The Diploma in Art is essentially technical in nature. The interdisciplinary studio-based learning experience gives students a hands-on training in an art studio setting and introduces them to possible careers and education pathways in the arts and culture sector. Psychology is the scientific study of behaviour and mental processes. It is also the profession that applies the accumulated knowledge of this science to practical problems. Psychologists and their work can be classified into three general categories: Research Psychology, Applied Psychology, and Clinical/Counselling Psychology. Bachelor of Arts programs in psychology offer comprehensive training that will provide an essential foundation for pursuing careers within any of these three areas.

The Interdisciplinary Health Program offers education and training leading to a Bachelor of Health Studies degree. The Interdisciplinary Health Program (IHP) is a joint program between the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences in partnership with the Faculties of Arts and Science. Classes take place at the Fort Garry campus.

Our program focuses on health promotion. Students gain an understanding of the determinants of optimum health and well-being and the actions and circumstances that maintain those conditions. Health and wellness are understood in the context of the individual, the community and society with a particular focus on Manitoba and its peoples. 

The BHSt program requires the completion of 120 credit hours of required and elective coursework; this includes a minimum of 18 credit hours of concentration electives. Students must declare at least one concentration.

Concentrations

• Health Policy, Planning and Evaluation
  • This concentration provides foundational knowledge related to health policy development and related evaluation, and programming services. This can be a potential route for individuals seeking careers in areas such as health policy analysis or program planning and evaluation coordination.
• Health Promotion and Education
  • This concentration would be a route through which students pursuing a career as a home economics teacher could obtain their ‘teachable subjects’ in family studies and nutrition. Students should consult with academic advisors in the Faculty of Education as additional training will be required.
  • Students who pursue this concentration can also explore future career opportunities as community health educators, health-related fundraisers, health and safety coordinators, or professional home economists (PHEc).
• Family Health
  • This concentration is suitable for students interested in family social science. It provides the educational background suitable for a future career as a community wellness worker, victim services worker, youth care worker and residential care manager.
     

The actuarial profession involves the application of mathematical disciplines; particularly probability, statistics and risk theory, to real life financial problems involving future uncertainty. The analysis involved helps people and organizations plan for and reduce financial risk in diverse areas such as life, health, disability, property and casualty insurance, annuities, pension plans and employee benefit plans.

Flexibility
Students in the Actuarial Studies major:  

• Are required to take the same business core courses as in other majors providing the opportunity to study other business-related areas   
• Can take as little as four actuarial courses to claim their major in actuarial mathematics
• Are able to pursue a double major in actuarial mathematics and a second subject if they choose
• Have access to the business library that provides updated study materials that help students prepare for professional actuarial exams

Chemistry is the science concerned with the properties of atoms and molecules, of which all matter is composed. Chemistry is important for all aspects of the material world - food production; the manufacture of medicines, textiles, and plastics; energy production; identifying environmental problems and remedies; and understanding the workings of living organisms. The Honours and cooperative work-study (co-op) programs provide experience in government, private sector and research laboratories.

This program is designed to be multi-disciplinary. As well as taking introductory courses in four disciplines (Native Studies, Political Studies, Economics, and Business) students are required to take courses in four theme areas: Political Governance, Aboriginal Business and Economics, Traditional Knowledge, and Business. At the same time, students have enough flexibility in elective courses to tailor a program to fit their own needs and interests. This program can be taught on campus, or in a community setting.

Geophysicists use the principles of physics and mathematics to study the Earth’s surface, internal structure and composition, atmosphere and magnetosphere. The many overlapping fields in Geophysics include: Earthquake Seismology, Exploration Seismology, Electromagnetic Geophysics, Gravity and Magnetic Geophysics, Geodesy, Geomagnetism as well as Geodynamics and High-Pressure Geophysics.

The Bachelor of Environmental Design program is a strong multidisciplinary undergraduate degree that provides a solid base of design education for students intending to pursue careers or graduate studies in a wide variety of disciplines, including the Faculty's master's degrees in Architecture, City Planning, Interior Design and Landscape Architecture, and at other institutions globally.

The Bachelor of Environmental Design Degree (BEnvD) is a four-year program consisting of two years of common foundation studies, followed by two years of pre-professional intermediate studies in one of three areas of focus: Architecture, Interior Environments, or Landscape + Urbanism.

Years 1 and 2 of the program provide a solid grounding in the basic knowledge and language shared by all of the environmental design disciplines. Students come to understand the holistic nature of environmental design and, at an early stage, begin to establish a rich and multidisciplinary dialogue with their peers, while discovering strengths and interests relating to a particular design discipline. Years 3 and 4 provide opportunities to be challenged by academic and professional design theories and practices specific to one of three particular disciplines:

The Cooperative Education/Integrated Work Program provides practical experience, assistance in financing your education, and guidance for future career specialization.
