Math majors participate in department seminars and do independent study and honours research projects with faculty members. The department employs its students as tutors in the Math Centre and for summer research projects.

The Economics Major introduces students to the core body of knowledge in the discipline. In addition, students improve their abilities to conduct pricing, cost-benefit and program analysis, forecasting and industry analysis. They learn how economies interact which aids in all facets of business decision making. Finally, they learn to analyze the economics of the regulatory process and the reaction of businesses to the regulatory environment. Emphasis is placed on the application of basic economic tools to policy areas.

Learning objectives

• Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:
  • Discuss the theories and principles of microeconomics including trade and comparative advantage, the functioning of markets, consumer theory, uncertainty and risk, production and costs, market structure under varying competitive conditions, price theory, public good provisions, externalities and other market failures, environmental protection, taxation and welfare economics.
  • Discuss the theories and principles of macroeconomics including economic fluctuations, growth and development; unemployment; inflation, interest rates, deficits and debt, balance of payments and exchange rates, fiscal, monetary and various other polices using economic growth models, aggregate demand and supply as well as other applicable models.
  • Collect, analyze and interpret relevant economic information from multiple sources.
  • Demonstrate how quantitative/statistical methods and software packages can be used to examine economic data.
  • Describe the role of government and institutions in the economy including taxation, spending, regulation and production.
  • Integrate ethical concerns including efficiency, fairness, equity and individual freedom in policy development.
  • Analyze the behaviour of individuals, businesses and industries in market-based systems; social issues; and the challenges of developing economies using different microeconomic and macroeconomic theories and principles.
  • Assess and revise public policies addressing both market and non-market issues.
  • Apply economic theories and principles in a professional setting.

The Master of Science in Data Science (MScDS) is normally a 2-year program. The goal of the program is to provide students with solid knowledge, techniques, and experience in the research and application of data science, and to prepare students to become researchers and leaders in the emerging area of data science at the regional, national, and global levels.

The program is unique in that it can be an application-orientated or a research-orientated master’s program depending on whether students choose the Graduate Project option or the Graduate Thesis option. Regardless of their choice, graduates will develop the strong data analytics, critical-thinking, communication, and interpersonal skills required for success as a data scientist in big data or to pursue further advances in research.

Bachelor of Tourism Management

In first and second year, you’ll take foundation courses in applied tourism, management practices and general tourism studies, followed by courses in third and fourth year that offer an enhanced understanding of tourism management and tourism as a social phenomenon.

In upper years, students take a combination of core courses and theme-based electives covering three interdisciplinary areas: global perspectives, understanding tourism culture and place, and designing and providing experiences.

Combines chemistry and molecular biology in a way that prepares students for the explosion of knowledge of life at the molecular level. Sociology:-
Sociology, the study of human society, is a broadly based liberal arts and research discipline — one of the most diversified, interesting, and practical disciplines there is. Sociologists are devoted to the study of social groups and processes, using applied logic in combination with empirical research to ascertain “what is” and “what can be.”

We believe that it is the task of sociologists to conduct critical public debate about social institutions. We seek to contribute to that debate and equip our students with the skills to do so too.

Our Sociology major will give you extensive knowledge of the key social factors affecting human behaviour and also develop your skills in designing and evaluating research. Sociology students develop many skills including:

The BBA provides students with a demanding and engaging learning experience. In Years 1 and 2, they receive a strong grounding in the humanities and social sciences as well as the core business or business-related subjects.

In Years 3 and 4, students complete the core including the capstone course in business strategy in their final semester. Students also specialize in one of the functional areas of business. These majors prepare students to pursue a professional designation after graduation and provide the extensive course work needed to meet the competencies established by the profession. Students interested in economics can also specialize in that discipline, or those who want to take a variety of courses from different business disciplines or economics can choose the General BBA.

During their studies, students receive quality instruction from accomplished academics and business practitioners who engage in scholarship to remain current in their fields. Case studies, class presentations, guest speakers, field trips, company reports, simulations, and business competitions are used extensively to enhance the student’s learning experience.

Developed with police and other justice agencies, this two-year program will prepare you for the challenges of a career in policing, as well as in corrections, parole, customs, and other government services at the federal, provincial or municipal levels. Your diploma credits count towards completion of an arts, business or criminology degree.

The International Business Major prepares students for positions as managers and entrepreneurs in the global economy. Program graduates may work as directors in an international subsidiary of a major multinational corporation or as overseas sales representatives or product managers. Those with backgrounds in finance may find work as loans officers for the Export Development Corporation (EDC) or as financial analysts with the global investing unit of a major financial institution.
