As a journalist, you'll be at the forefront of a rapidly changing world that relies on a news cycle that runs 24/7. Journalism teaches the ins and outs of researching and reporting the news. The Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with an emphasis in Broadcast Journalism focuses on reporting the news for radio, television and multimedia outlets. The program of study touches on important aspects of journalism such as law and ethics before diving into hands-on learning. Broadcast majors write, report, fact-check, shoot, produce and edit hard-news features and in-depth stories for broadcast and the web, culminating in quality news reports that can be included on reels to share with prospective employers. Electives in digital media, such as drone videography or mobile app development, can further prepare students for this ever-evolving field. A second major or a minor in a specialized field, such as political science, religion or Middle Eastern studies, is required.

Teaching students how to conceptualize and manage sustainable and responsible real estate development is a critical objective of the Sustainable Real Estate Development Emphasis of the Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Built Environments program. Students interact with practitioners in the field through hands-on experiences, guest lectures, internships and real-life projects. The conservatory-style program for the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Production with a Professional Actors Training Program emphasis prepares students to embark on a career as a working actor. Small class sizes allow faculty to focus individualized attention on students, encouraging collaboration and experimentation. Classes include eight semesters of Stanislavsky-based acting training; four semesters of voice and movement; stage combat classes; audition technique courses; screen acting classes; and professional development and business acumen that culminate in a showcase for leading industry professionals in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and major regional markets.

Armed with an understanding of the soil-plant relationship, discover plant systems that maximize production, conserve resources and minimize environmental damage. The Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Plant Systems has four tracks; students in the Agronomy track expand their knowledge of crop production. Plants are the foundation of biodiversity, global climate and the sustainability of the planet. As such, increased crop yields, reduced use of land and improved efficiency are key to healthy ecosystems and sustained human life. This interdisciplinary degree draws on coursework from basic and applied plant and soil science and features small classes and hands-on training. Students focus on developing low water use and disease-resistant plants that maximize crop yield and plant health in fields where land size constrains production.

Study in the nation's first academic systems engineering department, where you'll learn about the design, modeling and analysis of technological systems used for everything from health care to homeland security. Systems engineers are experts in the interaction of machines, people, materials, energy, software and hardware. Students earning the Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering do projects and conduct research in supply chain management, smart manufacturing and transportation, and autonomous surveillance, for example. A major in Art History offers students a critical view of the role of art in culture and politics from prehistory to the modern era. Coursework offers comprehensive studies in the history of art through rigorous visual analysis, engagement with current scholarship and the application of various methodological approaches. Students gain wide knowledge of the history of art through introductory courses and then take specialty courses in areas including early modern Europe, the history of photography, Latin America, modern and contemporary, among others. In this Bachelor of Arts major, students gain deep knowledge of society's origins, its functions and its problems, focusing on relations among people, groups, organizations and cultures. Many students use a Sociology major as the base for careers in law, health or social services, while others employ it as a launch pad for graduate work as a professional sociologist in research organizations or educational institutions.

In the Bachelor of Arts in East Asian Studies program, students select from one of two focuses in language or culture. The Chinese Language Intensive focus provides instruction on three levels, from beginning to advanced, plus specialized instruction in advanced reading, writing and conversation. Students learn to communicate effectively and read proficiently.  The department offers a summer study abroad program in Hangzhou, where students learn about China's dynamic Buddhist tea culture while staying in a monastery connected to the Hangzhou Buddhist Academy.
