The Screen and Cultural Studies Specialization focuses not only on literary texts, but also on cinematic, media, and cultural texts. Courses in this area reflect an interest in literary and cultural history; literary and cinematic forms, movements, and genres; cultural and critical theory; audience and reception studies; and the intersections between literature, film and other forms of cultural production.

All students are welcome to take courses in this area, whether they choose the specialization or not.

In the department of Modern Languages and Literatures, we offer the 3 or 4-year BA (Major or Combined Major) in German Studies with challenging courses where you will discuss topics of current interest, reflect on problems of the modern world, explore the culture of Germany, Austria and Switzerland and read literary and other texts dealing with the social and political issues of our time.

From the beginning to the advanced level, we offer up-to-date language instruction in an intimate learning environment. As you develop your command of oral and written German, you will also develop the cultural understanding that is needed in the global community through the study of literary and other texts.

Students without any previous knowledge of German can begin here with GERM-1001(6). If you have some prior knowledge, you can meet with a departmental advisor to select the appropriate level of course.

To major in German, you must take one required course, GERM-2109(3) Advanced Intermediate German I, as well as a set number of courses at the 3000-level. If you do not wish to major, but simply to pursue German studies out of interest, you are also welcome in our courses. Contact a departmental advisor to determine the right level for you.

PACE offers the Marketing Management Diploma Program in a full-time, two-year format which includes a 4-week internship.

Interdisciplinary Linguistics examines the complexities of language use in daily communication within various social and cultural contexts. You’ll gain an in-depth understanding of how language encodes meaning, and gain skills to write, read and speak with greater confidence, fluency and power.

This innovative joint program with Red River College will provide an opportunity for individuals to earn both a Diploma in Indigenous Studies Administration from Red River College, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Indigenous Studies from The University of Winnipeg.

Students who complete the Diploma in Indigenous Studies Administration at Red River College are given 30 credit hours towards a Bachelors of Arts degree in Indigenous Studies at the University of Winnipeg. This could be the equivalent of a three-year degree, a four-year degree, or an honours degree.

Students who begin at The University of Winnipeg will take a number of courses at Red River College. Some courses must be taken at The University of Winnipeg, some at Red River College, and some can be taken at either institution. Students may begin the joint program at The University of Winnipeg or Red River College in a part-time or full-time capacity.

The Information Systems (IS) stream is aimed at students interested in focusing on information and business needs of IT industry. The new stream is intended to prepare students in information oriented courses, and also in system and Internet based technologies. Sample courses include: Internet programming, database design and development, software requirements and design, telecommunications, business application systems and eCommerce. One advantage of this stream is that students can easily combine this stream as a double major with another department for a Bachelors degree in arts or science.

Master the analytical framework and essential project management tools for budgeting, procuring, scoping, modeling, measuring, and reporting. This program equips graduates with the essential skills of project management and is aligned with the knowledge requirements of the Project Management Professional (PMP)® and Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® industry-recognized certifications.

(PMP and CAPM are internationally recognized designations offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI)

Program Outcomes

• Create and execute project work plans, define project scope and deliverables, determine project resources and staffing requirements, set project milestones, develop budget proposals, and successfully close a variety of projects.
• Gain a thorough understanding of the procurement life cycle including contract (tort) laws, potential legal issues, the step-by-step methodology for developing and managing procurement specifications, documents and contracts, and best practices for the vendor selection process.
• Create a project management communication plan that builds effective stakeholder and project team communication, and gain familiarity with a variety of project reporting tools and communication templates for communication purposes throughout the project life cycle.
• Manage change in project scope, create comprehensive risk profiles, and identify and develop mitigation and avoidance strategies that protect against a variety of liabilities and damage to organizational business interests.
• Foster a dynamic team environment built on collaborative relationships, clearly define group roles and responsibilities of the project team, and constructively and proactively manage conflict in order to avoid potential harm to the project and/or project team.
• Utilize project management technologies and analytics to streamline and ease process.
• Will help prepare students to write the Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Associate Project Management (CAPM) designation examinations.

The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree offered through the Department of Business and Administration is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in business, in the private, public or non-profit sectors. We nurture socially conscience business leaders and entrepreneurs that are capable of adapting to the ever-changing needs of the modern business world.

The Business and Administration program develops critical thinking, analytic and decision-making abilities, oral and written communication skills, and the self-confidence to effectively apply these skills. Some courses in the program are taught using the case method, a simulation of real business situations from the perspective of the actual decision-maker. Computer-based simulations, experiential exercises, guest speakers, and field trips are also used to connect course material to the business world.  A new co-op work study program allows students to add career real work experience to their UW Degree. The field of finance has its roots in the discipline of economics and business. This program will provide students with the conceptual tools to understand a number of issues from modern finance theory and applications. The program will provide students with a solid understanding of the operation of capital markets and capital market instruments, including equities, fixed income securities, as well futures markets, options and other derivatives. The program will provide students with an in-depth understanding of topics in modern finance and financial economics as it relates to the capital structure of firms and how these financial instruments affect the overall operation of modern financial systems.

Students have the option of pursuing a BA in Economics and Finance or a BBA in Economics in Finance.

Biology is a broad discipline, which includes the subject areas of botany, zoology, microbiology, cell biology, ecology, and genetics. It examines all life forms from the simple to the complex, and is an ideal partner to study in chemistry, physics, and mathematics. If you have an aptitude for science and possess a keen desire to understand the living world, you will find the study of biology very rewarding.

At The University of Winnipeg, we teach a wide range of courses and offer active research programs in botany ecology, forest ecology, mosquito biology, evolutionary genetics, molecular biology, evolutionary physiology, soil microbiology and remediation, limnology, bioinformatics, genomics, dendrochronology, behavioural biology of birds, effects of UV radiation on the environment, and cell biology.
