The Theatre Program in the Department of English, Film, and Theatre is focused yet multi-faceted, offering both creative and intellectual opportunities. An intensive, hands-on experience in every aspect of play creation is a hallmark of University of Manitoba Theatre. The interrelationship between the academic program and the Black Hole Theatre Company provides students with excellent balance in the creation and interpretation of theatre. We provide instruction in theoretical approaches and critical and practical methods. Both Film and Theatre courses offer options for studying performance, production, and interpretation.

English Literature courses cover literature from the medieval period to the present and provide instruction in theoretical approaches and critical methods. The program not only introduces students to an array of literary genres but also develops their creative and interpretive capabilities. The aim is to provide comprehensive historical coverage, to expand students' writing skills, and to promote the kind of analysis and argumentation that enables them to express their ideas clearly and effectively. The program also offers courses in Creative Writing.

Engineering uses the principles of math and science to find practical solutions to problems or needs. Engineers develop the technological tools that enable us to live better lives (computer chips, hydro dams, artificial limbs, etc.). Though the field of engineering is diverse the skill set one needs in areas such as biology, water resource management, environmental protection and computing systems are common. Basic sciences, engineering sciences, math, and engineering design are only the foundation courses. An engineering education is much broader. Some have called it the "liberal arts" of the 21st century!

Political Studies examines the dynamics of human interaction in which individuals and groups compete, and cooperate, to achieve their goals, in the context of competing visions, values and interests. It is therefore a study of power, particularly in connection with law and public policy. Because people often disagree about, say, civil liberties, sustainable development, and distributive justice, they divide themselves into various groups: nations, political parties, trade unions, business associations, environmental organizations, to mention but a few. Political studies tries to understand what happens when individuals and groups struggle with one another to achieve their different goals. Within states there are mechanisms called governments to oversee and guide political struggle, and studying politics can help us better appreciate why various types of government behave the way they do.

Learn to make the right business decisions when it comes to financing and investing. Studying finance will give you a keen understanding of how financial institutions approach the trade.

With Asper’s hybrid teaching model, you’ll apply finance theory to real-world issues and graduate with the skills necessary for a successful career in finance. Completing your BComm (Hons) with a finance major will help you recognize the importance of understanding financial concepts for the success of any business.

The University of Manitoba’s Italian program allows students to master the Italian language and acquire cultural knowledge. An emphasis is placed on language skills as well as in inter-cultural skills.

Interesting courses and unique opportunities

• The Italian courses offered at the University of Manitoba not only teach grammar and contemporary literature but also touch upon Italian culture and history. In-class opportunities for conversation and comprehension are abundant and designed to facilitate practical experience in using the language.
• Guest lecturers are brought in to speak on a variety of subjects, and there are frequent film showings.

The Diploma in Dental Hygiene is a 3-year program that prepares students to work as dental hygienists in a variety of employment settings. Dental hygiene is a self-regulated health service profession concerned primarily with the prevention of oral disease and the promotion of optimum oral health. As a licensed professional, the dental hygienists' scope of practice is regulated by provincial legislation. The dental hygiene process of care consists of five components: assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate, which guide dental hygiene practice in every setting. Dental hygienists work in private dental offices, community health centres, educational institutions, personal care homes and various other environments.

The Labour Studies Program explains the issues that shape our world: globalization, social and economic equality, power and resistance. We explore how the workplace has changed, why workers organize, and what ordinary people can do about social injustice. We ground theory in practice, with strategies for exercising your rights at work, improving your working conditions, and getting the respect to which all are entitled. Labour Studies provides essential tools and basic knowledge for teachers, union activists, managers, worker advocates, human resource managers, and all working people.

Animal Systems focuses on the nutrition, management and welfare of livestock and poultry. Animal science professionals are committed to devising innovative solutions to the challenges posed by a growing world population, shifting diet patterns, limited resources, and changing climatic conditions.

The Bachelor of Science (Agriculture) in Animal Systems provides students with a firm understanding of animal production, including genetics, anatomy/physiology, nutrition, health and reproduction. It also provides courses in business management and communications.

Co-op Options
The Cooperative Education option integrates the student’s academic study with practical work experience in industry, government and the farming profession. To obtain the co-op designation, you must complete three 4-month work terms. Two of these can be during the summer. This program option will extend your degree time by one semester (slightly longer if you take more work terms in winter).

The specialized Athletic Therapy program within the Bachelor of Kinesiology four-year degree prepares students to work in the prevention, immediate careand rehabilitation of musculo-skeletal injuries.
