Graduates of this program are equipped to pursue employment in a broad swath of computer programming-related fields, including iOS and Android application development, web development, and games development, as well as more generalized computer programming careers. Graduates may also choose to continue their studies with North Island College by continuing with the Advanced Communication Design Diploma.

Graduate ready for entry-level employment in this high opportunity field or ladder seamlessly into either stream of our Post Graduate Diploma with a focus on Web Development or Mobile App Development.

Criminology involves the study of crime, criminal behaviour and responses to law-breaking. The principle elements of criminology are social science theory, institutional and systems impacts, and research methods that explore all aspects of crime, criminal behaviour and justice issues. The individual and social impact of crime will be a critical component of your research.  Your two-year Criminology diploma is the first step toward criminal justice related employment and/or further studies in criminology. The diploma program consists of 60 credits of university transferable coursework, completed on a full-time basis over two years (four academic semesters). Options for part-time study are also available.

The Human Services diploma has a wide focus which allows you to pursue courses in community support, education assistance, social services or behaviour interventionism. A variety of employment options exist in human service agencies depending on the courses chosen and final practicum focus.  The program provides opportunities to enhance the knowledge and skills you developed in your certificate program and can be pursued on a part-time or full-time basis. The program runs from early September until late June and includes human services (HSW) and social services (SSW) courses.

A diploma in business administration will qualify you for a wide range of career opportunities. Depending on your interests and area of specialization, job titles may include, but would not be limited to, market researcher, sales and retail manager, advertising coordinator and product manager.   You may choose from three diploma options: General Management, Accounting or Marketing all of which include an optional Co-op term. 

Qualify for entry-level leadership and guiding positions with sea kayaking and river rafting companies, coastal and mountain resorts, sailboat-based tours, whale and wildlife tour operators, outdoor centres, youth wilderness programs and camps, adventure therapy programs, interpretative centres and other rewarding settings.

You will be well-prepared with relevant outdoor leadership skills that transfer across a variety of career paths and professions such as conservation officer, park ranger, teacher, community recreation programmer, field researcher or assistant (biology, geology, etc.), professional ski patroller and other industries and services.

If you have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution, this program provides you with an opportunity to complete a post-degree diploma in business administration in one academic year. You may select options in general management, international management, marketing, accounting and finance or human resource management.

Through either an online or classroom-based curriculum, you will develop a fundamental knowledge of administrative principles, financial accounting, economics, and organizational writing. Explore marketing for public, private and not-for-profit sectors, with particular emphasis placed on assessing dynamic marketing environments and developing a marketing strategy. Learn software widely used in business administration and learn how to use presentation software in a supportive, hands-on environment.

Graduates of this program are equipped to pursue employment in the field of communication design, graphic design and web design and front-end scripting. Graduates may also choose to continue their studies with North Island College by continuing with either the Communications Design diploma or the Web + Mobile App Development diploma.

NIC’s fine arts program offers a career-focused education that fosters strong problem solving, critical thinking, research and studio practice skills. You will develop critical and theoretical skills in a broad range of mediums encompassing traditional, interdisciplinary and digital arts practice.  NIC’s well-equipped studios and unique setting has extensive resources, both physical and human, to inspire your imagination, allowing you to experiment with different mediums and express yourself individually.  The Fine Arts diploma will prepare you to launch your career or transfer to degrees at UVic, VIU or at Emily Carr University of Art + Design.
