The Department of Physics at the University of Regina offers programs leading to the B.Sc. and B.Sc. Honours degrees in Pure and Applied/Industrial Physics degrees in Experimental and Theoretical Subatomic Physics. Co-operative Education programs with local industry play an important role in our undergraduate degree programs.

The University is a member of the TRIUMF subatomic physics laboratory in Vancouver, and has a close relationship with the Jefferson Laboratory in Newport News, Virginia, USA. As of January 1, 2010, the University became a member of the Southeastern Universities Research Association. This honour was in recognition of two decades of productive research by U of R physicists at Jefferson Lab.

Research
Our programs offer experiential learning in the classroom and lab. Our students spend time at TRIUMF and the Jefferson Lab, gaining experience with large, experimental physics facilities. Undergraduates have the opportunity to do their own, independent research projects, learning alongside graduate students and experienced faculty, while our graduate students can build their skills working closely with supervisors who will guide and support their growth as researchers.

This concentration within the Bachelor of Arts, Media, Art and Performance Major, is designed for students interested in curatorial work. Students take specific Art History courses as well as selected Media, Art, and Performance courses. This program was developed to meet the demand of students and graduates for more training in this area.

The Department is engaged in a broad range of research in pure and applied mathematics and statistics, and offers programs leading to the MSc, and PhD degrees in mathematics or statistics. The MSc degrees normally requires two years of study, and students may chose either a course-based option or a thesis option for the research component of the degree.

The PhD program is an advanced, research-oriented course of study for which an original contribution to knowledge in the form of a dissertation is to be written and defended. The PhD program involves course work, comprehensive examinations, seminars, original research, and the defence of the dissertation.

Process Systems Engineering (PSEng) is a broad category of engineering that deals with the process design for the purpose of converting raw goods to usable end products, including energy. Process engineering looks at the entire process from Point A, which is a raw material, to Point Z, which is the desired end product. It does not necessarily deal with acquiring the raw base material, although knowledge of its acquisition is part of the U of R’s systems approach to teaching and research.

The Master of Indigenous Language Education degree aims to:

• Prepare students as leaders in Indigenous language acquisition and revitalization;
• Provide students with the required skills, knowledge, and competencies needed to become effective Indigenous language educators;
• Prepare students to conduct research with Indigenous peoples;
• Provide students with opportunities to learn, understand, and experience Indigenous knowledges, worldviews and perspectives; and
• Equip students with the competencies and abilities to integrate Indigenous languages and knowledge into school curricula.

Teachers, Indigenous language activists, and language and social policy makers currently working in elementary, secondary and post-secondary institutions (both off and on-reserve) as well as government, public and private sectors are the target groups for this program.

The Levene Master of Human Resource Management (MHRM) is a 30 credit hour program that can be completed in two years if taken full-time. The Levene MHRM enables you to become a positive force in your organization by building upon your human resource work experience with fundamental courses in training and development, labour relations, employee selection, organizational behaviour, health and safety, and compensation.

Co-operative Education Program 
For students who are entering the Master of Human Resource Management program in their early career with limited professional experience, Co-op work placements offer an opportunity to apply principles learned in class in a working environment.  Co-op students also gain valuable workplace experience proven to add value to the classroom experience for themselves and other students.  The Co-op route also provides an opportunity for early career MHRM students to secure management level jobs that they might not otherwise have access to.

Students in the Levene MBA with Specializations, MHRM or MAdmin programs may apply for admission to do Co-op. Students must have completed at least four classes, have no failing grades, and normally obtained a minimum CGPA of 75% before applying for co-op. You must also be a full time student in good standing. Graduate students will follow the same work term requirements pertaining to undergraduate students, such as length of terms, suitability of work placements, and codes of conduct.

The Teaching, Learning, Leadership (TLL) is a course-only Master's degree program that was designed by teachers for teachers. Nine out of the ten courses are designed to be taken in any order for maximum flexibility. All of the classes are offered online. Most are also offered face-to-face so students can opt to take all of their program online, or a combination of online and face-to-face. There is one foundational course in Curriculum and Instruction (EC&I 804) and Educational Leadership (EDL 819) to provide a broad overview of these two areas. There are 6 elective courses, enabling students choice.  Students can select elective courses to create a "specialty", for example, opting for leadership (EDL)  electives provides an in-depth experience in one particular area OR students can take a range of courses to suit their individual professional goals. Given the importance and relevancy of anti-oppressive and Indigenous education, the program template offers a suite of anti-oppressive and indigenous education classes, ensuring every student has a learning experience in this area. The final course is a capstone seminar class that will be a culminating experience to bring both a reflective and forward looking perspective to round out the coursework and look beyond this degree.

The four-year studio art program encourages individual artistic development by concentrating on studio practice. After a year and a half of work in a variety of studio areas, students will choose a concentration in: ceramics, drawing, intermedia, painting, printmaking, sculpture, or open studio which combines more than one of the areas. Art history courses, which place the studio practice in a historical and critical context, are combined with fine arts and liberal arts requirements, providing the necessary skills for graduates to pursue careers as artists, craftspeople, art dealers, gallery manager, museum/gallery educators, or technicians.
