Are you interested in obtaining an education organized around questions of social justice, global citizenship and human rights? Consider our new major in Human Rights – the only one of its kind in Western Canada. Through this multidisciplinary program, you will have an opportunity to explore issues of human rights in a context defined by globalization. This major is offered through Global College.

This innovative joint program with Red River College will provide an opportunity for individuals to earn both a Diploma in Indigenous Studies Administration from Red River College, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Indigenous Studies from The University of Winnipeg.

Students who complete the Diploma in Indigenous Studies Administration at Red River College are given 30 credit hours towards a Bachelors of Arts degree in Indigenous Studies at the University of Winnipeg. This could be the equivalent of a three-year degree, a four-year degree, or an honours degree.

Students who begin at The University of Winnipeg will take a number of courses at Red River College. Some courses must be taken at The University of Winnipeg, some at Red River College, and some can be taken at either institution. Students may begin the joint program at The University of Winnipeg or Red River College in a part-time or full-time capacity.

Today’s global marketplace is increasingly complicated by converging markets and fraught with rapid technological change. PACE offers the Marketing Management Diploma Program in a full-time, two-year format which includes a 4-week internship.

• Apply analytical and decision-making tools to competitor and target market analysis, brand management tactics, customer relationship management, and new product development opportunities;

• Understand the power of digital communication technologies and how it needs to integrate with traditional approaches to marketing;
• Develop comprehensive marketing strategies and articulate shared value opportunities to customers, stakeholders and employees;
• Examine effective distribution channels and explore ways to build efficiencies and reduce costs.

Theatre and Film – one of the largest in Canada – includes the opportunity to obtain a Bachelor of Arts in one of six different areas of study: Acting and Directing, Design, Drama in Education, Filmmaking, Playwriting, Stage Management or Production. The Department also offers a BA (Honours) in Acting, Directing, Design, Playwriting, and Stage Management and Production.  Your coursework will encompass a full range of practical and theoretical study, and will prepare you for an exciting career in the arts.

he 4 Year BA in Indigenous Studies is more appropriate than the 3 Year BA in Indigenous Studies for preparing the student for graduate school. It allows flexibility of choice for students who want to sample a wide variety of courses; to develop a stronger understanding of Indigenous issues, peoples, and policies; and who wish to develop their skills in critical reading, writing, and thinking. Students will gain knowledge on Indigenous cultures, particularly Canada, much of it wish can be applicable in work situations in band, provincial, national and international settings as well as with non-profit and for-profit organizations.  It can be successful paired with any number of other majors – Indigenous Studies and Criminal Justice; Indigenous Studies and Politics, for example.

Because this program offers much freedom of choice, it is important for students to think carefully about their interests and goals when choosing courses. Anthropologists study the evolution of humankind by examining how humans have developed and adapted, both culturally and physically, to the world around them. Anthropology specializes in cultural anthropology, archaeology or physical anthropology, or you may choose an integrated program that includes all three areas. Practical experience is also available through the Archaeological Field School.

Economics analyzes how societies provide for their well-being, and examines the choices and tradeoffs that are made in the face of limited resources. You’ll study the competition and cooperation that arises among individuals, private organizations, and governments in the process of allocating scarce resources for a variety of different uses. Economics also offers insight into politics, law, history, environment, and development.

One may obtain the Economics Major through the 3-Year BA, the 4-Year BA or the BA Honours degree program. Some of the courses we offer are recommended for interdisciplinary programs, and it is common for other departments in the University to require or recommend certain Economics courses. The BA in Economics is highly recommended for students planning to go into law, accounting, or business studies.

The interdisciplinary Disability Studies program offers B.A. options at the three-year, four-year, and honours level. Disability Studies is cross-disability (all disabilities rather than one), intersectional (disability in conjunction with race, gender, class, ethnicity, sexuality, etc.), and based in the social model of disability rather than the bio-medical model. From this perspective a lack of ramps is considered disabling, not the fact that someone uses a wheelchair.

The focus of the Disability Studies program at the University of Winnipeg is the critical analysis of disability in society. This includes the study of disability as a social, cultural, historical, and political construction. Students are encouraged to examine a wide range of topics such as human rights, ethics, social movements, theory, family, sexuality, employment, socialization, aging, education, international development, and gender issues.
