Master of Music in Performance - Voice - (Project-Based)

You will study the history, theory and analysis of motion pictures. You will also be introduced to the basics of film, video and new media production, including scriptwriting, directing, recording, editing, digital imaging and sound production.

The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) program focuses on studio art practice/production and its contextualization within contemporary practice and critical discourse. Students meet with studio faculty on an individual basis. Weekly seminars focus on art theory and criticism, professional issues and the development of individual research projects.

MFA students in Visual Arts are provided with well equipped studio spaces for six consecutive semesters and access to all department equipment and facilities including: the Fifth Parallel Student Gallery, the Dr. John Archer Library, the woodshop, graduate computer lab and the Visual Resource Centre.

The program is intentionally small (maximum of five students are accepted each year) in order to allow for intensive interaction between students and faculty. The department is comprised of eight studio professors and four art historians, all  of whom are active, practicing professionals. The department is also complemented by faculty from the First Nations University of Canada, Luther College and by other members of the Fine Arts Faculty.

The MFA program culminates with a solo exhibition at the MacKenzie Art Gallery - or another approved space approved by the supervisor and the Visual Arts graduate committee and is - supported by a comprehensive support paper. An oral defense conducted by an external examiner, a committee of Visual Arts faculty and the Dean of FGSR or designate completes the degree requirements.

Process Systems Engineering (PSEng) is a broad category of engineering that deals with the process design for the purpose of converting raw goods to usable end products, including energy. Process engineering looks at the entire process from Point A, which is a raw material, to Point Z, which is the desired end product. It does not necessarily deal with acquiring the raw base material, although knowledge of its acquisition is part of the U of R’s systems approach to teaching and research.

Mathematics is one of the oldest sciences. Although there are many applications of mathematics, the subject seeks to resolve questions whose answers will deepen our understanding of, and reveal new insights into, mathematics itself. The inherent structure and elegance of mathematics are features of the subject that are difficult to surpass in other sciences.

Mathematics also differs from other disciplines in that its advances come through the application of pure reason (by way of the human mind) rather than through observation (by way of scientific instrumentation). Consequently, mathematics builds upon its past achievements and develops independently of technological advancements.

Bachelor of Science in Mathematics
In this program, you will learn to be proficient in the uses of mathematics, especially calculus, matrix algebra, and differential equations. You will also be exposed to statistics, computer science, and higher level mathematical reasoning in the form of mathematical proof. Courses in number theory, abstract algebra, and optimization can be taken as part of this program.

Statistics is a data-driven science about how numbers help us understand the world, predict future events, and analyze information.

In this program, you will take courses in statistics and probability, as well as theoretical and applied courses. Statisticians at the bachelor of science level are needed in industry, government, and academics (colleges, technical schools). The Bachelor of Science in Statistics is also a pathway to graduate studies, which can lead to a variety of skilled careers such as a statistician or data scientist.

The Faculty of Social Work is committed to a graduate education program that will enhance the quality of individual and community well being.  Our focus is with the development of advanced social work intervention methods as well as with broader aspects and issues of service delivery, professional leadership, social policy analysis, and social welfare research.

Students may select major areas of study such as: social policy, social justice and human rights, direct practice, community development and research.  The MSW program provides an option to complete the program with a thesis or a practicum.

Program Objective
The MSW program is designed to enable students to undertake a variety of responsibilities in management, policy formulation, program consultation, planning, research roles, and advanced direct social work practice within human services. Fundamental to the program is an emphasis on integrative analysis as a means of understanding the manner in which social research, direct social work practice, social policy development, and social administration are interrelated.
Candidates may be enrolled on either a full time or part time basis. Students must maintain candidacy. No more than two semesters may elapse before a student is required to register. Students have a maximum of five years to complete the thesis program and six years to complete the practicum program.

The Bachelor of Health Studies is jointly administered between the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies and the Faculty of Arts in partnership with First Nations University of Canada.

In the health studies bachelor’s degree program, you will gain a broad understanding of how determinants of health shape the wellbeing of people, families and communities. This includes experiences of illnesses and diseases, but also what people need to live healthy lives.

The Levene MSc in Organizational Studies is a 33 credit hour program that equips students with advanced research skills and extensive knowledge in a specialized area of business administration.  The target audience for the MSc in Organizational Studies is primarily students who recently completed their undergraduate education and who have a strong interest in a research-focused career in business.  The MSc program is a research-based degree with a thesis requirement.

The Department of Music’s MMus and MA degrees can lead to career opportunities in performance, education, library science, music publishing, media, and arts administration, among others. It also provides exciting potential for further studies at the doctoral level. Our programs promote study in areas as traditional or contemporary as you are, with individualized instruction, and excellent performance and rehearsal facilities. There is also ample opportunity to explore interdisciplinary studies with the other Media, Art, and Performance areas.

Master of Music (MMus) in Performance - (Orchestral Instruments)
This 30 credit hour program offers advanced studies in the above areas of specialization, as well as directed studies in the repertoire of the student’s instrument. Students study solo repertoire, participate in chamber ensembles, and undertake leadership roles in the ensemble most relevant to them (orchestra, concert band, wind ensemble, concert choir, or chamber choir). This program includes the performance of two full-length recitals. All students also take graduate courses in critical theory in the fine arts, and in research techniques specific to music. Graduate students in Performance participate in workshops with internationally renowned guest artists and are encouraged to perform in competitions at the national and international levels.

Students can complete the pre-nutrition requirements for the Nutrition program at the University of Saskatchewan at the University of Regina. Students are eligible to apply to the Nutrition program after completion of 30 credits hours of specific course requirements. Pre-nutrition courses completed at the University of Regina can be used toward a variety of programs at the University of Regina.
