Mathematics puts our world in order. Arts students may major or minor in Mathematics, studying calculus, geometry, algebra, statistics and mathematical theory. Good healthcare requires more than doctors and nurses. It involves managing large budgets, finding ways to reduce long wait times in emergency rooms, making sure there are adequate supplies of vaccines and other medicines available when they are needed, and recruiting, hiring and managing the workforce of a hospital, nursing home, or community health clinic. It also includes activities like overseeing the health and safety of employees at a manufacturing plant, planning effective public health education campaigns about the health risks of vaping, and connecting the manufacturers of new medical devices with the surgeons who will use them. 

What all of these activities have in common is that they require management skills: financial management; human resources management; strategic planning; marketing; understanding of how organizations function, and how they can work better. These skills are in high demand in New Brunswick and elsewhere.

The Bachelor of Health – Management in Health Major is a 4-year interdisciplinary program offering a solid training in management with a focus on the health sector. All Bachelor of Health students complete core courses covering the biological and social determinants of health, current health issues, health policy, the management of healthcare services, and data analysis.

In addition to the core Health courses taken each year, Management in Health majors take a series of required and elective courses which develop the business skills necessary in the operation of various types of organizations in the health sector. The program is also comprehensive preparation for further professional or graduate studies.

UNB Saint John offers one of the few Bachelor’s degrees in healthcare management in Canada. Our program provides students with a solid grounding in health and wellness in all its dimensions, as well as in-depth training in their chosen major in healthcare management.

Hands-on learning

Bachelor of Health students experience a variety of work settings in the healthcare system and in the community through job-shadowing and internships. 

In the fourth year capstone course, students from all three majors (Health and Society, Management in Health, and Biomedical Sciences and Health) come together to work in multidisciplinary teams to analyze and address a critical health issue identified in consultation with experts in the healthcare sector.

As a Bachelor of Information Sciences (B.I.Sc.) graduate, you will learn how to establish programs to collect and analyze data, which will better equip people to function within their work environments.

The interdisciplinary B.I.Sc. program at University of New Brunswick Saint John draws upon business administration, mathematics, computer science, and economics, with a focus on the methods and techniques for effective collection and analysis of data.

You can choose a specialization which will allow you to concentrate on your areas of interest and application:

• Decision and Business Management
• Decision and Systems Science.

Geological engineers merge earth sciences with engineering principles to determine what lies underground. Working primarily in the mining and mineral extraction sectors, geological engineers oversee the stability and safety of mines and of drilling sites, particularly of oil and natural gas wells.

This includes:

• Stabilizing the site against landslides and other ecological disasters
• Protecting groundwater supplies from contamination
• Ensuring all work is conducted in an environmentally sustainable way

Biology is the study of life. At UNB Saint John, Arts students can major in Biology, studying botany, ecology, zoology, organic chemistry and microbiology. You will be able to explore the world of environmental science, sustainable development and public policies towards land and water use.

In your first year you will take introductory studies in organic chemistry, ecology cells and organisms and biology lab work. In second year you will add botany, microbiology, zoology and statistics to your course work and at the end of the year you may apply to major in Biology. Upper-level studies in Biology may include conservation biology, environmental law and animal behaviour.

Your biology degree will teach you to analyze how living things work and interact with other organisms. You will learn to think critically and solve problems through observation and evaluation.

The Pre-MBA Program is full-time, intensive, non-credit program offered by Saint John College and UNB Saint John's Master of Business Administration program. It is designed to help international students bridge the gap between their undergraduate education, work experience and the entry requirements of UNB Saint John's MBA program.

The Pre-MBA program is designed for international students who have been conditionally accepted to the UNB Saint John MBA Program but who need to increase their level of English language ability and/or gain work experience.

The Mathematics program on the Saint John campus is available as a major and minor option as part of a Bachelor of Science degree as well as part of a Bachelor of Arts degree. Additionally, there is a major in Mathematics and Economics option as part of a Bachelor of Science degree and there is a Certificate in Mathematics for Education.

The size of UNB Saint John provides students with the opportunity to benefit from the small class sizes while still having a range of interesting courses from which to choose. As an upper year undergraduate student there are opportunities to be a teaching assistant marking assignments, to be a tutor in the Flora Beckett Math and Science Help Centre helping first year students, or to work on a summer research project with a faculty member.

global technological evolution is underway and computer scientists are designing and implementing the computer systems that are the bedrock of the modern world.

The BScCS is a four-year degree program providing students with a solid foundation in core areas of computing recognized by the Canadian Information Processing Society. The program prepares students for a wide variety of careers in traditional and emerging fields in computing. Alongside core courses a targeted range of elective courses are offered through which students have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge in specific areas of computing or in complementary disciplines.

Students may choose to specialize in one of the following disciplines: software engineering, or computer networking.
