Agribusiness comes into play at every stage in the food chain, from primary production to the packaging of your favourite snack food. It is also a dynamic business that must respond to advances in technology, changes in trade and policy and to an ever-changing, consumer-driven marketplace.

What you will learn
You will learn about business management, economics, marketing, finance and sales, as well as the legal and institutional environment that characterize agribusiness. You will study the structure and organization of the agri-food sector and develop business skills relevant to farm input, on-farm businesses, processing, transportation, credit and marketing.

Bioinformatics combines biology, biochemistry, mathematics, statistics and computer science for analyzing and understanding the biochemical processes of life. If your passion is understanding biological processes, genetics, or diseases using biological information, this program would suit you well.

What you will learn
You will learn specialized computational techniques for storing, visualizing, and analyzing data generated from genome sequencing projects and technologies for determining gene expression and protein structures. You will be able to deduce information about an organism from its genome.

Computer science studies the theory, design, development and application of software and software systems in a wide range of fields from artificial intelligence and human-computer interaction to computational modelling and computer graphics.

What you will learn
You will learn about a wide range of topics including design and maintenance of software systems, distributed systems, human-computer interaction, computational modeling, artificial intelligence, mobile computing, programming languages, image processing, and computer graphics. You will learn to combine creative problem solving and analytical skills to create practical and innovative software.

Geophysics is the application of physics to problems in Earth science. Geophysics is widely used in any situation where information on the subsurface is required—for example, environmental assessment and remediation, civil engineering, oceanography and space exploration.

What you will learn
You will study the earth’s interior using techniques based on physics and mathematics. You will participate in a field school that covers the complete range of geophysical tools including seismology, gravity, magnetics and electromagnetic methods which are used extensively in the search for natural resources. You will learn about the physics of earth processes like earthquakes and how to mitigate risks of natural hazards.

Sustainable use of our land, water and plant resources is increasingly recognized as a key societal goal. Resource Science provides essential skills and knowledge in applied sciences and resource management which can be used to influence sustainable development such as rejuvenating disturbed land or reducing greenhouse gas emissions from landscapes.

What you will learn
The Resource Science specialization provides you with hands-on, practical experience in field measurement and assessment. You will learn about:

• Environmental site assessment and soil landscape relationships
• In-field understanding of the spatial relationships of ecosites and soil units
• Remediation and reclamation practices
• Analysis and aggregation of field data
• Application of ecological land classification

Crop scientists contribute to global food security by increasing local and global food production, developing new crop varieties, and protecting plants from disease and environmental stresses. Discover alternatives to traditional cropping systems and learn to improve the quality and nutrition of crops that feed the world.

Crop Science is the study of agricultural issues and challenges, including:

Crop Science integrates a broad range of disciplines, including genetics, pathology, crop quality and biotechnology, leading to the development of superior varieties of horticulture and field crops.

Engineering physics is a bridge between pure and applied science, utilizing fundamental concepts in today’s rapidly changing and highly technical engineering environment. An engineering physicist is motivated by the application of science for advancing technology and sustainability.

• In RE-ENGINEERED, instead of high-stakes exams, you will do more assignments and quizzes so you can improve your mark if you stumble early. Daily tutorials are part of the schedule so you can get help when you need it. And instead of final exams, you will explore the different branches of engineering in hands-on courses.
• You will choose your engineering specialty – known as your major, or discipline – at the end of your first year. This is the area you will study in-depth in your upper-years classes.

Environmental engineers apply science and engineering principles to protect and improve public health and the environment, including our air, water and land.

The Edwards MBA Internship Program (EMIP) is an 8-month work experience which starts in January of the 1st year of your MBA degree. If you're admitted to EMIP, and you're successful in securing a placement, you must agree to complete your MBA over a minimum of two years.

The program is designed for students with little or no work experience in their desired field. An internship is a value-added component of the Edwards MBA Program where you're provided with an opportunity to implement the business theory and concepts from your MBA coursework. Work placements also provide increased opportunities for learning, mentorship and post-graduation employment.

Agronomy is a science that finds ways to grow crops more efficiently and profitably while protecting the environment. Agronomy affects us all through the food we eat, the coffee we drink, the ethanol-based gas we use to power our vehicles and the natural fibers in the clothing we wear.

What you will learn
You will examine ways use natural resources efficiently, sustainably and profitably to produce food, feed, fibre and fuel. You will take courses from several disciplines and learn to approach agronomic issues from several different perspectives. You will acquire an understanding of the biological, ecological and economic principles of crop production and soil management, as well as an appreciation of the short and long term effects of agricultural production on the environment.
