain applied skills with chemical instrumentation, extraction technology, health and safety, and microbiology techniques.

• Graduates are prepared to work in research and development, analyze and interpret data, manage lab operations, assess analytical methods and develop new techniques.

Customs compliance and border security have emerged as areas of national focus in public safety and global trade. Train for a career in this dynamic segment of the Canadian economy. Learn with leaders in virtual learning environments – Loyalist’s border simulations have been used by the Canada Border Services Agency to train new recruits.

Biotechnology plays a critical role in the battles against hunger, disease, and pollution. It is used in developing precision medicines and gene therapies, environmental decontamination to restore polluted spaces, and engineering crops to improve their yield and nutrition.

• Hands-on learning combines classroom theory and practical, lab-based instruction.
• Work in state-of-the-art Instrumentation and Molecular Biology labs equipped with PCR and DNA sequencing technology.
• Get experience with a wide variety of instrumentation used in genetics, microbiology, fermentation and forensics.
• Get on-the-job, practical experience with field placements in the second and third year.

Expand your knowledge in Biotechnology – Advanced:

• The third year focuses on intensive, laboratory-based instruction and project-based learning in molecular biology, microbiology, analytical instrumentation, tissue culture and cutting-edge extraction technologies.

A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. The precision work of welders and fabricators holds up bridges and delivers miners safely underground. Gain skills in welding, fabrication, detailing and millwrighting that you can use across the country, from coast to coast, in virtually any industry.

Experiential learning
Prepare to meet increasingly complex industry standards through hands-on learning in Loyalist’s newly equipped The Bay of Quinte Skills Centre:

• Follow projects from the engineering drawings stage, through cutting and forming processes, to the completion of the job and quality inspection.
• Create with new and evolving technologies such as CNC press brakes, CNC plasma cutting and 3D designing.
• Practise welding techniques such as gas metal arc welding, shielded metal arc welding and gas tungsten arc welding.
• Participate in the Ontario Skills Competition and field trips to the Canadian Manufacturing Technology Show.
• Expand your theoretical and practical skill set, along with in-depth trade practices and job planning skills, in the two-year diploma program.

Many people are overwhelmed by the justice system and the cost of legal representation. Paralegals help their clients navigate through the process and answer key questions. Licensed paralegals can also represent their clients in court. The Law Society of Ontario accredits this program.

Experiential learning
Students prepare for the full scope of practice of a licensed paralegal in Ontario through a blend of classroom instruction and practical experience that includes:

• Training in substantive law and legal procedures.
• An emphasis on ethical conduct and professional responsibilities.
• Preparing and presenting a case in court before a local judge during a moot trial in the Ontario Court of Justice or the Superior Court of Justice where each student is assigned the role of a legal representative.

Apply your learning on the job during a field placement in your second year. Loyalist students have completed placements with:

• Provincial Offences Prosecutor’s office
• Federal Department of Justice
• Private law firms
• Paralegal firms
• Community legal clinics
• Government legal departments
• Crown Attorneys’ offices (criminal)

This program prepares participants to monitor and control radiation exposure and to implement safety measures. Radiation safety technicians and specialists work together with physicists, occupational safety and health specialists and public health officials in various nuclear, health care and natural environments.

How You'll Learn

Leveraging the best practices of paramedicine established from our Bancroft offering, the Belleville campus is excited to offer a traditional Monday through Friday delivery model utilizing our state-of-the-art, interprofessional simulation centres and experienced faculty to deliver more options to the Belleville community and its future first responders.

This program will prepare you to create engaging content and deliver it through any medium. Earn a full spectrum of skills — ranging from television production and digital filmmaking to web streaming and interactive content creation. No BYOD costs. We provide digital camera, audio, lighting and grip equipment. No fully loaded MacBook Pro requirements either. Loyalist College offers the use of Mac and PC labs with relevant software to help you complete your work.
