Develop the knowledge and expertise you will need for a managerial position in business.

You will gain an in-depth perspective of all areas of business including strategic analysis, ethical decision-making, people management, financial analytics, marketing and risk management. A focus on entrepreneurial skills will be embedded throughout your course and your assessments will reflect the demands of the workplace environment, for example researching and delivering a presentation.

Your tutors will deliver theory via lectures before you explore those ideas in smaller seminars. You will learn in a collaborative environment using case studies to enhance your learning and your tutors will guide your development by providing immediate personalised feedback. You will complete either a work placement or MBA Consultancy Project; either module will enable you to apply your theoretical knowledge to a real-life business issue, before collecting data and research to identify practical solutions.

As part of this course, you’ll:

• Complete your dissertation, an in-depth project focused on enhancing corporate governance practice, supported by an expert tutor
• Define your own area of investigation, be that corporate governance, compliance or social responsibility and performance
• Aim to support your professional development and improve the corporate governance of your organisation so it becomes a beacon for good practice
• Study part-time with the support of an applied business school, so you’re able to fit your studies into your professional schedule

If you take a paid work placement in your third year, you’ll develop and enhance your employability skills. Our students have enjoyed placements with Disney, Morrisons and the NHS.

Our guest lecture series will help support your development. Past speakers include the CEO of the London Stock Exchange, the Chief Executive of the British Bankers Association and the Chief Economist of Yorkshire Bank.

Become a spatial planning expert with the ability to advise clients on the effective use of land. This accredited course will develop your understanding of local authority controls relating to many aspects of policy; including transportation, communities, the environment and the quality of the built environment.

As part of your course, you’ll:

• Study the rationale behind spatial planning, including considerations of effectiveness, diversity and difference, and community engagement
• Engage in creative and innovative intervention in spaces and places using appropriate techniques, knowledge and skills
• Reflect on your own work as you develop your self-awareness
• Explore the ethics of planning practice

Develop the power of your storytelling through confident employment of creative and technical filmmaking skills in drama, documentary and experimental film production.

As part of your course you’ll:

• Study theory to develop your creative practice and be guided by industry experienced tutors in all aspects of film production
• Explore a range of filmmaking disciplines, including directing for drama, experimental film and documentary, together with producing, cinematography, screenwriting, design, editing and post-production, and location and post-production sound
• Learn who your audience is and how to engage them
• Explore the responsibilities of your practice, discovering your voice and developing that as a filmmaker

All of our tutors are film practitioners, so you’ll benefit from a wide range of professional production experience. The teaching team has a wealth of expertise in drama, documentary and experimental filmmaking, with specialist knowledge in screenwriting, postproduction, sound, producing, directing and cinematography.

Studio time is central to this course. You’ll develop your skills in our extensive studio facilities, which include workshop and computer-modelling software.

As part of your course, you’ll:

• Study a wide range of topics – from studio design and model-making, to art, history and culture
• Use industry-standard tools to design and build your projects
• Learn technical skills in workshops alongside students from our BA (Hons) Interior Architecture & Design and BA (Hons) Landscape Architecture & Design courses

Explore pressing issues in contemporary politics, including Brexit, climate change and the resurgence of right-wing populism. You’ll gain an in-depth historical perspective including the rise of the nation-state, European imperialism, and the ideological conflicts of the 20th Century.

As part of this course, you’ll:

• Examine how historical events and processes have shaped the modern world, its ideologies and political institutions
• Understand how circumstances, chance and human agency have affected global events and processes
• Evaluate theories, methods and approaches relevant to both history and politics and apply these to your studies with confidence and creativity
• Analyse primary sources and the writings of historians and political scientists
• Be introduced to political theory and key issues around governance and international relations

This course blends skills in critical thinking from a historical perspective, evaluation of evidence and consideration of context. You’ll also learn to analyse the ideas, ideologies, policies and institutions that form the foundations of modern politics.

You will specialise in either contemporary literature or creative writing. Taught in workshops held on weekday evenings, you will be able to fit your studies around your existing commitments.

Contemporary Literature
Specialise in researching contemporary literature. You will be introduced to a range of recent literary texts in English and develop an advanced, critical understanding of recent debates on the contemporary creative process.

You will be encouraged by expert tutors to develop your skills in close reading, creating and delivering presentations and formal discussions. Modules will explore how contemporary literary studies is a creative process, and will enable you to specialise in topics at the cutting edge of the discipline.   

Your independent project will enable you to experience the process of defining your own area of investigation and conducting in-depth research and writing.

Creative Writing
Study creative writing at an advanced level. From the outset, you will focus on developing particular expertise in the writing process, and the texts and theories you study will enhance your writing practice.

Develop the specialist skills and knowledge to enter the games, digital and creative entertainment industries.

As part of your course you’ll:

• Focus on three main areas: programming and software engineering; art, concept and asset production; and game design studies, practice and theory
• Take products from an initial idea through the design, visualisation and technical implementation stages
• Be encouraged to foster your individual creativity
• Produce games based on your ideas
• Work with other students and tutors who have a passion for games and gaming

 Placement opportunities, networking events and guest lectures from industry experts such as Disney animator Aaron Blaise and codemasters Team17 Digital and Dan Gray from UsTwoGames will enhance your awareness of the career opportunities open to you.

We are also members of industry network, Game Republic, where past students have won awards from industry judges in the Student Showcase Competition.

Final year students also have the opportunity to showcase their work in front of leading employers at the end of year degree show. You can see some of their work in the Leeds School of Arts Festival. Previous years have seen many of our students gain job offers through the showcase opportunities.

As part of this course, you’ll:

• Gain an understanding of the scientific and mathematical principles and methodologies that underpin Civil Engineering
• Build your understanding of structures, hydraulics, geotechnical engineering, management, health, safety and welfare, surveying, materials science and sustainable development
• Look at using materials in new ways, the principles of experimental design, and the engineering behind roads, bridges and other major structures
• Know what's needed to investigate and evaluate different engineering situations

You’ll understand how civil engineering works and know how to use your knowledge to solve structural problems. As well as honing your technical expertise, you’ll develop a flair for communication, problem solving and project management. We’ll prepare you to play a leading role in industry by nurturing your ability to manage and work in team environments.

Our modern, well-equipped laboratories will give you the chance to get involved with industry standard tools and testing. We'll show you how to examine the strength of materials for structures, and understand the latest geotechnical and structural analysis software packages.

We offer great links with industry, thanks to our teaching team which includes Chartered Engineers who have extensive experience across different areas of engineering. Guest lectures and talks on engineering projects will provide you with great opportunities to network with professional engineers and understand how what you're learning can be applied to real situations.
