The Geography major is housed in the Department of Anthropology and Geography. Through coursework and internship opportunities, majors are provided with a broad background in geographic thinking. The major emphasizes interactions between humans and the environment in an era of rapid global change. Critical study of diverse relationships between space, place, humans, built and natural environments allows students to interpret geographic features, patterns and processes.

The Geography curriculum also concentrates specifically on mountain ecosystems and human-environment interactions. Coursework takes advantage of faculty expertise in these areas of study, some of which are specific to the state of Colorado. Geography faculty use a wide range of research methods, including geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing, spatial modeling, spatial statistics, participatory methods and ethnography to address applied research questions in Colorado, the Rocky Mountains, Patagonia, Southeast Asia, Latin America, Melanesia, and Africa. Our M.S. program offers a range of opportunities in health-focused coursework that allows you to experience science-based, rigorous research first hand. Our graduate students are encouraged to seek out a lab that reflects their interests, where they can participate in hands on research in many disciplines of study, including health span, prevention and treatment of metabolic disorders, researching neuromuscular disease and disability, investigating cancer recurrence and engaging with the physical and mental health of active duty military and first responders. Students also have the opportunity to engage in outreach programs, work directly with undergraduates in both lab and classroom settings, and are a vital part of the HES academic ecosystem.

When you major in Art (B.A.), you’ll take your passions to new levels of creativity and expression. You’ll start with a foundational year, where you’ll get exposure to every medium from drawing to metalsmithing to ceramics to digital art. In the B.A. program, you’ll become adept at studio arts, and can focus on history or integrated visual studies, which combines art coursework with coursework from another discipline.

Integrated Visual Studies - Concentration
The Integrated Visual Studies concentration is an ideal program for students to develop skills as makers and thinkers. By making work and interpreting images from visual art, photography, film, television, and commercial imagery, students learn to analyze visual communication from a variety of aesthetic, theoretical, scientific, economic, sociological and historical viewpoints. Students take a relatively equal ratio of studio and academic classes that foster critical awareness of how society is reflected and produced through visual means in the 21st century. The Integrated Visual Studies concentration gives students the flexibility to pursue interdisciplinary academic interests in combination with explorations of the conceptual and technical aspects of art making within a studio practice.

Organization and Innovation Management - Concentration
No matter the industry, no matter the business, managers play a key role in bringing diverse stakeholders and team members together to achieve common goals. From negotiating deadlines and budgets to overseeing projects and workgroups, management skills are integral to a variety of career paths.

The organization and innovation management concentration in the CSU College of Business refines your natural leadership skills. Through coursework taught by knowledgeable and engaging faculty, you’ll learn the skills you need to innovate, lead others and make informed and ethical decisions that advance both short- and long-term efforts.

Computer science is about creating innovative solutions to complex, real-world problems. Students in this major study step-by-step computational methods for solving problems by encoding, storing, tracking and transforming information. Computer science is much broader than just programming. It is informed by the theory and architecture of computing devices, and the tools and practices used to design and implement software.

The computer science major at CSU provides students a broad background in the field while simultaneously allowing students to focus on specific areas. In addition to a general computer science degree with the option for a minor in a field of their choice, we offer the following concentrations:

The department offers a wide range of specialized senior-level courses where students can explore in depth different areas of computer science including: big data, computer networks, distributed systems, artificial intelligence, machine learning, computational biology / bioinformatics, human-computer interaction, graphics, database systems, compilers, parallel programming, object oriented design, and advanced topics in algorithms and theory of computer science.

This interdisciplinary program examines the cultural and social construction of gender, explores the history, experiences, and contributions of women to society, and studies the influences of gender on the lives of women and men. Looking at the world through this lens allows us to more directly and effectively address issues of social justice and social change. By studying gender relations, students learn skills that work toward dismantling gender-based inequality and promote gender equity in various arenas of social life.

The Hospitality Management major combines courses in foodservice, lodging, event planning, nutrition, and business to provide students with a strong skill set for entry into hospitality management professions. Elective credits allow students to take courses in areas of interest to enhance their education. The curriculum has a strong emphasis on management skills required for success in the hospitality industry.

The Hospitality Management program maintains strong ties with the foodservice, lodging, and event planning industries locally, state-wide, and nationally to connect graduates with a wide variety of employment opportunities in the expanding commercial and non-commercial segments of hospitality management. The hospitality industry is the second largest employer in Colorado and the United States. The department oversees internships in the industry and aids in job placement upon graduation.

The Department of Philosophy has established scholars specializing in many areas of philosophy, including  applied ethics, particularly animal ethics, environmental ethics, and bioethics; comparative and non-Western philosophy; ethical theory; history of philosophy; metaphysics; aesthetics; and epistemology.

The Department of Clinical Services offers a number of research opportunities for graduate students in the major Academic Centers.  Academic Centers include the Animal Heart Center, Center for Immune and Regenerative Medicine, Center for Pain Management, Animal Population Health Institute, Orthopaedic Research Center, Animal Cancer Center, Integrated Livestock Management, and the Center for Companion Animal Studies.

The Master of Science in clinical sciences offers two options for prospective students in a variety of research areas:

• Track 1: Those who enroll in the non-thesis clinical option are typically post-D.V.M. students also pursuing residency training programs.
• Track 2: Students who enroll in the traditional thesis-based research program may not have a D.V.M. and work under the support of a faculty member’s lab.
