Our business accounting course helps you develop the knowledge, expertise and skills that directly apply to companies across all sectors of the global business environment.

You’ll explore a range of financial management approaches and learn how to apply different concepts to real-life scenarios. You’ll also have the flexibility to tailor your studies with optional modules that complement your personal interests and career goals.

Build your practical business and accounting skills

• Our flexible three-year and four-year study options give you the chance to develop your professional and practical skills through work experience in the industry. You’ll have the opportunity to take two 18-week summer placements as part of a three-year degree, or a 36-week paid work placement in your third year as part of a four-year approach.
• After your first year, you’ll have the option to switch to our accounting course if you decide that a career as a qualified accountant is a better fit for you, though this is dependent on the standard of your academic results.
• Unlimited access to our business resources – including Chartered Management Institute's Management Direct Resource Hub – gives you the chance to enhance your industry knowledge and gain a competitive edge when it comes to launching your career.

You enrol on a four-year course, which includes the one-year foundation course. If you complete this year successfully you progress directly onto our three-year media degree courses listed below. BA Digital Media and Communications

Combining theoretical knowledge and practical skills, you gain skills in areas such as new media, video production, website design, culture and more. Practice-based work includes video production (following Government safety guidelines), web design and HTML programming, data visualisation and smart environments. Great emphasis is also given to the management and analysis of social media platforms, with APIs and other sources used to present and assess social data.

Our course combines broad theoretical skills of modern psychology practice with a focus on the neuroscientific explanations and research of human behaviour.

You’ll study in the psychology department which has some of the most high-tech equipment available. In our sector-leading laboratory, you’ll have access to all the facilities you would imagine from a top class lab – psychophysiological monitoring, electroencephalography (EEG), and more. Even in eventualities where we are unable to be in the laboratory or classroom together, we aim to use virtual tools to help you develop key practical skills.

The course is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) and you’ll have access to membership once you graduate with your psychology and neuroscience degree.

After graduation, you can choose to progress into postgraduate training or pursue a career in law, politics or teaching. Previous graduates have gone on to work with companies like Pro Star Academy, Royal Free Hospital, and more.

Learn in an active environment
Throughout your degree you’ll study the foundations of psychology and neuroscience, broadening your understanding and knowledge of the disciplines. You’ll learn by researching, analysing and processing complex data and real-life case studies.

Designed to give you a deep understanding of psychology, this course sets you up perfectly for further postgraduate training. It also teaches you transferable skills required for a career across a wide range of industries.

During the course you’ll also take part in a work placement so you can test the skills you've built up throughout your modules. This year long placement sets you up to succeed when you go on to your postgraduate career. A wide range of influential and established organisations are involved with the placement course, for example Great Ormond Hospital School, St Georges Hospital, Priory Hospital, Institute of Psychiatry, Institute of Education, University College London, Holloway Prison, and the Metropolitan Police.

This BA is an independent, studio-based programme which looks specifically at illustration as professional practice. Learn to challenge the boundaries of illustration in a creative studio environment with your peers, and discover where you can make a difference in the exciting world of illustration. You will have extensive access to some of the best workshop facilities in the country, including print processes such as etching, lithography, silkscreen, lino and monoprint, as well as a letterpress workshop and digital and traditional photographic studios and darkrooms.

We have an excellent record of success in international competitions. Past students have achieved many D&AD gold awards in a number of categories such as, Graphic Design, Illustration, Animation and Interactive design. We have also been shortlisted in the Macmillan Children’s Book Prize for many years, first prize in the 2012 Observer/Jonathan Cape/Comica Award, joint runner up in the Threadneedle Prize at Mall Galleries, and nominated for the Penguin Book cover prize.

We have strong links with the illustration industry, from publishers, illustration agents, and practising illustrators to graphic and packaging designers, magazine editors, App and Games Design.  As part of the course, you will enter international creative industry competitions and tackle many live briefs. Most recently students have produced a graphic novel and an online graphic novel for two museums and work for the BBC iWonder website and all year groups get to participate in an annual central London exhibition.

Gain specialist illustration skills

We ensure that you graduate from our course with the specialist skills you’ll need to approach agents, set up studios, and produce a website as you start on your career path. Many of our students go on to work in magazine publishing, editorial illustration, advertising, animation, and more. We have strong industry links with art and design employers. Industry partners sponsor final students as well as give visiting lectures while hundreds of agencies and organisations attend the final degree show each year.

Our course is unique in that as soon as possible, we will provide you with an individual workspace that you can treat as your own studio throughout your studies. Previous students have told us that this helped them with feeling creatively fulfilled. As part of your blended learning, you will also have access to our amazing workshops as illustration students often use the printmaking and digital media workshops, laser cutting and photographic studios.

In your second and third year, you'll have the opportunity to enter Creative Industry competitions such as the Macmillan's Children's Book Prize. Past graduates have won many yellow pencils in the D&AD while others have been shortlisted for the Folio Society and Macmillan children’s book prize.

Not everyone wants to go into an established business and simply fit into the organisation. Some people want to enter a company to shake things up and innovate their product, their brand or how they operate. Other people don’t see themselves working for anyone, have an idea they want to pursue and start their own business.

On our course you can shape your studies to your career ambitions, developing yourself and your skills to innovate products and services in the modern workforce.

During the course, there's an emphasis on applying practice to theory in a business environment. This gives you the opportunity to see how businesses develop their products, manage their operations and innovate in their markets. To this end, a large part of the course is taking part in a work placement so you can apply what you know in a live environment.You will develop essential skills and knowledge in business management and will study modules designed to expand your knowledge of the behaviour of people in organisations, the financial aspects of business, and the wider business environment.

At the end of Year 2 you can take a year-long placement option before returning to complete your degree. In your final year, you will advance your skills and knowledge in business management and can also choose to study a business start-up, managing business projects, or a research project.

During the foundation year you will learn how computers are used by a broad range of people and organisations as well as acquiring fundamental software development skills and knowledge of hardware. You also gain relevant mathematical and statistical skills and develop useful communication skills.

BSc Cyber Security and Digital Forensics

BA Criminology (Criminal Justice)

Our criminal justice degree approaches the subject from a theoretical, research-informed, and practice-based perspective. This means that during your time studying you’ll gain an understanding of the criminal justice system, including an introduction to law and legal justice and the different career paths you might want to pursue after graduation. This could be joining the police or opting to work for support services and charities that focus on policy and reform. As you progress into the second and third year, there is a choice of lots of option modules and you can shape your own degree.

Biological science of the Third Millennium. encompasses and unites concepts, techniques and data from many allied sciences to provide a broader understanding of Life’s processes and interactions. The programme at Middlesex University is unique in combining a range of modules that cover a wide spectrum of biological sciences, but also integrates an emphasis on skills and experience acquisition that provides you with a valuable and marketable skill set. It is a programme for self- motivated students with a strong scientific interest who wish to develop their knowledge and practical skills in biology.

This programme builds upon a first year core of cell biology, microbiology, genetics, biochemistry, evolutionary biology, and biological techniques. This allows you to focus your studies upon your own interests in your second and third years. You will be able to select from modules in a variety of disciplines related to themes in molecular biology, bioinformatics, ecology and biodiversity.

Throughout your degree you will gain biological and transferable skills necessary for a scientific career. Our games design course is designed to give you a skill set that’s resilient to the rapid changes in an expanding and evolving industry. You’ll gain hands-on experience that will help you build your portfolio and develop your experience in a wide range of design skills that will open up career opportunities in a broad range of creative industries.

The games industry is  complex and diverse industry that spans a variety of old and new technologies fm print to computer software to 3D printed game pieces. Our BA/BSc in games design gives you the transferable skills and knowledge you need to become a successful games designer in this industry. Led by academic staff experienced in AAA, indie, tabletop and mobile gaming, you'll develop your technology and story development skills, as well as enhancing your game-play design expertise.

Depending on your interests, you will work on the technical side of games design and testing in the BSc, while the BA is focused on experience design and using scripting and games engines to produce satisfying gameplay experiences.

Build your hands-on games design skills

• We’ve got state-of-the-art facilities that give you access to over 30 workstations that are equipped with the latest software. Learning the essential skills you need to start your game design career, you’ll get to grips with the latest software, including Unity, Processing, OpenFrameworks, Maya,Z-Brush, After Effects, Flash, Final Cut Pro and Photoshop. You’ll also develop your skills with our Vicon Motion Capture and Green screen facility.
• You’ll get plenty of hands-on experience collaborating with students from our 3D animation, art and design, computing and graphics departments as part of our coordinated workshops. Developing your career ambitions, you'll have a range of industry work placements in gaming companies.
