Master of Arts in Music Theory (Thesis-Based)

The MA program in French and Francophone Intercultural Studies is designed for students interested in literature, language, translation, linguistics, terminology, applied linguistics, gender and cultural studies, and the history of ideas. The program covers French, Quebec, French-Canadian and postcolonial French literatures. For French-Canadian studies, collaboration with the Institut français, the Department of History, Women's Studies and the Canadian Plains Research Center (CPRC) and other units makes possible linguistic and cultural studies of French communities in Western Canada.

From human rights issues in foreign countries to working with at-risk youth, the Human Justice program fosters an in-depth understanding of criminal and restorative justice, social and economic justice, human rights and relevant human services. You will acquire skills in analytical and critical thinking and human service intervention. You will also take part in two semesters of professional experience in your second and fourth years of study.

The Master of Engineering degree program requires each student to complete a two semester project, and is oriented towards students desiring professional rather than academic careers. With careful planning and outside study, students may be able to quality for professional licensing in either Canada or the United States. The MEng complements the Graduate Cooperative Education Program which seeks to integrate the academic experience with professional, on-the-job experience to facilitate professional development. Students are encouraged to consult with APEGS in order to acquire the academic qualifications for registration as a P.Eng or an Engineer-In-Training in Saskatchewan.

Occupational therapy (OT) is the use of assessment and intervention to develop, recover, or maintain the meaningful activities, or occupations, of individuals, groups, or communities. It is an allied health profession performed by occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants (OTA). OTs often work with people with mental health problems, disabilities, injuries, or impairments.

Typically, occupational therapists are university-educated professionals and must pass a licensing exam to practice.Occupational therapists often work closely with professionals in physical therapy, speech therapy, audiology, nursing, social work, clinical psychology, medicine, and assistive technology.

The professional Master's option in Journalism is a 30 credit program to be completed over three semesters. It is not an academic track degree; rather it is designed to develop students' capacity for advanced journalistic investigation. Candidates will take a suite of core courses in the theory, history and methods of journalism as well as two advanced specialization options (in print, magazine, broadcast, documentary, international media, alternative media or photojournalism). An outside elective will draw on the resources of other departments and programs and will be related to students' professional capstone projects. In lieu of a thesis, their professional Master’s project will be completed under the supervision of an assigned faculty member. Long-form journalism proposals may include a film or radio documentary; a creative non-fiction or investigative series for magazine, newspaper or online publication; a publisher-ready book proposal and first chapter; a photo-journalism exhibit; or a community-based media project. Students will follow a rigorous and methodical process of research planning and investigation to produce journalism of publication / broadcast quality. Proposals must meaningfully advance the public interest.  Students will also participate in a Master's workshop, as they move from the conceptualization and investigation phases to the project production phase. The Department of Music’s MMus and MA degrees can lead to career opportunities in performance, education, library science, music publishing, media, and arts administration, among others. It also provides exciting potential for further studies at the doctoral level. Our programs promote study in areas as traditional or contemporary as you are, with individualized instruction, and excellent performance and rehearsal facilities. There is also ample opportunity to explore interdisciplinary studies with the other Media, Art, and Performance areas.

Master of Music (MMus) in Composition
This 30 credit hour program offers the opportunity for intensive individualized studies in Composition. Over four semesters, students create a portfolio of compositions for varying performance mediums, including one work of at least 12 minutes duration, accompanied by a written analytical commentary. All students also take graduate courses in critical theory in the fine arts, and in research techniques specific to music.

Actuarial Science is the application of mathematics, statistics, and risk theories to the design of insurance and pension programs.

Actuaries' areas of expertise are extensive and involve a wide range of business aspects such as operations research, finances, economics, investment analysis, analysis of medical risk, accounting, legal and regulatory aspects of insurance and pensions, among others. In other words, actuaries apply mathematical skills to the business environment, and they are experts in risk management. The actuarial profession offers continuous challenges and it requires a strong mathematical ability along with proficiency in various business skills. It is also a rewarding career with excellent opportunities for intellectual development and financial gain. The Actuarial Science Program provides students with a strong facility in actuarial methodology and applications. There is 12 month internship program that is also available to students.

Graduates from the Actuarial Science Program have close to 100% hiring success in the Actuarial Industry. The BSc in Actuarial Science is the only program of its kind in Saskatchewan, and it is one of only 11 programs nationally that are accredited by the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.

Research

These are just a couple exciting examples of potential careers with the women's and gender studies program. Women and gender studies is an interdisciplinary program that provides both social science and humanities perspectives. Explore the contribution women have made to history, politics and society, learn about feminist theories and methods, learn about gender, race and class issues, develop critical reading, writing and thinking skills and learn how to analyze complex social and cultural issues.

Software Systems Engineering’s objective is to train students to study, analyze, design and develop different software systems including web-based software systems, transaction-based systems, interactive multimedia systems, and management information systems, and to become knowledgeable in the process and life-cycle aspects of software development. The program also aims to teach students to apply computational theories to real-life programming techniques; analyze requirements; design, implement and test software systems; plan and manage software projects; solve technical problems; practice co-design and embedded systems construction.
