Master of Applied Science in Software Systems Engineering (Thesis-Based)

The four-year studio art program encourages individual artistic development by concentrating on studio practice. After a year and a half of work in a variety of studio areas, students will choose a concentration in: ceramics, drawing, intermedia, painting, printmaking, sculpture, or open studio which combines more than one of the areas. Art history courses, which place the studio practice in a historical and critical context, are combined with fine arts and liberal arts requirements, providing the necessary skills for graduates to pursue careers as artists, craftspeople, art dealers, gallery manager, museum/gallery educators, or technicians.

The Master of Public Administration (M.P.Adm., M.P.A., or MPA) is a professional post-graduate degree in public administration, similar to the Master of Business Administration but with an emphasis on the issues of governance. The Master of Public Administration (MPA) program, accredited by the Canadian Association of Programs in Public Administration (CAPPA), is designed to prepare students for careers in public administration and policy work in diverse areas such as non-government organizations, industry associations, and, of course, the public service. 

The Department of Computer Science offers programs of study involving interdepartmental, multi-institutional and inter-institutional collaboration that has attracted faculty members and graduate students from all over the world. Students may pursue full-time or part-time graduate study leading towards the MSc and PhD degrees.

The MSc and PhD degrees in Computer Science focus on four main areas of research: artificial intelligence; databases and information retrieval; graphics, image and audio processing; multimedia, and software engineering. Specifically, active research topics conducted by faculty members include, but are not limited to:

• Data mining, knowledge discovery and machine learning, Bayesian networks, rough set theory, uncertainty management, quantitative and temporal reasoning
• Graphical modeling and rendering algorithms, animation, image and signal processing, facial recognition, computational music and audio, information visualization, human computer interaction
• Information retrieval, cognitive informatics, Web intelligence and service, electronic commerce, database theory, and information theory and its applications in communications
• Language-based software security, data security, agent-oriented software engineering, software reuse, formal methods, and distance education
• Algorithm design and analysis, theory of computing, computational geometry, graph theory

MSc (Project Route)
A fully qualified student may complete a Master's project route by undertaking 21 credits of coursework and 9 credits of professionally oriented project research. The student must complete a project report to the satisfaction of his/her supervisor(s), and pass a project defense. In addition, the student is required to give two non-credit CS seminar presentations.

Software Systems Engineering’s objective is to train students to study, analyze, design and develop different software systems including web-based software systems, transaction-based systems, interactive multimedia systems, and management information systems, and to become knowledgeable in the process and life-cycle aspects of software development. The program also aims to teach students to apply computational theories to real-life programming techniques; analyze requirements; design, implement and test software systems; plan and manage software projects; solve technical problems; practice co-design and embedded systems construction.

The four-year Bachelor of Arts program in music is a liberal arts degree. It includes studies in the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences, with a focus on the study, analysis, and history of music. Graduates often pursue further degrees in library science, arts administration, or teaching at the secondary or university levels.

In the Bachelor of Kinesiology in Health Promotion program, you will gain a foundation in movement science and a background in the determinants of health, equity, diversity and inclusion, wellness, evaluation, and program delivery. You’ll learn how programs and policies, like housing, access to healthy food, and mental health supports, can affect health. In addition, you will learn how to assess, develop and implement programs that are designed to achieve specific health results.

Health promotion can be applied in all areas of society, including workplaces, schools, health care facilities, your personal life, and the community. This field is growing as workplaces and organizations recognize the importance of promoting health and wellbeing among their employees and members.

The health promotion bachelor’s degree program at the U of R will prepare you for a health career that has a positive impact on our world. Get career-ready with a 15-week, full-time fieldwork experience, applying what you learned from studying your major. This level of experience prior to degree completion is not common in other undergraduate kinesiology programs.

Activities include CAE, Facilities design, Quality control, Performance evaluation of manufacturing systems, Fatigue analysis, Vibration and noise analysis, Design and manufacturing of pressure vessels, Non-linear dynamics fracture mechanics, Modeling/simulation/ design/ implementation of robotic human powered , Sensor-based motion planning, Optimal control, Artificial Neural networks, Virtual reality, Artificial/Computational sapiens (wisdom), Metabotics, Greenhouse gas technology control including Solubility of gases in liquids, PVT studies, Mass transfer with chemical reactions, Kinetics, Corrosion and degradation, Calorimetry, Physical and transport properties measurements, Pilot plant design and operations, Fuel cells, Biomass, Modeling and simulation of industrial systems, Renewable energy studies dealing with wind and solar energies.

The University of Regina Department of English is a medium-sized department offering courses and research opportunities in most areas of English, American, and Canadian literatures. The size of its student body ensures that students have ample opportunity for intellectual discussion with their peers, but also the close contact with faculty members that larger institutions are unable to provide. The Department currently offers three routes for the MA in English: course-based, Creative Writing, and thesis-based. The course MA (ten courses) provides an opportunity to achieve a breadth of knowledge in many areas of English literature. The thesis MA (five courses plus thesis) provides an opportunity to do in-depth research, and an extended piece of writing, on one area of English literature. The Master's degree is normally the highest offered in the Department of English at the University of Regina, and affords the Department the opportunity for close support of Master’s students and high-priority supervision of Master's theses Both the thesis and course MA offer students excellent preparation for graduate studies at the doctoral level, or for jobs and careers in English. The Department of English is offering an MA in Creative Writing: this degree consists of five courses (in Creative Writing and English Literature/Theory), and a creative thesis with a critical/theoretical introduction.

The Master of Arts (MA) in Media Studies is a 30 credit hour program designed for advanced studies in cinema and media history, theory, and methods, emphasizing current concepts, issues, and trends. Avenues of exploration could include national and transnational cinemas, directors, genres, or other contemporary approaches (feminist, post-colonial, indigenous) across the full range of media such as dramatic, documentary, animation and experimental cinema; broadcast media; new media and interactive media. The program aims to develop broad expertise and critical thinking while enabling students to focus their interests through core courses in theory and methods, seminars, and specialized directed readings.
