Human Resource Management Specialization
Despite today's technologies, people are still the center of an organization. From its president to an entry-level employee, a business success rides on the vision, direction, and spirit that its employees provide. In the human resource management (HRM) program at TWU, you'll learn how to: motivate employees, create empowering work environments, develop and implement policies and procedures, design the structure of an organization, and plan for the workforce of the future.

The video game industry is massive and global, earning over $40 billion in the US alone last year. Market trends show it will continue to be a major employer of well-paid, highly skilled professionals.

Our unique Game Development program is unlike any other program. You will gain the technical skills you need to develop video games and knowledge about the entrepreneurial aspects of the business—all while gaining experience and developing your specialization in a range of team-based activities.

Beginning as early as your second year, you will work on three intensive projects to create and market video games. As in the industry, you will work within an entrepreneurial and interdisciplinary team environment to drive the projects from concept stage to promotion - creating business models and monitoring costs and revenues. In addition to building your portfolio through experiential learning, TWU’s liberal arts core and focus on holistic education will equip you to be a valuable contributor and leader in your field.

Examining the deeper motivations of human behaviour and understanding how you can impact people’s lives is part of the dynamic field of psychology.

Through systematic observation and research in our Psychology program, you will gain an understanding of human experience. As a student, you will explore all aspects of human behaviour and the thoughts, feelings, and motivations that underlie that behaviour, helping you to better understand people and how you can positively influence them.

Using a Christian worldview as the basis of interpretation, faculty members encourage you to investigate principles derived from research that apply to areas such as work, love, leisure, family, sexuality, value and meaning, spirituality, and relationships. Through a variety of teaching styles, off-campus trips, unique guests, travel studies, and retreat courses, your professors equip you to explore your faith and question your world.

Mathematics is the language and enabler of science and technology, providing us with the necessary tools for analyzing economic trends, forecasting weather, doing research in the social sciences and other disciplines, and making informed business decisions.

As a student of mathematics, you will explore the many disciplines of pure and applied mathematics—logic, number theory, calculus, algebra, topology, analysis, modelling, and numeric methods. A degree in mathematics can lead you to many different careers options, including elementary teacher, scientific researcher, civil engineer, statistician, software developer, and economist.

In Political Studies, we consider the many ways in which we use power in human societies.

We examine the philosophic and practical aspects of the use and abuse of power, combining insights from both the humanities and social sciences. Our Political Studies program embraces both the social science and humanities aspects of political analysis, adding depth to your studies. As a student of political studies, you will deepen your understanding of political science and explore your rights and responsibilities as a citizen and Christian.

You will explore the organization of government and how this influences the amount and distribution of social and economic resources. In addition, you will develop an understanding of government institutions, legislative processes, foreign policy, international relations, and public law.

Our political studies program includes practicum courses, giving our students valuable experience. Our students have the option of studying at TWU’s Laurentian Leadership Centre and interning in Ottawa or at Parliament Hill, and participating in our Pre-Law Society or Model United Nations.

A geography degree offers students the opportunity to tackle complex human and environmental problems with a skill set that emphasizes a combination of knowledge-building, critical thinking, informed problem solving, interdisciplinary learning, geospatial technologies and analysis, and hands-on solutions to positively impact people’s quality of life and their environments.

Geographers work in a wide array of fields including community development and missions, urban and regional planning, population and statistical analysis, geographic information systems, computerized mapping and remote sensing, business, retail analysis and market research, environmental assessment and resource conservation, geophysical analysis, and natural science research. Graduates with geography degrees are in high demand. Significant employment opportunities exist within government, teaching, business, private sector consulting, and in non-governmental/non-profit organization. The reasons for this wide range of opportunities and the demand for trained geographers in the workplace are the unique spatial perspective, interdisciplinary skills, holistic approach, geospatial technologies, statistical analysis and other skills the geography graduate offers.

Chemistry is known as the central science, because it interacts with all other sciences, and it explains the world around us.

A degree in chemistry can lead to a career in environmental science, nanotechnology, materials chemistry, sustainable and green chemistry, biotechnology, or a medical discipline.

Through our degree program, you will acquire theoretical principles and the laboratory skills you need for a career in chemistry, or a related career in which chemistry is an asset or requirement. As part of your chemistry studies, you may make aspirin in your introductory chemistry lab or test the pond water for compounds important in water quality.

Whether learning how to synthesize molecules, solving molecular structures, understanding the physical basis of chemical bonding, or understanding how a metal works when forming a mineral structure or in a catalytic biological enzyme, each class offers key principles and real-world applications. You will be trained by faculty who are experts in their individual fields and eager to share that expertise by mentoring students.
