Bachelor of Communication with endorsements in Creative Media

This program provides students with postgraduate study leading towards professional and higher academic practice. Students will learn within a research-focused learning environment, and will extend their domain of practice through research in their chosen area.

Students will extend their domain of practice through undertaking a body of sustained, independent research. This in-depth investigation is in the student's chosen area of communication, design, music or visual arts practice within a research-focused learning environment. The program will prepare students for high level investigation of, and intervention within their chosen academic or professional field.

The Master of Applied Information Technology enables students to undertake an extended study program in their specialised information technology field. It requires 180 credits and has two pathways:

• The thesis pathway
• The research project pathway

Students studying the Bachelor of Communication at Wintec will learn to communicate effectively with flair. Working individually and in teams, they will hone their storytelling and analytical skills gaining industry-relevant skills and knowledge through hands-on, client-focused projects.

Introduced to both creative media and digital marketing, students develop their expertise in their chosen endorsement through project roles and elective choices, with the opportunity to further specialise in their third year.

Creative media 
Along with core communication skills, writing, multimedia storytelling, and basic digital marketing, students will develop further skills to be creative content producers. Students will learn:

• Media production and delivery
• Creative research and development
• Photography
• Video production

Students will generate dynamic, creative media solutions. They will produce a range of engaging content for delivery across a variety of platforms, that respond to a brief, and appeal to their intended audiences.

Students in the Bachelor of Design programme will develop their creativity, innovation, and design capabilities to find new ways to visually and strategically solve challenges for brands and organisations.

Spatial design
Students will develop designs focusing on functional interior spaces and design fundamentals that span across both residential and commercial disciplines while learning the skills needed to thrive in the industry, including pitching to clients and overseeing a project from start to finish. They will learn:

• Design fundamentals for residential and commercial spaces
• People and communication skills to pitch to clients
• Construction knowledge and project management strategies

This program is for those who want to learn to confidently nurture and care for women through pregnancy, childbirth, and up to the first six weeks following birth. Students will gain a wide range of knowledge and skills to work autonomously, be fully responsible for the wellbeing of women and babies, and support families safely and appropriately.

Students study full-time and are required to complete the program within five years, as prescribed by the Midwifery Council of New Zealand (MCNZ). On application to MCNZ, a sixth study year may be approved. The first year is mainly theory-based, with the second- and third-year split between practical and theory, and the fourth year is predominantly practical.

This program is designed to extend and deepen an individual’s professional practice and apply an advanced body of knowledge in a range of fields of health and social practice which include, but is not limited to physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nursing, midwifery, social work, counselling and human services. It will offer learning opportunities designed to inform your practice and develop valued knowledge in Treaty-based practice. You will learn and grow professionally while undertaking interactive and experiential-based education.

This postgraduate diploma will extend students' existing qualifications and will allow higher-level professional development that is interprofessional. Students will gain the skills to develop, analyse and generate solutions to complex and sometimes unpredictable problems. This qualification is relevant to practitioners from a wide range of practice contexts, and the resulting interprofessional interaction of health and social services practitioners will enhance and strengthen service delivery in the region.

An interprofessional context will enable graduates to extend their capacity for critical and professional/clinical reasoning for specialist practice, leadership, and management in complex professional environments.

This programme is for those who want to enhance their degree or work experience with knowledge and skills in public relations, advertising, and media practices. Students will work on live projects with real clients, with support from tutors with industry experience.

To be successful in public relations or advertising, students must be an excellent communicator, a problem solver, a lateral thinker, interested in contemporary issues, creative and able to work under pressure. The Graduate Diploma in Communication (Level 7) can help develop students' abilities in these areas and prepare them for a career in these exciting industries.

In this program, students will gain a strong foundation of knowledge across a broad range of different information technology skills, as well as an advanced level of expertise in a selected specialisation.

Students will undertake core modules that cover the fundamental skills required for a career in IT, for example, software engineering, database architecture, web development, business analysis, communications technology, operating systems, systems administration, and network engineering. Students will also gain practical, industry-aligned skills that employers demand from our graduates as well as new and emerging fields including cloud computing, big data and analytics, DevOps, business intelligence, agile development, web and mobile app development, games development, AR/VR, intrusion detection, vulnerability assessment, and security.

Our degree is also designed to provide students with a broad skill-set and holistic understanding of the wider context of the IT business domain and the global IT industry, as well as specialist knowledge in a specific area. Technologies and tools used within the degree are ever updating but currently include python, C#.net, Visual Studio, Java, Android development, MS Server, Active Directory, Unity3D, Unreal, Cisco, Fortinet, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, Laravel, PHP, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, Power BI, AWS, Azure, Hadoop, and much more.
