In this program, you will be introduced to economic history, its impact on society, and alternative ways of thinking about wealth, well-being, resources, stewardship, and sustainability.

In pursuing this major, you will choose either a General or Math & Economics stream. This major is taken as part of a Bachelor of Arts degree.

The Computing Science program at Augustana builds foundational knowledge in Python and Java to prepare you for further study in other programming languages, as well as the areas of software engineering, operating systems, computer organization and architecture, algorithms, databases, networks, parallel programming, and computing theory.

This major is taken as part of a Bachelor of Science degree. At Augustana, you can also take a Computing Science major as part of a Bachelor of Arts degree.

This combined degree allows you to complete the first three years of your degree at Augustana, followed by two years on North Campus, in Edmonton. With this program, you will typically do your work experience placements in a rural or small-town school.

As part of this program you must choose a major and minor that can be taught as high school subjects.

Augustana’s Environmental Studies major integrates natural sciences, social sciences, and the humanities into one unique program taken as part of a Bachelor of Arts degree.

You will choose to pursue either a General or Outdoor Education stream, granting the opportunity to take an outdoor or experiential education component, including backpacking and canoeing throughout Alberta and the Northwest Territories or studying at our Miquelon Lake Research Station. As a result, you will be equipped to forge a connection to the physical environment, the people, and organisms impacted by our society.

Augustana also offers a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences (Interdisciplinary) degree.

The Environmental Science program at Augustana focuses on the natural sciences and offers an outdoor or experiential education component, giving you a connection to the physical environment, people, and organisms impacted by our society.

This major is taken as part of a Bachelor of Science degree.

The Computing Science program at Augustana builds foundational knowledge in Python and Java to prepare you for further study in other programming languages, as well as the areas of software engineering, operating systems, computer organization and architecture, algorithms, databases, networks, parallel programming, and computing theory.

This major is taken as part of a Bachelor of Arts degree. Computing Science can also be taken as part of a Bachelor of Science degree. The BA program does not require the same supporting courses in the other sciences as the BSc program.

This program provides a strong foundation in both the history and practice of visual art. It is particularly suited for students who are in the early stages of their artistic development or who have no formal background in art. Submission of a portfolio is not a requirement to apply to this program, and you can choose to focus in either studio practice or art history.

Our English major provides you with an overview of canonical and alternative literature and critical writing that is at once broad and deep. Our smaller class sizes ensure lively and engaging discussion in the classroom, ready access to professors, and plenty of room to explore and grow. You’ll emerge with an appreciation of literature, stronger writing and communications skills, and critical-thinking abilities that will serve you in all aspects of life.

The Physical Education program at Augustana provides a solid foundation in the areas of health sciences, education, sport, and wellness. Within this program you will choose between the Outdoor Education or Kinesiology & Sport Studies streams.

Outdoor Education stream:
Learn the ways of the Friluftsliv life! The Outdoor Education stream gives you a strong theoretical foundation in outdoor education and environmental studies as well as excellent wilderness travel and leadership skills. This program includes a diverse range of theory courses, activity courses, field studies, and expeditions — a unique mix that you won’t find anywhere else!

Kinesiology & Sport Studies stream:
This stream provides you with a broad base of knowledge in physical education, drawing from a liberal arts and sciences core curriculum, and includes both theory courses and activity courses. Specialized knowledge gained in this stream includes: growth and structure of the human body, effective and efficient movement of the body, the edge between performance and injury, and critical engagement in historical trends and development.

Political science is the study of power and governance. You will have the opportunity to learn from award-winning teachers and leading international researchers who will challenge you to think broadly about power and the responsibilities of engaged citizenship. Through innovative teaching methods, such as participating in simulations and student-driven research projects, you will gain the necessary knowledge to apply to social problems in Canada and around the world. Courses include democracy, citizenship, and law; municipal, provincial, and federal (Canadian) politics; politics of gender and health; and international politics

This major can also be taken as part of a BA Honors degree.
