You will develop your understanding of the very latest communication tools and technology while you engage with social media, search engine optimisation, crowd sourcing and user-generated content. You will also focus on the traditional media platforms of newspapers, television and radio.

This was the first journalism course in England to be taught from within a business school, providing students with access to our extensive contacts in industry. This integrated masters course provides the ideal platform to gain broad-based technical experience that will enable you to enter design, construction or operations roles within the civil engineering industry.

As part of this course, you’ll:

• Build the foundations for a diverse and interesting future in civil engineering
• Develop knowledge of the mathematical and scientific principles and methodologies which underpin civil engineering
• Apply your knowledge to real-world problems
• Learn to produce innovative solutions using technical literature and industry codes of standard
• Practice using investigation and evaluation of design-related engineering issues
• Gain detailed knowledge and technical proficiency in health and safety, sustainable, environmental and economic development, and the frameworks in which they operate
• Equip yourself with the problem-solving skills to work on projects such as designing large structures and infrastructure including roads, water supply and drainage, bridges, airports, tunnels, and sea and flood defences

Develop your own approach to the study and practice of graphic design through a combination of brief-led and self-initiated projects.

As part of your course you’ll:

• Explore a wide spectrum of disciplines including design for print, illustration, photography, typography, animation and moving image

• Have the opportunity to show off your projects to the public and impress industry by exhibiting your work at the end of your final year

Our students have worked alongside practitioners and on live briefs from organisations such as Harvey Nichols, the BBC, Leeds Art Gallery and the NHS.

Engage with innovative theory. This course has been designed to significantly expand both your practical expertise within the field of medical biochemistry and your transferable skills. Exposure to a range of techniques, including microscopy, spectroscopy and diagnostic assays, and their associated theories will significantly develop your understanding of medical biochemistry.

During your studies, you will prepare for, and undertake, an extensive independent project. You will discuss your project in detail with your supervisor before carrying out your research and writing up your study in a thesis. Additionally, you will study related subjects such as metabolism, physiology and the genetics of drug responses.

This course will develop your competencies in data analysis and statistics, science communication and professional development, enabling you to further your career as a confident medical biochemist or researcher.

This course has been designed in-line with the specific criteria required to go on to undertake the NHS Scientist Training Programme. As well as gaining an understanding of the practice and theory of advanced medical biochemistry, you will master other skills required to be a capable scientist. These include data analysis techniques such as using SPSS, and effective science communication, for example developing conference posters, delivering presentations, writing scientific papers and using social media to disseminate your research.

Develop the entrepreneurial flair to kick-start, manage and grow your own business or help an existing enterprise to expand.

If you take a paid work placement in your third year, you’ll develop and enhance your employability skills.

As well as having the option to gain experience on a placement, you’ll take part in workshops and work on a consultancy project within a start-up business.

Our guest lecture series will help give you access to the enterprise expertise present in Leeds, the northern powerhouse of the region's businesses and economy. Past speakers include the CEO of the London Stock Exchange, the Chief Executive of the British Bankers Association and the Chief Economist of Yorkshire Bank.

As part of this course, you’ll:

• Develop the range of skills you’ll need to be able to undertake construction management positions
• Study the legal, financial and economic environments in which the industry operates
• Understand the other professions involved in building
• Gain an overview of the whole construction process, including surveying, quantity surveying and architectural technology
• Learn to use commercial awareness and professional managerial knowledge in managing contracts within specified quality, cost and schedule boundaries
• Understand responsibilities associated with managing site operations, including those concerning the commissioners of a development, direct employees, subcontractors, the public and agents of regulatory and other authorities

Develop the confidence and expertise to work in a range of professions across the children’s workforce.

As part of this course, you’ll:

• Focus on the sociology and psychology of children and childhood in your classroom-based learning
• Pay attention to the importance of play for children’s wellbeing and development

You’ll have access to work-based learning opportunities with experienced supervisors in a range of child-focused occupations. Upon graduation you’ll have a range of practical and transferable skills at your fingertips, and a critical understanding of contemporary issues central to the study and practice of childhood development and playwork.
