The CSULB Speech-Language Pathology M.A. Program is a cohort-based program to be completed in five (5) semesters (Fall and Spring only), which include a semester of school-based internship and a semester of medical/private practice internship.

Students who successfully complete the CSULB SLP master's program are eligible for a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP), California State License in Speech-Language Pathology, and California Speech-Language Pathology Services Credential (SLPSC).

Sociology is the study of human social relationships and institutions. Sociology’s subject matter is diverse, ranging from education to religion, from the family to the state, from the divisions of gender and social class to the shared beliefs of a common culture, and from social stability to radical societal change. What unifies these diverse topics of study, however, is sociology’s core purpose of understanding how human action and consciousness both shape and are shaped by surrounding cultural and social structures.

Sociology is an exciting and enlightening field of study that analyzes and explains important issues in our personal lives, our communities, and the world. At the individual level, sociology investigates the social causes and consequences of things such as emotions and ideologies, racial identity, sexuality, health and wellness, and crime. At the societal level, sociology addresses issues such as poverty and wealth, prejudice and discrimination, schools and education, law and the criminal justice system, and social movements. And at the global level, sociology studies such phenomena as political power, migration, war, terrorism, human rights and economic development. Students of sociology are challenged to look beyond the “normal”, taken-for-granted views to develop deeper and revealing understandings of the world around us.

The Master of Science in Emergency Services Administration degree program at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) is fully online, and prepares graduates for organizational leadership and senior-level positions across the emergency services sector. The program's high-quality, wide-ranging courses engage students in theory and research that inform the management of disaster risk. Program coursework culminates in projects or theses that directly strengthen students’ organizations and communities.

In recent years, emergency services professions have become extremely competitive, with demands for personnel to further their education to attain promotion and keep up with technical advances. Those in the following fields are well-suited for this program: firefighters, police officers, military personnel, emergency medical services personnel, and disaster response planners within government, business, and industry.

The bachelor of science degree in Earth Science is designed for those students considering a professional career in environmental, geotechnical, or engineering geology. The program also provides a fundamental education in geology that prepares students for graduate studies in the geological sciences. The required curriculum includes surficial geology courses (geomorphology, hydrology) not required as part of the B.S. in Geology. Earth Science majors must receive a grade of “C” or better in all courses required for the major. A minimum of 120 units is required for the bachelor of science degree. Transfer students should attempt to fulfill, prior to transferring, the appropriate lower division curricular requirements as outlined below. In particular students should take prior to transferring the equivalent of GEOL 102 and GEOL 104, and at least three of the following four: CHEM 111A, CHEM 111B, MATH 122, and MATH 123.

The Master’s of Science in Industrial/Organizational (MSIO) Psychology program is a rigorous, 36-unit program designed to prepare students to enhance organizational performance and human well-being in professional settings.

The Department of Geological Sciences is a student-centered program that provides undergraduate students with substantial laboratory- and field-based instruction and opportunities to participate in research. Graduate students investigate a considerable range and variety of research topics for their theses. Our program has a proud tradition with a continuing commitment in preparing our students for professional careers or further post-graduate education.

Our program is based solidly in fundamental geological skills with an emphasis in field experiences. We are located 10 minutes from the beach, one hour from the mountains and the San Andreas Fault, and two hours from the desert!

Geologists are scientific detectives who uncover the past, investigate the present and predict the future of Earth. For example, geologists determine where it is safe to live, where to find essential resources, how to deal with pollution and environmental changes, and how to remediate the damage to Earth. Students who enjoy working and recreating outdoors and are curious about how the world around them works will find this field a rewarding area of study.

The Art Education degree fulfills the subject matter competency required by the State of California to teach Art in public schools.

Students interested in teaching in public schools must earn a California Teaching Credential (Single or Multiple Subject). The credential is earned after you have received your undergraduate degree.

The Art Education program develops the skills needed in making art, talking about art, and planning art learning experiences. The art education classes use a multi-faceted approach that integrates the four visual art disciplines of art production, art criticism, art history, and philosophical aesthetics. They also promote a cross-cultural exposure to art and examine the influences among artists from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds as well as the inclusion of both men and women artists. Although the studio and art history classes prepare the university students in the content and skills of art, the art education classes bring these aspects together in a model that provides approaches on how to educate young people in the schools.

This program is designed both for students who wish to pursue further graduate study and those seeking a terminal degree. The program seeks to blend theoretical and applied aspects of linguistics and draws from a variety of disciplines.

The Special Concentration Option allows a student to plan an individualized course of study around a special interest. Recent students have designed special concentrations in Psycholinguistics, Computational Linguistics, teaching Spanish, teaching Japanese, and teaching Chinese.

The B.A. in Linguistics, Option in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages is a program for students who are interested in TESOL. The program provides a broad foundation in linguistic theory related to sound and grammar systems, typology, language acquisition, and pedagogy. The program aims to integrate theory and practice, and help students develop a range of practical skills for teaching in a second language classroom.

This Option is suitable for students interested in teaching English abroad, teaching locally in non-public-school settings, or continuing to a Master’s or Graduate Certificate in TESOL. The Option is not a credential program for public school teaching, but some prerequisite work for a teaching credential may be completed as part of the major.

The Master of Music degree program provides professional concentrations in Composition, Conducting-Instrumental, Conducting-Choral, Jazz Studies, Opera Performance and Instrumental/Vocal Performance.
