The Wonsook Kim School of Art offers a comprehensive list of sequence options for a student interested in Studio Arts. The following are offered as areas of specialization: Ceramics, Drawing, Expanded Media, Glass, Printmaking, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Video, and Wood / Metal Design.

Following a first year foundations curriculum, students can choose a sequence within an individual studio. Within each sequence, faculty are actively engaged in introducing students to various technical skills and ideas specific to that discipline. The cohesive sequencing of courses within each studio area allows the student to build skills and knowledge towards a highly sophisticated level of work in that field of exploration.

Students pursuing the Master of Music in Conducting are given extensive podium time and are mentored by dedicated and active conducting faculty. Upon graduation students are prepared to:

• Seek their doctoral degree
• Conduct school, church or community ensembles
• Conduct at a community college or university

The curriculum includes:

• Applied conducting
• Analysis for conductors
• Research
• Practicum in conducting
• Electives chosen from courses like non-degree recitals, music technology, music history, music theory, music education, music therapy, music business, jazz studies, ensembles, and non-music courses

Mathematics
The Mathematics sequence in the Mathematics major first provides students with a strong foundation in Mathematics and then gives students the flexibility to explore various aspects of the discipline.

There is also the flexibility within the Mathematics major for a student to pursue a minor in a related field of study. Such a program can prepare students for jobs in industry and government as well as prepare students for graduate study in Mathematics.

Social Work

Professionals provide assistance and resources to the most vulnerable individuals and families in our communities. They tackle problems people face in their everyday lives, such as violence, mental illness, drug abuse, racism, and poverty.

Once you start your career, you will be able to choose the work environment that excites you. Social workers practice in a variety of settings including schools, nursing homes, government agencies, and many more.

The specialist program in School Psychology is approved by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), the Council for Accreditation of Teacher Educator Preparation (CAEP), and the Illinois State Board of Education. We provide our students with comprehensive curriculum, high quality training, and properly supervised field experiences that are consistent with NASP Standards for Graduate Preparation of School Psychologists (2010). The mission of the specialist program, which emphasizes the scientist-practitioner model of training, is to develop entry-level competencies in our graduates so they can function as school psychologists in public and private schools. The specialist degree can be completed in three years with full time enrollment on campus for two years and a 9-month internship.

FDM courses include Textiles, Fashion Trend and Industry Analysis, Advanced Textiles, Clothing and Behavior, Economics of Fashion, Apparel Product Development, Apparel Product Analysis, and Fashion Promotion. Within the FDM program, you can select from two different emphasis options:

• The Fashion Merchandising option which includes additional courses in retail buying
• The Fashion Design and Product Development option which includes additional courses in draping and flat pattern making

As an FDM student, you'll also have the opportunity to participate in study tours both inside and outside the United States. Students have visited corporate offices and manufacturers from New York City to California, as well as in Europe and Asia.

Cybersecurity
Cybersecurity professionals protect data in computers and networks from crimes such as hacking and data theft.

Illinois State’s Cybersecurity major focuses on security basics, cryptography, ethical hacking, security defenses, and forensics. It covers current tools and techniques, and managing security risks.

To be successful in these areas, you'll get a background in programming and networking as well as basic knowledge of computer hardware and systems software.

Creative Technologies
The Master of Science in Creative Technologies is a 39-hour interdisciplinary program in the Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts that emphasizes theory, design, and practice in the application of computer technology to traditional art, music, and theatre disciplines with an emphasis on interactive media, sound design, digital music, and computer coding for arts applications.

The program provides critical training and experiences that prepare graduates for careers in digital and interactive media production including: front-end web development; video production; sound design for live performance, broadcast, and multimedia; digital music composition and production; and emerging arts disciplines where basic knowledge of coding is required. Graduates work for employers of all types including small businesses, government agencies, and corporations; and some are self-employed entrepreneurs.

The program is appropriate for students who have training in the arts, experience working with digital and interactive communication tools, or computer science with experience in the arts and interactive media. Many students have established careers in related fields and wish to enhance their knowledge of new technical tools and creative processes.

The Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management sequence offers a unique learning experience to students who aspire to start businesses or obtain employment in growth-oriented small businesses. The program will help students identify career options in small business, expand their knowledge of entrepreneurship, and develop venture management skills and techniques.
