They are relied upon for their expertise at electrical systems installation and operation. In accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code and the National Building Code, you’ll learn fundamental wiring practices, pipe threading and bending techniques, cable tray installation, and other necessary skills. With smart technology on the rise, trained Electricians are value-added members of modern construction teams. 

Networks connect businesses with the buying world. You’ll learn how to design, implement, troubleshoot and administer secure networks and internetworks, as well as advanced skills in network and internet operating systems, network infrastructure, administration, and security. As electronic communication continues to dominate industries, business leaders rely upon network administrators for success.

Please note: Students who have successfully completed the Network Support program have the opportunity to enter directly into the second year of the Network Administration program.

The Client Service and Sales program appeals to those seeking a career in client service industries. With a focus on contact centres, students learn the cornerstone skills of customer service, communication, and sales techniques to build relationships with clients. Throughout this program, students acquire the interpersonal skills and best practices to build performance excellence and increase productivity. The program enables students to confidently interact with a team and identify one’s immediate and long-term impact as a business asset within various sectors (e.g., finance, insurance, telecommunications, and hospitality).  Students are introduced to supervisory skills and managerial principles to better prepare them for leadership opportunities. Emphasis is placed on developing and enhancing the required verbal and written communication skills to confidently engage clients, interact with internal and external stakeholders, and provide quality customer service.
 
The Client Service and Sales program may be delivered through a combination of in-class and on-line instruction. Simulations and real-life examples may be used to support hands-on communication, sales, and keyboarding practice during the learning of "talk-tech-type" engagement with clients. Students develop the necessary technical skills to perform in a multi-faceted and fast-paced contact centre environment. Opportunities to visit a contact centre highlight industry’s commitment to this training and give a first-hand look at career possibilities.
 
A workplace experience at the end of the program provides students with exposure to a contact centre facility during which they learn about the operations of a contact centre, observe client service representatives in action, and relate their experience to their newly acquired knowledge and skills.  This experience also provides students with networking and relationship-building opportunities.

The Community Pharmacy Assistant program is designed to provide students with the skills necessary to be employed as a pharmacy assistant in a community pharmacy setting.

Areas of study include anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, communication skills, pharmacy law and ethics, pharmacy calculations, non-sterile compounding techniques, long term care pharmacy, receiving and entering a prescription, pharmacy software, inventory and third-party billing. Interpersonal communication skills is developed and evaluated along with other related skills in laboratory sessions on campus and during the practicum period.

Truck and Transport Service Technicians put big rigs back on the open road. They examine transport vehicles for defects, locate the cause of malfunctions, overhaul mechanical components, check electrical and fuel systems, repair problems, and fit and reassemble new parts. You’ll learn how some of the largest motor vehicles operate and the nuts and bolts of every part. In our global market, the transportation of goods in a timely manner is vital, and service technicians are critical to successful business.

Financial Managers are trusted decision-makers. They research and analyze companies and effectively communicate with clients. You’ll learn about risk and return, portfolio evaluation, securities terminology, market operations, financial planning, the psychology of investing, insurance basics, and sales techniques. Our program incorporates the nationally recognized Canadian Securities Institute curriculum and offers real work experience. This is an education you can literally take to the bank.

The Business Administration: Financial Management program will prepare you to write the Canadian Securities Course Examination or the Canadian Investment Funds Exam. Graduates of the two-year Business Administration program who have achieved a minimum of a 70% average each program year may be able to transfer into the third year of a four-year degree program at Cape Breton University (CBU) or the University of New Brunswick Saint John (UNBSJ). NBCC is committed to furthering our university relationships; therefore, other university agreements may be available.

The Educational Support program prepares learners for a career in educational settings supporting students with learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, sensory or physical disabilities and behavioural challenges. This program will prepare learners to be part of a multidisciplinary team that supports students with diverse learning needs while maintaining a safe and inclusive environment that promotes students’ well-being.

Within this two-year diploma program, learners also participate in experiential and applied learning opportunities that allow further integration of theory and application.

The Building Engineering Technology program is designed to train students in the analysis, design, drawing, detailing, and presentation of commercial building projects. The first year of training covers engineering technology basics such as engineering science, materials technology, surveying, and computer-aided drafting. Many courses are common with other technology programs and may be used for credit transfer. In the second year, students specialize in subjects that relate more specifically to building engineering.

Throughout the program, students will learn and apply the knowledge and skills in a real, practical, and simulated environment through lectures, extensive hands-on activities, and individual or team projects.

Motorcycle Mechanics find freedom and adventure in working with vehicles outside of the box. They diagnose and repair motorcycle systems, including: two and four stroke engines, carburetion, fuel injection and electrical systems. You’ll learn how to inspect, service and repair motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles and other related equipment. The open road of career possibility is waiting for you. Motorcycles are used all over the world and skilled service technicians are wanted.

Construction Managers take the lead on major builds. They make tough decisions and see a construction deal through from the blueprint design and contracts phase to a top quality finished structure on time and on budget. You'll learn construction principles and practices, the basics of building engineering technology, and equipment and management-related skills. Many courses in your first year are common with other technology programs and provide flexibility for credit transfer. Our on-the-job practicum readies you to lead construction teams in multiple settings on projects large and small. Builds happen every day and confident construction managers are in high demand.
