About the International Management Major

• As a major in international management, you'll learn about cross-cultural management practices and how work behaviour differs throughout the world. You will also study global aspects of business, trade, marketing, finance and economic systems, develop fluency in a second language, and gain cross-cultural experience. You'll hone the skills needed to meet the challenges of doing business internationally and build a network of personal contacts across the globe.
• Some of the topics included in this major are: international management, introduction to international management, global financial management, cross-cultural management practices, industrial location & globalization of enterprise, management in world history, cross-cultural marketing, the politics of Canadian trade policy, issues in international management, regional aspects of international management, law & institutions of international trade, sustainable tourism, environmental management, and cultural work study. Students draw from fields such as history, English, political science, economics and sociology.

Computer science is the study of algorithms and data structures and their applications in designing new and efficient solutions to industrial, technological, environmental or social problems.

Learn to tackle difficult problems using a variety of high-tech tools and approaches, and effectively communicate your expertise to others by coupling your technical learning with a solid grounding in liberal education. The program is designed to enable you gain both theoretical knowledge and practical experience, including access to state-of-the-art hardware and software in our three computer labs whenever you need to use them.

History as an academic discipline examines the past to explain how we got to where we are today. We live in a world that is politically, economically, and socially complex; to engage it effectively and better understand ourselves, we must first understand the many historical factors that shape our lives. Historians work to sharpen the collective memory of society.

As a history student, you’ll learn about great leaders of the past and what ordinary people believed and valued - how they lived, worshipped, worked, fought and died. You’ll have the opportunity to take thematic and regional courses in ancient, medieval and modern history from the geographic areas that shaped our world today.

The Post-Bachelor Combined Certificates in Accounting allow you to take both the Post-Bachelor Certificate in Accounting Fundamentals and the Post-Bachelor Certificate in Advanced Accounting in one program. With the Post-Bachelor Combined Certificates in Accounting, you’ll build on your existing degree, no matter the discipline, and progress to advanced level coursework that can advance your career or prepare you for entry into the CPA Professional Education Program.

The 16-course combined certificates take two years to complete on a full-time basis and provide eligibility for co-operative education.

Statistics is the study of the collection, organization, analysis, interpretation and presentation of data. In a world that is increasingly data-driven, knowing how to extract and interpret information is key. Statistics help evaluate ideas, test hypotheses and give clarity to complex issues.

If your passion is the environment, statisticians help manage our natural resources and understand the impact of climate change. If your passion is public policy, statisticians work with governments and non-governmental organizations to measure the health of the economy and assess the effectiveness of programs. If your passion is sports, statisticians help improve teams through player drafting, signing and development. No matter where your passion lies, you are likely to find statisticians active in that area.

The major in applied statistics is structured to provide a firm theoretical background in statistics and to allow you to apply specific statistical techniques within your discipline of interest. The program has three possible concentrations:

• Economics
• Geography
• Psychology

Each of these disciplines makes extensive use of statistics in the analysis of real-world data. Students in this major and any chosen concentration will learn about statistical resources and benefit from training across multiple departments.

Economics is a behavioural science that studies the conditions under which individuals provide the best possible satisfaction of their needs. It is not specifically about money, things or material objects - it’s about the consequences of individual decisions made under conditions of scarcity.

Everybody thinks of and deals with economics whether they are aware of it or not. It concerns everybody and everything, transcending time and space, and is at the core of our civilization and human existence. It is a means of looking at all human interaction, regardless of culture, race or gender.

As an economics student, you will gain a deep understanding of the decision making process at the individual, firm or government level. You will learn how unhampered market processes lead to efficient production of goods and services, and the effects of interfering with these processes.

You will deal with a variety of topics, such as the comparison of economic systems, the economics of marriage and family, as well as banking and private property rights. You’ll also delve into current concerns like employment, inflation, government bailouts, the national debt, nonrenewable resources, agriculture and the environment.

Marketing, a combination of art and science, is the core of any business. It helps identify consumer needs; guides the development of new products, services or communications strategies, ensuring products and services are available where and when consumers want them; determines prices; and has the ability to adjust all of these for domestic and international markets. Almost one-third of North Americans are employed in marketing or marketing-related positions.

Marketers themselves are the crucial link between an organization, their suppliers and their end-users, building relationships that benefit all parties. Marketers must have a strong understanding of the customer, whether an individual or an organization so they can effectively advise on all aspects of marketing.

The Indigenous Art program prepares you for success in the complex and evolving fields of Indigenous art history and contemporary art practices. Combine critical studies in art history and theory with extensive hands-on museum and gallery experience. Study visual, material, and cultural production from a global perspective, and develop a frame of reference for understanding imagery and material culture.

Gain a deeper knowledge of historical and contemporary art practices through your studies and your work with the University’s extensive art collection of more than 16,000 objects, learning to manage and conserve artwork and curate exhibitions.
