Astronomy and astrophysics examine the universe, galaxies and stars as well as phenomena such as the birth of stars, how explosions of stars create fast moving cosmic ray particles and pulsars, and how the rotation of a galaxy reveals the presence of dark matter. A planetarium and two astronomical observatories enhance this program.  

The Bachelor of Environmental Design program is a strong multidisciplinary undergraduate degree that provides a solid base of design education for students intending to pursue careers or graduate studies in a wide variety of disciplines, including the Faculty's master's degrees in Architecture, City Planning, Interior Design and Landscape Architecture, and at other institutions globally.

The Bachelor of Environmental Design Degree (BEnvD) is a four-year program consisting of two years of common foundation studies, followed by two years of pre-professional intermediate studies in one of three areas of focus: Architecture, Interior Environments, or Landscape + Urbanism.

Years 1 and 2 of the program provide a solid grounding in the basic knowledge and language shared by all of the environmental design disciplines. Students come to understand the holistic nature of environmental design and, at an early stage, begin to establish a rich and multidisciplinary dialogue with their peers, while discovering strengths and interests relating to a particular design discipline. Years 3 and 4 provide opportunities to be challenged by academic and professional design theories and practices specific to one of three particular disciplines:

• Architecture
• Interior environments
• Landscape + urbanism

The Cooperative Education/Integrated Work Program provides practical experience, assistance in financing your education, and guidance for future career specialization. Semester-long exchange programs and field trips from one day to three weeks in length will expand your perspective and help you see the world in new ways.

The Bachelor of Recreation Management and Community Development combines a strong theoretical framework with practical experiences to help students learn about community development, sport and event management, sustainable tourism and environmental management.

Biotechnology is the application of the principles of chemistry, biochemistry and microbiology to the development of new technologies. Both Microbiology and Chemistry share in the teaching and administration of the program, The cooperative work-study (co-op) programs provide experience in government, private sector and research laboratories.

It examines both the past and the present from political, economic, social and cultural disciplinary perspectives. Courses that focus on Canada in the Faculty of Arts are drawn from Anthropology, Economics, English, French, History, Icelandic, Labour Studies, Political Studies, Religion, Slavic Studies and Sociology. In addition, certain courses in other faculties including Art History and Geography and Environment, are also available form Canadian Studies credit.

Marketing involves learning about and understanding consumers, and then developing and implementing a plan that delivers products and services that meet the needs of both the consumer and producer. A marketing professional is also involved in setting the prices for the product or service, deciding where and how it will be sold, and how it will be promoted. 

Students who major in marketing soon discover that this exciting field encompasses much more than sales and advertising. They learn about marketing research, consumer behaviour, branding, international marketing, and marketing of social issues.

The Geological Sciences or Earth Sciences are multidisciplinary sciences that apply principles from many different fields to deal with all aspects of the solid Earth and its interactions with the hydrosphere, atmosphere, biosphere and Solar System. Quantitative data is provided through fieldwork, laboratory analysis and theoretical modeling for understanding the physical, chemical and biological behaviour and characteristics of Earth materials – rocks, minerals, fossils, liquids and gases. Once the nature and extent of the Earth’s natural evolution is understood and quantified, as well as the more recent environmental impact of human activity, they can help tackle many resource extraction, mineral processing and environmental problems, and predict future changes to the Earth.

Students who obtain a major in Indigenous Business Studies complemented with any other Asper major will have a competitive advantage when they seek employment. This major is open to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students.

Mechanical engineering is the use of principles of mechanics, materials and energy to design machines and processes. The Mechanical Engineering program allows great flexibility and choice with an Aerospace Option and Manufacturing Option, and specialties in energy systems, advanced materials and solid mechanics.
