The BS in Interdisciplinary Sciences is a multidisciplinary program that provides a strong foundation in one area of the sciences and flexibility to add content and skills from other HMCSE STEM programs.  The academic goal of this program is to afford students the opportunity to make connections between ideas and concepts across disciplinary boundaries and to be capable of defining and examining scientific problems from an interdisciplinary perspective.

The BS in Interdisciplinary Sciences is built upon a foundation within the UWF HMCSE STEM disciplines (Biology, Earth & Environmental Sciences, and Computer Science, ) and allows for additional coursework from Chemistry, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, and Physics.

The Zoo Science Specialization is designed for and limited to students who have completed an A.S. in Zoo Animal Technology from Santa Fe College (Gainesville, FL). It provides further study of the field with an emphasis on the biological sciences. The specialization has been designed to prepare students for a wide variety of careers in the animal industry, in such fields as zookeeper, curator, or director or operating one’s own animal industry business. It is not designed as a pre-veterinary medicine program and does not include all of the courses normally required for admission to a college of veterinary medicine.

What You Will Learn

Our MBA program will teach you how to synthesize complex information, develop and deliver professional presentations, integrate advanced ethical reasoning with business decisions and become a skilled business analyst.

Admission to the MBA program does not require an undergraduate business degree; a number of successful MBA graduates started the program with little to no previous business coursework. However, foundational proficiency in the major functional areas of business is required to be successful in the program. These foundational proficiencies can be completed quickly through accelerated courses.

Our MBA program provides both a general view of business and a specialized focus through the development of the MBA e-Portfolio.

With eight Areas of Emphasis from which to choose, the MBA Program prepares graduates for leadership positions in a variety of managerial and organizational settings. An MBA degree with an Area of Emphasis is a 36 semester hour program, while a General MBA is 33 semester hours.

Areas of emphasis include accounting, business analytics, entrepreneurship, hospitality and tourism leadership, human resources management, information security management and supply chain logistics management.

The M.S. in Environmental Science provides advanced research and educational opportunities in the earth and environmental sciences. Departmental areas of concentration include coastal science, paleoclimatology, landscape ecology, geographic information science, aquatic biogeochemistry, and soils science. The program includes both thesis and non-thesis tracks. The non-thesis track provides a foundation for employment in the private and public sectors of the environmental fields. In addition, the thesis track prepares students for advanced study leading to the doctoral degree. Contact the department for information regarding the graduate certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

The B.S. in Mathematics prepares students for graduate study; teaching; service in science, government and industry; and supporting roles in the social, biological, and physical sciences. This program emphasizes mathematics and statistics and provides students with considerable flexibility in choosing electives outside the major. It is recommended that students seek the advice of faculty regarding career opportunities and choice of a suitable minor.

The mission of the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering is to offer undergraduate and graduate programs of excellence in engineering that serve the needs of the West Florida region, the state, and the nation. The goal of these programs is to prepare students for a successful professional career in their respective chosen discipline of study.

The Computer Engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET.  ABET is the recognized accreditor for college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering and technology and is among the most respected

The program’s educational objectives are to ensure:

• Graduates of the program will be successful in the professional practice of engineering or related fields and will advance in their chosen careers.
• Graduates of the program will be successful in pursuing advanced degrees in engineering or related fields

The B.A. in Interdisciplinary Humanities program affords students the opportunity to select one of two specializations: Arts Administration or Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Students should note that courses taken for the chosen discipline may not be used to complete the requirements for additional majors or minors.

Students in Arts Administration will gain a broad understanding of the various administrative functions within any arts organization. These functions include but are not limited to Marketing, Fundraising and Management. The student also receives intensive training in the chosen artistic discipline including Art & Design, Music or Theatre. The program offers a solid foundation for either employment in a professional environment or additional graduate study in Arts Administration.

The B.S. in Computer Science (CS) degree program emphasizes analytical thinking and problem solving involving scientific applications. The degree includes the theoretical foundations of computer science in the study of algorithms, data structures, computer architecture, programming languages, and net-centric computing. Concentration areas include intelligent systems, software engineering, and cybersecurity.

The BSW in Social Work, accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, prepares students to enter beginning professional social work practice.
