The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree offered through the Department of Business and Administration is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in business, in the private, public or non-profit sectors. We nurture socially conscious business leaders and entrepreneurs that are capable of adapting to the ever-changing needs of the modern business world.

The Business and Administration program develops critical thinking, analytic and decision-making abilities, oral and written communication skills, and the self-confidence to effectively apply these skills. Some courses in the program are taught using the case method, a simulation of real business situations from the perspective of the actual decision-maker. Computer-based simulations, experiential exercises, guest speakers, and field trips are also used to connect course material to the business world.

The three-year BBA is an excellent complement to a major or degree in another field and is intended to be readily accessible as a part of a double degree program upon completion of additional coursework.

All this is highlighted by the legacies of great writers such as Plato, Sophocles, Virgil, and Cicero. Ancient history is surprisingly pervasive in today's cultures, religions, movies, literature, politics, journalism, and advertising. If you have a desire to understand our modern world, studying Classics is an ideal way to begin.

Classics is the study of Greek and Roman culture, society, and history through a variety of disciplinary approaches: archaeology, philology (the study of Latin and ancient Greek), literature, art history, social history, political history and thought, philosophy, religion and mythology.

This degree combines the information and methodologies of Anatomy, Anthropology, Archaeology, Biochemistry, and Biology with the techniques of the physical sciences to examine human biological systems of the past and present. It is an interdisciplinary program that is founded primarily on courses from the departments of Anthropology and Biology. As a student in this program, you will gain an understanding of comparative anatomy, cellular biology, methods in archeology, and primate evolution. You will also obtain experience in up-to-date laboratory techniques and procedures. This program offers the option of combining two exciting disciplines to create a skill set that is interesting and unique.

Chemistry is the essential science to the building blocks of life. It spans all aspects of our lives, from our health and nutrition to our scientific discoveries and management of an environmentally sustainable world. A degree in this “central science” can take you anywhere, allowing you to specialize in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, or physical chemistry.

This innovative joint program with Red River College will provide an opportunity for individuals to earn both a Diploma in Indigenous Studies Administration from Red River College, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Indigenous Studies from The University of Winnipeg.

Students who complete the Diploma in Indigenous Studies Administration at Red River College are given 30 credit hours towards a Bachelors of Arts degree in Indigenous Studies at the University of Winnipeg. This could be the equivalent of a three-year degree, a four-year degree, or an honours degree.

Students who begin at The University of Winnipeg will take a number of courses at Red River College. Some courses must be taken at The University of Winnipeg, some at Red River College, and some can be taken at either institution. Students may begin the joint program at The University of Winnipeg or Red River College in a part-time or full-time capacity.

Chemists are at the forefront of unravelling the mysteries of the most complex chemical systems. If you’re interested in understanding the structure of matter and how it behaves on a molecular level, you may be drawn to the field of chemistry. In Applied Chemistry, you can choose from either a traditional program or a co-operative option that integrates academic studies with 12 months of paid work experience in chemistry-related positions.

If you enjoy thinking about life’s big questions, you might be a natural philosopher. Philosophy engages in disciplined and imaginative thinking about the philosophical questions common to all humans by studying the works of great philosophers. Through analysis and discussion, you’ll learn how to think critically, and understand the origins of the ideas that influence us today.

Philosophy is literally the love of wisdom. Rather than studying a particular aspect of human history or culture, philosophy takes a step back and tries to understand the nature of all inquiry. Students of philosophy examine fundamental beliefs about who we are and the world we live in – beliefs most people take to be true but never examine systematically and critically. Philosophers consider such questions as: What is the meaning of life? How should I live my life? Why be moral? What is the best form of government? Are human beings immortal? Does God exist? What is knowledge? Does the world appear to us as it really is? What makes something right, or good, or beautiful?

If coming to an understanding of the human condition is the goal of a liberal arts education, then philosophy is essential to it. But philosophy also has a practical side, which we see whenever we debate social and political questions concerning the environment and our obligations to future generations, the distribution of wealth and opportunity in society, gender equity, the relationship between science and religion, and so on. Philosophy helps us to identify and defend what is most valuable to us.

The UW Philosophy Program prides itself on being small and student-focused; this is a place where you can work closely with professors and other students in small classes, reading great philosophers from the past, and thinking and writing about the big questions.

Why do people think, feel, perceive, and behave the way they do? Psychologists seek to find answers to these questions by studying the human mind and behaviour. The Psychology program, explores topics ranging from the basic nervous system to principles of perception, learning, and cognition to gain an understanding of both social and clinical psychology.
