Geological engineers merge earth sciences with engineering principles to determine what lies underground. Working primarily in the mining and mineral extraction sectors, geological engineers oversee the stability and safety of mines and of drilling sites, particularly of oil and natural gas wells.

This includes:

• Stabilizing the site against landslides and other ecological disasters
• Protecting groundwater supplies from contamination
• Ensuring all work is conducted in an environmentally sustainable way

From emergency care for premature babies with immature lungs, to ongoing treatment for people with chronic diseases such as cystic fibrosis, asthma and emphysema, respiratory therapists play an important role in lifelong health.

Respiratory therapists can be found throughout the health care system, such as:

• Public health clinics
• Home care services
• Research labs within universities
• Private sector corporations
• Equipment and pharmaceutical sales
• Air quality testing facilities

Open doors

• A respiratory therapy degree can also open doors around the world. Health care providers in developing countries actively recruit Canadian graduates to help develop health care facilities and programs abroad.
• Following completion of the BHS (Respiratory Therapy) students may pursue further training in the specialized treatment areas of perfusion technology, sleep medicine, neonatal or pediatric care and anaesthesia assistant.

The Mathematics program on the Saint John campus is available as a major and minor option as part of a Bachelor of Science degree as well as part of a Bachelor of Arts degree. Additionally, there is a major in Mathematics and Economics option as part of a Bachelor of Science degree and there is a Certificate in Mathematics for Education.

We offer a range of courses in French Canadian literature, cinema, and culture, with an emphasis on Acadian and Québécois writers, as well as other Francophone literatures (i.e. France, Belgium, etc.).

Our linguistics courses explore the various expressions across French Canada. We also emphasize the phenomenon of human communication and how language shapes experience.

The beauty of statistics is that it can be combined with virtually any other discipline, whether its science, medicine, computer science, sports, finance or engineering. As the awareness of the importance of statistics continues to grow, so does the demand for statisticians and statistical expertise.

At UNB Saint John we offer general introductory statistics courses covering the core elements of statistics, specialized introductory statistics courses as well as third and fourth year courses designed to fit the needs of students working on major projects, heading to graduate school or looking for employment in the industry.
