Tell the story
As a Sheridan Journalism student, you'll learn from the best. Our award-winning and forward-thinking professors are drawn from Canada's busiest and most progressive newsrooms. They'll guide you through a cutting-edge digital curriculum that emphasizes: reporting, writing and editing, social media branding, research techniques, story pitching, web and print design, and data journalism.

You'll undertake a 40-hour practicum during Year 2 of your make-up artist program. This practicum is driven by your areas of interest and can range from working in a photographer's studio or in live theatre to helping with make-up application for television.

Critical training
In this program, you’ll learn from professors and guest speakers who have considerable experience in family therapy, policy development, social work, social justice and other social service fields. You’ll gain a solid skills foundation through a laboratory practicum, and you’ll develop plans for starting and running a service organization.

ATVF integrates the practical, technical and creative aspects of television and film studies while providing direct, industry-relevant experience. You'll develop your creativity while gaining the specialized skills you need to bring your ideas and vision to life on the screen. You'll also acquire an understanding of new technologies and production methods, enabling you to stay current.

Get immersed in the industry

• Learn sophisticated production techniques and explore a variety of digital image capture systems and technologies.
• Gain skills in areas such as directing, screenwriting, cinematography, editing, sound, production design and post-production.
• Build career connections during a four-week job placement.
• Produce dramatic or documentary films.

Professional faculty and facilities
Our instructors and production facilities rank second to none among film schools in Canada. You'll work in professional surroundings, learn from practicing filmmakers with years of industry experience, and be immersed in the culture of the television and film industry — and, in just one academic year, you can become part of it.

In the technical areas, camera students will work in professional-style camera teams coached by industry gaffers, 1st ACs and cinematographers. Students shoot on both documentary and cinema cameras. Audio students are trained in software such as Pro Tools. Sheridan has two industry-style mixing theatres for audio mix playback. Students can screen their final films on a cinema-size screen with an industry-quality projector and a Dolby surround-sound environment.

Sheridan's Advanced Television and Film (ATVF) program provides a benchmark of excellence for film schools in Canada. Our student work consistently wins awards at film festivals in North America, and our camera students have won Canadian Society of Cinematographer "Best Student Cinematography" nominations in two of the last three years. This program will equip you with the skills you need to support students with a range of special needs. Things you'll do and learn

• Respond to and assist with personal care needs of students in educational settings from kindergarten through high school.
• Work as part of the educational team with specialists and family members.

• Support inclusion of the student to aid his or her social development and sense of belonging.

Visual effects is truly a balance of left and right brain thinking. You must be able to understand and utilize both art and technology to create effective visual effects. Only by exploring the latest software and technology in-depth, will you be able to apply and grow your artistic talent.

Be a part of the film-making process
Whether it's creating massive destruction scenes or expanding the scope of production, nearly every film now requires visual effects for support. By collaborating with students in other filmmaking programs, you'll learn to become part of the film production process and capable of creating and integrating any digital elements required to tell the story.

Now and then
You'll come to Sheridan with artistic ability and experience using 3D software. We'll build on that foundation over a period of 10 months and teach you the tools and techniques to become a successful visual effects artist. We'll help you explore and realize your visions and find your path in the visual effects industry.

The Visual Effects program at Sheridan provides the industry's most comprehensive curriculum by leveraging the knowledge and facilities of our world-renowned Computer Animation and Advanced TV and Film programs. Our instructors bring years of industry experience and a passion for creating visual effects.

Using cutting-edge computer systems technologies (such as Android, iOS and Unity) and industry standards (such as Java, Oracle, C, C# and .NET), you'll learn to create solutions to real-world problems.

You may be able to earn a high-paying co-op placement, and many of our students are hired by their co-op employers after graduation. You'll need to fill out a separate co-op application and enrolment is limited.
