In this degree, we focus on developing your skills in research, policy and practice in the combined fields of diet- and physical activity-related public health and wellbeing. This work is vital in addressing real issues of concern to policymakers and practitioners. Our programme is one of the first to recognise the need for specialisation in the three intertwined disciplines of nutrition, physical activity and public health.

Our programme helps you to critically examine key interactions at the interface of epidemiology, behaviour change and policy-relevant research in these connected fields. It will also help you develop important skills in designing and evaluating research and community interventions.

This MSc is designed for dieticians, physical activity, food and fitness specialists and other health professionals  who wish to gain a deeper understanding about the evidence around the role of nutrition and physical activity in public health, the factors that influence people's physical activity and eating behaviours, and how to develop and evaluate nutrition and physical activity interventions.

This course combines philosophy with the study of German, which provides a valuable skill set that is ideally tailored to the increasingly globalised workplace.

For philosophy you will study units covering introduction to philosophy, logic, and realism and normativity.

For German, you will follow a curriculum designed to introduce you to many aspects of German studies. As well as following a structured language course, you will study literature, history, thought, politics, linguistics and culture.

Modern zoology is interdisciplinary and we believe that you need to be aware of the breadth of animal biology from the molecular to the ecological. Our zoology degree begins broadly and introduces more choice in years two and three.

You will have the freedom to tailor your course to your interests and to specialise or maintain breadth in your studies. Opportunities include a week-long field- or laboratory-based course selected from a range of subject areas, and a practical research project. Having achieved accreditation from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), the course is provisionally validated by the Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour (ASAB) as fulfilling the academic requirements for accreditation as a Certificated Clinical Animal Behaviourist (CCAB) and already provides you with the opportunity to begin gaining the practical experience needed for certification as a CCAB. Your first two years are based predominantly within Bristol city centre where our pre-clinical facilities are situated at the UK's only School of Anatomy. Years three and four are based at Bristol Vet School in the beautiful Somerset village of Langford. Along with dedicated state-of-the art clinical facilities, you'll find everything to make you feel at home, including a café, gym, and on-site accommodation.

Criminology is a multidisciplinary subject comprising elements of sociology, law, social and public policy, history, psychology and philosophy. BSc Criminology with Study Abroad is an exciting course that gives you the opportunity to study criminology within a broader framework of policy studies. You will also have the opportunity to study at a partner overseas university in your third year.

The course will provide you with an understanding of crime and justice and related social harms and an analysis of public policy interventions that contribute towards a fairer, safer and harm-free society.

The course follows a similar structure to the three-year BSc Criminology. In your first and second years you will take a range of mandatory and optional units that introduce you to the interdisciplinary study of criminology and justice.

You will return to Bristol for the final year of the course, which is identical to the third year of the BSc Criminology, and will complete a dissertation and further criminology-related units.

Studying neuroscience will enable you to explore the workings of the brain, from molecules to neural systems, answering questions such as: how do neurones communicate with each other to lay down memories? What goes wrong in neuropsychiatric disorders such as Parkinson's and schizophrenia? How do we feel pain?

Your knowledge will build from studying core units in years one and two to studying selected, in-depth courses in your final year. Second-year units explore many aspects of neuroscience, including the neurophysiology of the central nervous system; the pharmacology of drugs that affect the nervous system; and the techniques that have enabled advances in understanding the nervous system.

Final-year units are run at the forefront of current research and include subjects such as synaptic plasticity and brain and behaviour, as well as studying specialised topics, such as neuropsychiatric diseases. You will also spend 30 days on a research project.
