Students in this program write works for the full range of traditional acoustic instruments, from solo works to ones for large orchestra, as well as for various electronic resources, working constantly to refine their own compositional voice under the guidance of the composition faculty. The program offers many courses for advanced study, with recent offerings including seminars focused on computer notation, Max/MSP/Jitter, art song composition, Schenkerian theory, and composition informed by music outside of the classical tradition (including influences from rock, jazz, and non-Western traditions). Students in the program have written works for readings and workshops by the BCCM Symphony Orchestra, the BCCM Wind Symphony, Kronos Quartet, the Friction String Quartet, and many other resident and guest ensembles.

The Bachelor of Music degree is a high-unit professional degree and requires 132 units for graduation. Music units include the core requirements and one option. Students interested in the BM program must successfully complete an audition for entrance to the program. This should be accomplished prior to entrance to the University. Students wishing to consider the BM program after they have enrolled at CSULB may not apply after they have completed more than a maximum of 96 units.

When resources are scarce, difficult choices must be made on how resources are to be divided among competing uses. Economics is a social science that addresses the efficient allocation of scarce resources.

The Department offers a comprehensive program of courses coupled with appropriate thesis projects leading to the Master of Science in Geology. Within geology, students specialize in any of a number of sub-disciplines including environmental geochemistry, hydrogeology, marine geology, petrology, paleontology, petroleum geology, sedimentology, stratigraphy, structural and field geology, geophysics, and paleoclimatology.

Students may include in their studies courses offered by other departments at CSULB. Interested students are encouraged to contact faculty in their intended areas of study and research.

This program requires a selection of fundamental courses in algebra, statistics, and analysis be taken. It is the most flexible program, in which the greatest number of electives may be chosen. Elective upper division mathematics courses are available which meet the needs of students preparing careers in industry and government, secondary teaching, and graduate study. Students who do not wish to complete the requirements for a declared option in applied mathematics or statistics may wish to elect courses in one or both of these areas as part of this degree program.

Students majoring in the B.S. in Mathematics (all options) who would like an enriched academic program that includes a thesis may complete the Honors in the Major program described here.

May also complete General Honors through the University Honors Program, in which case the thesis requirement may be met through the Honors in the Major.

Hospitality Management is offered as a Bachelor of Science degree in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at California State University, Long Beach. It is designed to prepare students with the necessary background and expertise to excel as managers and leaders in the restaurant, foodservice, hotel, and lodging industries. The program provides a broad-based foundation in both academic and professional courses and includes hands-on practical experience.

The Master of Arts in Education, Option in Curriculum and Instruction, Elementary Education (30-33 units) is designed to foster the development of educators who are caring, effective, reflective, and committed to improving their schools. Coursework prepares teachers to apply theoretical insights and research findings to the practical problems they encounter in their work in curriculum and instruction.

The Master of Science in Emergency Services Administration degree program at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) is fully online, and prepares graduates for organizational leadership and senior-level positions across the emergency services sector. The program's high-quality, wide-ranging courses engage students in theory and research that inform the management of disaster risk. Program coursework culminates in projects or theses that directly strengthen students’ organizations and communities.

In recent years, emergency services professions have become extremely competitive, with demands for personnel to further their education to attain promotion and keep up with technical advances. Those in the following fields are well-suited for this program: firefighters, police officers, military personnel, emergency medical services personnel, and disaster response planners within government, business, and industry.

The Religious Studies M.A. at CSULB is the only M.A. in Religious Studies offered in the entire CSU system. That make it the least expensive Religious Studies M.A. in the entire state of California. It is a “stand-alone” M.A. program–one of about fifteen in the U.S. –which means that it is not an afterthought or consolation prize in some other degree program. We are going to give you personal attention that prepares you for the next level. An M.A. from CSULB can do what the gravitational field of Mars can do for a space probe on the way to Pluto. You can use our gravitational field to sling you into orbit for a better graduate program (if you want a Ph.D. or some other advanced degree) or career.

Why is this so? First of all our graduated M.A.s have gone on to good Ph.D. programs–@ Heildelberg, Edinburgh, University of California, etc. You have a chance to polish your writing skills and learn languages that make you more attractive to such schools.Good schools want you to have tackled research and target languages. This means that you will meet people with religious positions that are different from your own and have conversations that you could not have imagined in a parochial program.

Housed in the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) at California State Univeristy Long Beach (CSULB) and graduated its first cohort in 1988, the undergraduate Health Care Administration (BS-HCA) program has been a full certified member of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA) since 1996. Such certification demonstrates program excellence through a process of external peer review in which programs are examined to determine the quality of the curriculum, infrastructure, and outcomes.

The Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration (BS-HCA) curriculum consists of 120 units of course work. The undergraduate program admits freshmen and transfer students with a significant number of community college credits. Interested students must first apply to the CSULB for admission and are encouraged to contact the CHHS advisors for advising before enrolling in courses.
