In addition to providing advanced analytical and communication skills broadly applicable to numerous careers, the art history graduate program prepares students with the necessary research skills and experiences to enter the professional fields of teaching, museum work, art gallery management, art consultancy, arts management, and art writing, or to continue their studies at the doctoral level.

The B.A. in Linguistics, Option in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages is a program for students who are interested in TESOL. The program provides a broad foundation in linguistic theory related to sound and grammar systems, typology, language acquisition, and pedagogy. The program aims to integrate theory and practice, and help students develop a range of practical skills for teaching in a second language classroom.

This Option is suitable for students interested in teaching English abroad, teaching locally in non-public-school settings, or continuing to a Master’s or Graduate Certificate in TESOL. The Option is not a credential program for public school teaching, but some prerequisite work for a teaching credential may be completed as part of the major.

The programs in chemistry and biochemistry at the bachelor’s degree level are planned to develop background in a specific science, to serve as preparation for graduate work in chemistry or biochemistry, and to provide a foundation for those students seeking careers in the chemical sciences, teaching, law, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and other health‑related professions, and in industrial and governmental scientific occupations.

The BA in Dance, Option in Dance Science, offers a course of study combining dance with specific kinesiology and science courses for students interested in teaching careers in dance, dance medicine, careers in dance fitness, or graduate education in the areas of dance science or related dance studies. Students interested in the BA in Dance, Option in Dance Science should meet with Program Coordinator Brooke Winder no later than the start of their 2nd year (earlier for transfer students). Additionally, students must pass BIOL 207 , BIOL 208 , and DANC 260 with a minimum GPA of 2.25 to satisfy the major specific declaration requirements. The opportunity to explore a particular area of interest is provided by additional elective courses in the senior year. Several industry and professional society sponsored scholarships and internships are available to upper division mechanical engineering students. The undergraduate program in mechanical engineering offered at the Long Beach campus accepts both freshmen and transfer students. Students are admitted to the program following the university admission guidelines for freshmen and major specific admission criteria for transfer students.

The Master of Science in Marketing Analytics program provides students with advanced and highly demanded training in digital marketing tools, marketing research and analytical skills, and other relevant quantitative marketing skills ranging from customer/sales big data analysis, digital marketing management, sales force management strategies, customer relationship management (CRM), new product development, and brand management.

The Environmental Science and Policy (ES&P) degrees program is jointly housed in the College of Liberal Arts and the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, reflecting its inherent interdisciplinary nature. A Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science as well as a minor are available.

We highly encourage B.A. students to seek a minor in a closely related discipline such as anthropology, economics, geography, international studies or political science.

Education in Geography at the graduate level at CSULB provides an opportunity to broaden one’s intellectual life and to acquire or upgrade knowledge and skills for many careers. The degree is particularly suitable for those graduates with one of the following professional goals:

• Advanced graduate work at the doctoral level
• Community college and K-12 teaching
• Public sector work (e.g., urban planning, environmental management, geospatial analyst)
• Private sector work (e.g., market area analysis, environmental and geospatial consulting)
• Non-governmental work (e.g., international agencies, local community organizing)

This degree track welcomes applications from composers who are working with live technologies (and perhaps mostly—or even exclusively--creating new works that exist without a traditional score), and we also welcome applicants who don’t necessarily define themselves as composers at all, but as sound artists and other creators working with sound in various ways in conjunction with other media. Students working in the Composition with Interactive Media track realize new works in conjunction with their work with the BCCM Laptop Ensemble and often collaborate with colleagues in other departments and programs on campus, including art, computer science, dance, design, and film & electronic arts.
