The Computer Programming (CP) program follows an experiential learning approach to education by offering courses that parallel the software development practices used in the modern workplace. Throughout the program CP students apply concepts learned in the classroom to solve programming problems. They learn to work in project teams, in which they design, develop, and test applications.

The CP program is a two-year program in which students learn a wide variety of skills, ranging from basic programming practices, problem-solving, software design, critical thinking and application development. Over the duration of the program, students will learn to write programs for desktop and web. Students learn many programming languages, including C#, C++, PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, and Java, and are taught the skills to learn other languages.  Students who are successful in Computer Programming are eligible to continue their studies in the Computer Programming and Analysis program offered at Kingston Campus with admission into the third year of the Advanced Diploma program.

The first two years in both programs are common. The Business Administration-Accounting (3 year) program offers students a more intensive background in financial accounting, corporate finance, cost accounting and taxation during the third year as well as a work placement in the final semester of the program.

Built on a strong foundation of marketing, human resources, and accounting the two-year Business diploma appeal to those interested in a broad, well-integrated education.

Business students at St. Lawrence College become effective leaders and communicators, able to represent themselves and their work through interviews and resumes, networking opportunities, and presentations. Students apply problem solving, teamwork, and intercultural skills to projects at the college, in the community, and internationally, establishing themselves as global business citizens.

The two-year Business diploma provides opportunities for rewarding careers in business and for further education, such as the Bachelor of Business Administration and international studies through St. Lawrence College.

On our Kingston campus, the first year of Business programs is common for the Business Diploma, as well as Accounting, Marketing, and Human Resources. The common first year allows students to experience elements of each program before deciding the path that is right for them.

Students in the Business Diploma program are empowered with the human skills employers are demanding. They will become effective communicators across cultures, problem solvers, leaders, collaborators, and critical thinkers. Graduates will also develop in-demand technical skills such as data analysis and business intelligence, global business techniques, sustainable business practices, MS Office Suite, project management, and an entrepreneurial mindset. The combination of human and technical skills Business Diploma graduates are empowered with will enhance their employability, as they are adaptable and flexible practitioners who the labour market demands.

The General Arts & Science (Certificate) program offers a foundational year for students preparing for the workforce or for future study. Students in the General Studies stream meet with the program coordinator to customize their program according to their needs and interests. Core courses include communication, computers, applied or social science, personal development, and general education. Complementing these are varied electives such as Film, Addictions, and Fitness. Students can also focus on essential competencies in communications, science and math.

Highlights
This one-year post-secondary certificate prepares you directly for the workforce or for future study. You will develop a set of core employment skills, complemented by electives that are chosen in consultation with your academic advisor (500 hours). Students are also eligible to continue their studies in the General Arts & Science Diploma at the second-year level.

Start your career off by developing essential skills required by environment sector employers and by being prepared to participate in the green economy. The Environmental Technician pro­gram provides a well-rounded background for employment in a wide range of sectors through courses in water and air quality, waste management, occupational health and safety, and environmental assessment.
 
Program highlights include field courses at the end of the second and fourth semesters and a four-week work placement.
 
Students benefit from the College’s partner­ship with the St. Lawrence River Institute of Environmental Sciences. The River Institute, located on the Cornwall Campus, is a centre for scientific research focusing on the St. Lawrence river and the sur­rounding environment. Scientists at the River Institute are actively involved in the teaching of many of the science and field courses in the program and they work with the College in ongoing program development. Through this partnership, you will have an opportunity to learn and work with research scientists on a variety of environmental issues.

This Ontario College Certificate program prepares students to provide personal care and support services to individuals and families. Responsibilities of the Personal Support Worker may include assisting with home management, facilitating social and recreational activities, and promoting health and well-being with clients from all ages of the lifespan.

The program has been developed to meet the standards published by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. These standards reflect the increased pre-employment education and training required by Personal Support Worker graduates entering the increasingly diverse health and social care environment.

Personal Support Workers are unregulated health care providers. They work as a member of the care and support team under the supervision of a regulated health professional or supervisor, or in the supported independent living environment, under the direction of the client.

The General Arts & Science Diploma provides a broad liberal arts curriculum that prepares students for the workforce, college programs, or transfer to university. Core courses provide a solid foundation in communications and interpersonal skills, computers, mathematics, analytical skills, science, and general education. Complementing these are varied electives such as Film, Addictions, Fitness, and Psychology. All courses are chosen in consultation with the program coordinator, ensuring the right mix to meet each student’s interests and vocational goals.

General Arts & Science is a flexible program. Course sequence can change subject to student goals and class availability.

You will take a number of core courses that provide a solid foundation in communications and interpersonal skills, computers, mathematics, analytical skills, science, and general education. The remaining courses are electives, chosen in consultation with your program advisor. Diploma graduates are prepared to enter the workforce directly, or they may continue their studies at university.

University-bound students are encouraged to complete a pre-university diploma track. Students who self-identify as Pre-University work with the Program Coordinator to further customize their diploma course selection in preparation for university study. Key academic areas (Communications, Applied Science, Social Science, Math) are emphasized in accordance with the student's goals. Potential transfer opportunities exist at a number of Canadian universities; exploring these possibilities is at the discretion of the student. The Business Fundamentals program provides students with a broad and exploratory business education. It covers business basics such as Accounting, Marketing, Human Resources, Business Mathematics, and Business Communications. This program serves as the first year for the Business Core diplomas—Business, Accounting, Human Resources, and Marketing—and graduates can choose to pursue one of these diplomas or use their Business Fundamentals certificate as a foundation for other programs of study or their career.

The supply chain is one of the most essential sectors of the Canadian economy, involving about 767,000 workers from a range of occupations and industries. The success of this sector in meeting its human resources and labour-market challenges has the potential to positively influence the future of Canada, and the quality of life that we all enjoy (Canadian Supply Chain Sector Council).

This graduate certificate program builds on the student’s previous education and work experience and introduces all facets of supply chain management and logistics from a theoretical and practical perspective. Program participants are provided with a comprehensive understanding of the principles and techniques considered essential for employment in this sector and benefit from an integrated field placement opportunity upon completion of the course work.

This two-year Ontario College Diploma pro­gram prepares students to work as practical front-line service providers in a variety of social service settings.

The SSW program gives students the opportunity to learn about and to work with many different people including individuals with mental health and addiction problems, seniors who require extra support, children with behaviour problems, women who have been abused, people who live in poverty and / or who are homeless and adolescents who live in group homes.

• Relevant courses emphasizing active learn­ing, skill-based learning, hands-on activi­ties, practical assignments
• Eligibility to join the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and to use the title, Registered Social Service Worker.
