As part of this course, you’ll:

• Gain an understanding of the scientific and mathematical principles and methodologies that underpin Civil Engineering
• Build your understanding of structures, hydraulics, geotechnical engineering, management, health, safety and welfare, surveying, materials science and sustainable development

You will gain an in-depth perspective of all areas of business including strategic analysis, ethical decision-making, people management, financial analytics, marketing and risk management. A focus on entrepreneurial skills will be embedded throughout your course and your assessments will reflect the demands of the workplace environment, for example researching and delivering a presentation.

Your tutors will deliver theory via lectures before you explore those ideas in smaller seminars. You will learn in a collaborative environment using case studies to enhance your learning and your tutors will guide your development by providing immediate personalised feedback. You will complete either a work placement or MBA Consultancy Project; either module will enable you to apply your theoretical knowledge to a real-life business issue, before collecting data and research to identify practical solutions.

This course will allow you to become a qualified youth and community worker, increasing your employment opportunities in this rapidly changing field. It is validated by the National Youth Agency.

In your first year, you will study the legal frameworks, policies and theories - in particular psychosocial perspectives - that underpin social work. A practice placement will offer you the chance to hone your communication skills as you start to apply your knowledge in the field.

In your second year, you will continue to extend and refine your understanding of the law. You'll also undertake a second practice placement and complete a dissertation. This course remains approved by Social Work England. This means that people qualifying from this course can apply to become a registered social worker.

As part of your course, you’ll:

• Explore a range of contemporary issues within geography and environmental science such as remote sensing, natural hazard management, energy and environmental governance, climate adaptation, GIS and specialist technical field work

Field trips, which include visits to sites of geographical and environmental importance, will help you gain an understanding of real-world issues and develop competence in practical research skills.
