The Master of Public Health (MPH) with a concentration in Health Care Organization and Policy is designed for individuals who are planning on management-focused careers in public health. Perhaps you aspire to be the executive director of a non-profit charitable organization or a senior-level manager in a health department or federal agency. Perhaps you are a physician, nurse, pharmacist, or other clinician who wants to move from direct patient care into a supervisory position with a broad focus on the health of a community.

Students in this program are introduced to the public health system and the fundamental skills necessary for practice in the public health sector and managing health care organizations. Required coursework includes basic management disciplines and selected content in economics, finance, marketing, law, and health insurance.

The graduate history program provides students an opportunity to work closely with faculty who are active research scholars in a wide variety of fields, covering periods ranging from classical antiquity to post-war Europe, and geographic specializations including the United States, Asia, Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East.

Students completing the M.A. degree receive a solid grounding in research methods, historical writing, and the scholarly literature in their chosen area of concentration. Our students are a diverse group hailing from throughout Alabama, across the country, and around the world, who go on to pursue careers as teachers at the secondary and post-secondary levels, museum workers, historic preservationists, lawyers, journalists, and knowledge workers in a variety of other professions in which rigorous thinking, meticulous research skills, and good writing are in demand.

You have an interest in biomedical health sciences, but you want to leave your options open for your future. With this degree, you will have an opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills that can help you launch a career in research science, scientific policy, science communication, education, or biomedical sales—or to gain more experience in preparation for professional schools.

You have plenty of choices in the program. Choose the thesis or non-thesis options, which require different amounts of laboratory and research training. Take elective courses to explore different biomedical science disciplines. Add a concentration designation to your transcript. You can even enroll in professional development courses in teaching, writing, scientific communication, and other topics. No matter what you choose, you can benefit from a core curriculum that includes courses in Molecular and Cell Biology, Biochemistry, General Human Physiology, Critical Thinking and Scientific Integrity, and Biostatistics.

In finance, we'll teach you how to address an age-old problem: How do you make more money and grow your business? With your BS, we'll train you to add value to all sorts of businesses, including multinational banks, investment firms, and other companies in every industry.

But before you can build that wealth, you need the educational foundation required to fuel your success. That's why our program begins with an exploration of financial planning, investing, valuation, risk management and more. After your core courses, we'll help you choose a track that best fits your career goals. Not to mention, our award-winning, student-managed investment fund, the UAB Green and Gold Fund, will give you real-world experience. Best of all, everything's available both on campus and online.

The UAB Department of Chemistry provides students with the education and practical experience they need to participate in new scientific frontiers. From our unique peer learning and teaching program to our world-class faculty and state-of-the-art research facilities, UAB Chemistry advances the boundaries of chemical scholarship and discoveries.

Chemistry connects the basic sciences with all of the applied sciences, including medicine and engineering. The foundations of the world’s economy in the next generation, including advanced materials, fuels, energy, nanomaterials, medicines, sensors, biotechnology, and genomics, will all have chemistry at their core. As a result, a degree in chemistry opens the door to a wide variety of careers, such as medicine, pharmacy, health professions, forensics, and research. Electrical Engineering
If electric currents, self-driving cars, and the latest smartphone apps get you amped, you should consider a degree in electrical and computer engineering. This degree can help you pursue a career in electric power, aerospace, computer engineering, consulting, defense, or the environment.

How do we do it? First, we'll hardwire you with a strong foundation of electrical engineering fundamentals. Your courses will cover topics such as analog and digital electronics, microprocessor applications, biomedical instrumentation, digital computer systems, software systems, electric utility power systems, digital control, industrial electronics, and machinery control. Then, through your capstone design experience, we'll plug you in with a team so you can prove your ability to design, develop, and test real solutions to engineering problems. You'll even be able to earn a teaching certification in mathematics through UABTeach and apply your STEM knowledge in the classroom.

The goals of the ABET-accredited B.S. in Electrical Engineering are to prepare graduates for the following:

Earning a Master of Science in Genetic Counseling will help you be prepared for the high demand, rapidly evolving field of genomic medicine. A combination of classroom and clinical experiences in pediatric, prenatal, cancer, and other specialties teach you to work with patients and families who are learning about and coping with the risk genetic disease may have for themselves and their relatives.

Genetic counseling is a versatile degree that allows you to also work with companies, on research teams, and with patient advocacy groups. Community Health and Human Services
A healthy community doesn't just happen—it takes education, coaching, program development, and, most important, people who care to make a difference. At UAB, you'll gain a full understanding of the human body and prepare for a career helping others live healthy lives.

As you begin the program, we'll sit down with you to help you determine your career goals. Based on those goals, you'll choose a concentration of either community health or human services. In community health, you'll learn about policies, programs, anatomy, and nutrition for the well-being of both individuals and communities. If you choose human services, which is offered both online and on campus, we'll cover topics such as case management, public policy, and intervention.

Entrepreneurship
Many of the world’s leading companies began as student startups. Could one of your big ideas be next? At UAB, we can teach you how to turn your idea into a business, preparing you to be an entrepreneur who adapts to change, solves problems, and can thrive in all sorts of environments.

You see, before you have a big idea, you have to find the right problem to solve. Our curriculum is designed to show you how to fall in love with a problem so that you can find the right solution. Then we want you to take that solution and turn it into a viable business. To do this, you’ll take required courses like The Entrepreneurial Mindset, Entrepreneurial Strategy and Operations, and The Entrepreneurial Engagement Seminar, along with core business classes that cover the basics of marketing, finance, management, and more. You’ll even take Public Speaking to help you develop the skills to deliver that perfect pitch. We also want your education to be full of hands-on experience. Because how else will you really learn how to launch a business? You can pursue an internship with a local start-up, join a team of students exploring business ventures or collaborating on new ideas in one of UAB’s extracurricular programs, or complete a directed study in entrepreneurship.

Digital Forensics
As a digital forensics professional, you'll examine digital evidence and protect computer systems from hackers and malware. With threats continuing to mount, digital forensics experts are in high demand at companies that need cybersecurity. Careers are available in computer science, criminal justice, information systems, information technology, or law.

But catching cyber criminals means you have to think like them—and then outsmart them. So we're going to teach you the programming knowledge and tools you need to do just that. We're also going to teach you about legal evidence-gathering, investigation processes, and more. Best of all, because our criminal justice program is the only one in Alabama that requires an internship, you'll have real-world experience on your resume when it's time to find a job.
