The University of New Brunswick Saint John's Bachelor of Applied Management Ecommerce (BAMEC) program complements technical and programming skills gained through a college education with university-level studies on how business is conducted in the new economy.
Gain a comprehensive understanding of how technical and business issues relate to e-commerce and the information economy, and you will gain a competitive edge over your fellow college graduates in business technology.

In BAMEC you will further your technical knowledge and expertise through courses that explore the application and evolution of Wi-Fi networks, E-learning in corporate settings, E-health networks, and various other virtual learning environments.

Linguistics courses offer insights into the relationship between the brain, mind and language. By studying linguistics, you’ll gain the skills and knowledge to understand foreign languages and the difficulties foreign students encounter in English and French. 

Linguistic courses complement programs in Education, English, Languages, Psychology, Philosophy, Social Science, and Computer Science. Linguistics is a requirement for Speech Therapy, TESL, and other programs related to language processing and language engineering.

The Faculty of Science, Applied Science and Engineering is the home of the Chemistry department in Saint John and is located on the top floor of William F. Ganong Hall.

Chemistry is the study of atoms, molecules and their interactions. It is often described as the central science because studies in biology, geology and physics examine the gross behaviour of materials which is a reflection of what is occurring at the molecular level.

Civil engineers design, construct and maintain all types of buildings and transportation systems.

That’s an extensive list that includes office towers, highways, airports, canals, bridges, industrial plants, water and sewage treatment systems, hydroelectric developments and irrigation systems.

Many civil engineers find career opportunities in environmental management areas very rewarding.

Electrical engineers oversee the production, transmission and use of electricity.

That includes everything from managing large power grids that deliver electricity to designing microprocessors for computers and other electric devices.

With the many applications of electricity, the areas of specialization are wide-ranging:

The Faculty of Engineering offers a program leading to a Diploma in Technology Management and Entrepreneurship, administered by the Dr. J. Herbert Smith/ACOA Chair. The mission of the program is to provide undergraduate and continuing education students opportunities to experience the realities of entrepreneurship and management in technology-based businesses and to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in business. The Diploma program consists of three core courses and two electives, totalling 15 credit hours. In selecting courses, students will be advised to develop a curriculum that builds skills in three key areas: business management, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy.

Up to twelve credit hours of required courses for the TME diploma can be shared as credit towards a degree. Each department shall determine its own maximum allowable concurrent credit hours, which may be less than, but no greater than twelve credit hours. Students who intend to complete the diploma must obtain both department and TME program approval of the courses which will be applied towards the degree and the diploma.

Applicants are encouraged to apply to the program as early as their first year of study and begin by taking elective courses. A minimum of 80 credit hours completed, or permission of the TME program Chair, is required to enroll in TME core courses.  Applicants who are not full-time students may still apply for the TME Diploma (or enroll in one or more TME courses). These applicants may be requested to submit the following documents along with their TME Diploma Application:

Good healthcare requires more than doctors and nurses. It involves managing large budgets, finding ways to reduce long wait times in emergency rooms, making sure there are adequate supplies of vaccines and other medicines available when they are needed, and recruiting, hiring and managing the workforce of a hospital, nursing home, or community health clinic. It also includes activities like overseeing the health and safety of employees at a manufacturing plant, planning effective public health education campaigns about the health risks of vaping, and connecting the manufacturers of new medical devices with the surgeons who will use them. 

What all of these activities have in common is that they require management skills: financial management; human resources management; strategic planning; marketing; understanding of how organizations function, and how they can work better. These skills are in high demand in New Brunswick and elsewhere.

The Bachelor of Health – Management in Health Major is a 4-year interdisciplinary program offering a solid training in management with a focus on the health sector. All Bachelor of Health students complete core courses covering the biological and social determinants of health, current health issues, health policy, the management of healthcare services, and data analysis.

In addition to the core Health courses taken each year, Management in Health majors take a series of required and elective courses which develop the business skills necessary in the operation of various types of organizations in the health sector. The program is also comprehensive preparation for further professional or graduate studies.

UNB Saint John offers one of the few Bachelor’s degrees in healthcare management in Canada. Our program provides students with a solid grounding in health and wellness in all its dimensions, as well as in-depth training in their chosen major in healthcare management.

Hands-on learning

Bachelor of Health students experience a variety of work settings in the healthcare system and in the community through job-shadowing and internships. 

In the fourth year capstone course, students from all three majors (Health and Society, Management in Health, and Biomedical Sciences and Health) come together to work in multidisciplinary teams to analyze and address a critical health issue identified in consultation with experts in the healthcare sector.
