Biotechnology encompasses a wide field of studies including molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics (including genetic engineering), cell biology,  microbiology (including forensics and food processing), analytical instrumentation, and  bioengineering.

The program is designed to prepare students as biotechnology technicians through the familiarization with scientific methods and experimental techniques, in accordance with accepted principles of quality assurance and manufacturing.

      • Design pedestrian and cycling facilities to local guidelines (e.g. The Ontario Traffic Manual and the Transportation Association of Canada Geometric Design Guide for Canadian Roads)
      • Interpret the Ontario Planning Act as related to transportation engineering technology
      • Produce a roadway geometric design in computer-aided drafting software (both AutoCAD and Civil3D)
      • Understand the basics of construction management for a simple project
      • Prepare minor reports presenting a problem, alternative solutions, and recommended course action
  • After five semesters, a student will have enough knowledge and skill for the following (Usually in time for a Summer co-op):
    • Make a functional design of an intersection and a roundabout
    • Perform advanced spreadsheet functions, including the use of macros
