Caring for acutely ill adults is a demanding and important role, and we’ll help you develop the skills and expertise to practise effectively and compassionately. You’ll learn how to provide specialist clinical care while at the same time transforming your existing qualification/s into a BSc (Hons) degree.

Choose to study in Cambridge, Chelmsford or Peterborough, alongside other students with a particular interest in this area. It’s a great opportunity to learn from each other. Together, you’ll explore and apply the current policies, laws and procedures that affect the care of acutely ill adults. You’ll deepen your leadership skills, improve your decision-making, and increase your ability to support and develop others in their work. You’ll also develop your ability to work closely with professionals from other disciplines.

When it comes to work placements, you’ll need to be already employed in a suitable acute-care environment. Your manager should agree to offer supervision and mentorship so that your practice can be fully assessed.

Our BEng (Hons) Electronics and Robotics is designed to put you at the forefront of today’s engineering world.

Placing an emphasis on Industry 4.0 concepts such as digital tools for engineering, the internet of things (IoT), and systematic, project-based approaches, it’ll equip you with skills and knowledge that are in high demand among employers.

Electronics and robotics engineers are required to think originally and critically; work innovatively, creatively and sustainably; and consider the social, commercial, legal and environmental impacts of their work. Throughout the course, you’ll have opportunities to practice these skills, making you well-prepared to enter the workplace when you graduate.You’ll gain experience of every aspect of the development of smart connected electronics and robotics systems today, helping you to discover where your talents and interests lie and determine how you want to use your degree.

Health inequality means that we don’t all start with the same chance in life. The need to recognise public health issues has never been so important.

From interviewing students about drug and alcohol addiction, to creating a campaign about exercise and nutrition in a poor area of the UK, to writing a report to inform a government about a rare disease in a developing country – the diverse nature of public health means that no two days are the same.

It’s a sector that’s brimming with career opportunities.

Public health covers three key areas:

• Health improvement: this includes work to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities by promoting health lifestyle changes. This can include helping people to quit smoking or improve their living conditions; promoting healthy eating, or tackling underlying issues such as poverty and reduced access to healthcare.
• Health protection: this area can cover the safety and quality of the environment, food and water, preventing the spread of communicable disease and managing outbreaks – such as pandemic flu – and addressing the health effects of climate change.
• Healthcare: public health professionals help to make sure that health and care services are fit-for-purpose and accessible to all sectors of the population.

By studying BSc (Hons) Public Health at ARU, you’ll gain practical skills and the confidence to work collaboratively in groups.

As a student here, you’ll take part in simulated scenarios and community-based research, as well as creating reports, presentations and demonstrations to present to panels and judges

Back in the classroom you’ll gain the research and analytical skills to interpret data. When you graduate you’ll be equipped to use evidence to help plan and implement health solutions for individuals and communities and to develop effective health policies. You’ll also be aware of important issues like health inequalities and social justice, be familiar with health needs assessment and data analysis tools, and have developed effective communication skills.

We’ve worked with public health stakeholders, including Public Health England, the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) and Health Education England to create our course, and our teaching staff are part of international networks which inform everything we do.

From developing technologies and health trends to your social media presence and campaigning, we monitor the public health landscape and change with it, so your degree is always relevant.

As a Public Health student, you’ll constantly consider your career; engaging with public health occupational frameworks and demonstrating a range of UKPHR standards. This will be supported by a work placement and the portfolio that you’ll create from day one – and take right through to interviews and registration.

At ARU most of our business degrees also include an optional placement year, giving you the chance to spend a year working in industry and to add valuable work experience to your CV.

On this course you’ll learn through practice, in our Early Childhood Resource and Research Room and through our optional placement and theoretical modules. Placements are optional and individually tailored to enable you to gain experience in a variety of different types of settings.

Whether you decide to go on placement or not, you’ll have access to additional volunteering and work experience as well as the choice to take part in further professional development training opportunities, enrichment trips, research groups and various early childhood and education events.

Throughout your studies you’ll be taught by experts in the field of early childhood, using a variety of teaching methods and interactive technology to promote learning, including group activities, class debates and discussion, lectures and seminar sessions, as well as independent learning and study expectations.

You’ll receive regular feedback and personal tutorial support throughout the course to develop both your academic and professional skills. You’ll also benefit from the research our lecturers are involved in through our Early Childhood Research Group.

Advance your knowledge of young children’s learning and develop your early years practice and professionalism. Explore areas of personal interest in early childhood education and care whilst also enhancing your research skills. There may also be opportunities to visit different early years settings.

If you have a degree in early childhood studies, pre-school education or a related subject, our MA offers a great opportunity to explore aspects of young children’s lives in more depth, examining current policies and practices to build on your existing knowledge. Designing and building structures like bridges, roads, airports and flood defences demands a high degree of technical skill. Our Civil Engineering BEng course will teach you to approach civil engineering projects competently, responsibly, ethically and safely.

Civil engineering changes our world – from buildings and transport to the environment and civil protection. It covers everything from creative concepts to physical construction and maintenance. Designing and building structures like bridges, roads, airports and flood defences demands a high degree of technical skill.

On our newly designed course your learning will be based around the civil engineering project and hands-on learning, giving you the chance to immediately apply the theory you learn in class to address the challenges of the project. You will learn how to carry out site investigations, select the best materials for the job, analyse and design structures and engineering systems, plan the construction process and assess and mitigate the environmental impact of the project using our specialist workshops and labs. You will learn how to carry out land surveys and use state of the art CAD systems and specialist software to design and analyse complex systems.

When studying our Civil Engineering course, you’ll learn a range of transferable skills, including how to manage projects and contracts; statistics; management techniques; and principles of IT, preparing you for industry work, advising clients, working closely with other engineers and stake holders. You’ll become a creative problem solver and a confident communicator, able to work well independently and in a team.

As a BSc (Hons) Building Surveying student at ARU, you’ll find yourself working independently and as part of larger built environment teams. This helps you understand where building surveyors ‘fit in’, and it’s great preparation for your future career.

Together, you’ll go on site visits, attend talks given by professional experts, and learn how to manage projects. This puts you in a strong position for employment in this highly interesting and varied field.

Our Building Surveying degree course is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), so when you graduate, you can take your Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) and qualify as a Chartered Surveyor.

Based in Cambridge, Chelmsford or Peterborough (two-year accelerated degree) our course will prepare you to join postgraduate Initial Teacher Training.

You needn’t be limited to primary school teaching, though. You might have your sights set on a career in the wider education sector, cultural institutions and NGOs, or related fields such as health and social work. On this degree course you’ll develop your understanding of primary education, and gain the knowledge and skills to work collaboratively in a range of settings.

Our Primary Education Studies course is designed for those looking for a career working with children aged 3-12 and their families. It’s also a great option if you already work in education but want to learn more about the subject or progress in your career.

We focus on education history, policy and the way children are taught today. You’ll graduate with a thorough understanding of classroom management, lesson planning, National Curriculum subjects, and the three Key Stages in primary education. We’ll also touch on special educational needs provision.

Throughout the course there’s a strong focus on the core subjects that all primary-aged pupils study: reading, writing, maths and science. You’ll become familiar with teaching approaches and how to make adjustments to suit learners of all abilities.

Of course, anyone working with children and families knows that it’s important to support the ‘whole child’ and so, as well as looking at education and teaching, we’ll explore related areas such as health, welfare, child psychology and children’s rights.

While studying at ARU, you’ll have opportunities to observe teaching in local schools. We offer our Primary Education Studies course as a three-year degree or an accelerated degree, which you’ll complete in two years. When you graduate, you’ll be ideally placed to join a postgraduate teacher training course with one of our partners and return to us to complete your PGCE.

Our full-time MSc Clinical Nursing course is designed for registered international nurses who are working in a range of roles and settings in the fast-changing world of health service provision.Whether you want to focus on a particular clinical specialty or are still deciding on a clinical pathway, this postgraduate course in Chelmsford is a great way to broaden your career prospects.

ARU’s MSc Clinical Nursing features an extensive range of optional modules to choose from. These will help you to develop your existing skillset and deepen your knowledge of contemporary issues in healthcare both in the UK and internationally.

These practitioner-led optional modules foster innovation, research and creativity, and will enable you to influence service delivery and effect change in your own areas of clinical practice.You’ll also explore leadership and management in healthcare.
