Food and environmental microbiology offers electives courses such as probiotics and pre-biotics, food contamination and food borne diseases, bio fertilizers and bioremediation. Each stage of course is one up the previous level. Pre-biotics and pro-biotics talk about how microbes are used in therapy and in impacting our over-all health. Food borne diseases then talks about how infectious diseases are contracted through food and what shall be done to prevent it. The last course in the specialization bio-fertilizers and bioremediation elaborates the role of microbes in killing other microbes, pests and insects and bio-remediation elaborates on the use of microbes in removal of toxins, contaminants and pollutants from environment. These three courses enable a student to become prospective food and or environmental microbiologist. The syllabus designed is such that students intern in industries/companies of their interest and do multi-disciplinary research project at School of Health Sciences UPES in tie up with School of computer science, School of business, School of Engineering and Design. The focus remains on outcome based education with the outcome being highly employable, problem solving microbiologists.  

5 G Communication and Technology involves core ECE subjects plus innovative courses covering innovative technologies such as Massive MIMO, LTE-Advanced, mmWave, Massive-IoT, 5G-NR, NB-IoT, SDN, Cloud-RAN, Edge Computing, NFV, HetNets, Network Slicing and much more. State-of-the-art laboratories, project-based learning environment and regular industrial visits (every semester) are conducted to amplify practical exposure and hand-on experience of the students.

Plant Biotechnology assist developing new varieties of crop like genetically engineered crop, marker assisted selection, genetics and genomics, etc. This field of study helps in identifying and mapping genes, discovering their functions and transferring desired gene to specific plants as per requirement. This branch of study also focuses on all aspects of genetic engineering process to enhance efficiency, expression and precision of added gene.

This programs’ problem-based learning mechanism, emphasizes on genomics, proteomics and metabolomics. Besides the curriculum for Plant Biotechnology planned with theoretical studies, students will be having hands on experience performing some of the techniques used to detect genetic variations and its implications in plants. Students will be subjected to problem solving sessions to enhance their ability to apply and design their own research projects.

Smart grid and computing represent a new generation of hardware, software and network that connect physical infrastructure with analytic computing systems. Smart grid is the emerging energy system wherein the application of information technology, tools and techniques make the grid run more efficiently. Frequently occurring high impact low probability natural disaster and cyber-attack creates the need for future-ready resilient smart grid. The challenges and opportunities of emerging and future smart grids can be addressed by computing techniques. The objective of this minor specialisation is to provide different computing applications for energy management in the smart grid architecture and science of resilient smart grid against natural disaster and cyber-attacks.

Integrated B.Sc.- M.Sc. (Physics) with specialization in Material Science aims to equip students both with the fundamental as well as advanced concepts in Physics as well as hands on training in synthesis and characterization of novel materials - finding applications in domains including but not limited to health, sanitation, defense, clean energy harvesting (solar cells, fuel cells, hydrogen storage, etc.), aerospace, semiconductors industry, etc. Students will also have opportunity to learn computational materials science, in which they will be equipped with various simulation software /techniques and numerical algorithms to simulate materials via computers. The students enrolling for this program will have opportunity to work with faculty members having exceptional academic and research credentials in theoretical and experimental materials science.
